  2. more litres of fuel ................ for the fire ......... the 2 main ag operators at Wondai are piston powered - one an agwagon (6 cylinder) the other a brave (de-rated 8 cylinder ?) I've talked to both and neither are clowns (you'll have to assume I am not one also) wondai aviaition seems annoyed at what an ag operator did - its probable that the ag operator may also have been annoyed (only guessing) at what the wondai operator may have done (or said, or inferred, oe implied etc) ? both have equal rights to the strip - so i'm sure its got to be a very small storm in a very, very little tea cup
  3. It’s not hard to notice that airline staff has this morbid, dreary fascination for that person (s) who want to smoke a cigarette on board THEIR flight. You’d have to be a simple, single celled creature (they also do use air travel (………..and federal government chauffeured cars)) …………….. not to realise that you can’t smoke in the terminal and likewise in the plane ? With monotony the announcement is always – ‘against civil aviation safety regulation – no smoking in the aircraft – no smoking in the toilet – smoke detector in toilet’ My god a smoke detector in the toilet ! ………….. you just feel like shouting out down the aisle – ‘blast, when did they put a smoke detector in the bloody toilet !’ I guess the airlines have to cater for lowest common denominator ……….. or do they think the gene pool in the back can’t ‘cut it’ with the gene pool in the front I reckon the paternalistic, patronising smoking messages should be dropped or cut back ……………………… there ………… feeling better now JM
  4. Tomo Our loan organisation stated that all finance compoanies are reluctant to loan against anyhing that 'floats, farts ot flies' IF you can get past that criteria - by some other positive - then that's good To me the advice regarding taxation is good advice - if you can derive an income from the plane (toolbox in the back and a D12 engine block in the front) then that wil also help ? jm
  5. Confucius say: ‘If there was no money involved – it would not be so nearly complicated (or time consuming)’
  6. yep Dazza - keep that non smoking going :) I like the way John Laws answers ...................... how did you quit smoking ? ' Simple ........... just stop putting them in your mouth and sucking on the ends of them' A simple philosophy and reminder ........ if you get the urge to smoke them cigarettes :( JM
  7. I'm not much chop at web links but the above web refernce also has an excellent engine additive JM
  8. I'd say the cocktail of alcohol and stimulants made the pilot irrational It was a stupid thing he did - under the circumstances to say he was stupid seems tough Probably was a highly educated person - like all us pilots ?
  9. no avatar because its not a perfect world jm
  10. I got the old weight and balance letter - RAA wanted the manufacturers calculation I scanned that, also the C of A for good measure - emailed to RAA ...................... waited < than a day - cleared to fly - good efficient service. Better your licensor saying something than ....................... nothing No worries - its a mistake on some ones part - no big deal - I want that paperwork in order ....................... if say I had to validate a claim
  11. Nevertheless its still good we can talk about this incident - the subject IS sensitive ........................... judging by all the posts and views on the subject. Talking and reading about such things must be helpful ......... and be a learning process in itself Any thing relevant we say will no doubt be in the ATSB report - otherwise the report may / could be deficient (and no doubt ............................. all that will be discussed again in this forum .................... with the final report) I'd like to ask - 'judging by the photo of the ferris wheel I'd give it the ferris wheel a 10000 radius and say a 20000 diameter - that equates to about say a Maximum 60 - 70 feet. In relation to the the strip - was the ferris wheel on high or low ground ?' Have not heard this fact discussed JM
  12. put a couple of extra on or take some merlons off - if it helps :)

  15. great photo's - particularly the human fly on the low flying DC8 fueslage (never seen that) that low flying is a no no ................................. but there certainly is a fasination about it ! JM
  16. good summary and interesting view point facthunter your reference 'to the bottle' .................... its probably hard to generalise, but - is 'the bottle' because of the danger (stress) or because of the day to day chore (repetition)? do you think might not be an answerable question I think I can see a bit of of that lifestyle in ag pilots (the danger or chore and 'the bottle'........................ I've never actually thought about)
  17. Interesting idea to index aircraft types and their peculiarities The human peculiarities of the pilots prbably can have a lot to do with it - how do we incorporate that it the index system ! On that subject - when you read the accident reports in the magazine its good to see pilot hours and weather conditions - I'd also like to see AGE (male or female does n't matter) - not that age has a direct bearing on an accidient ........................ but it does complete a picture JM
  18. Good one flyfulcan - very unique Great to hear about engine and aircatft sats when you get some ............................... time ? The design looks like it's going to 'whistle !' when on the ove in the air JM
  19. ROTAX engines and fuel pumps - series and parallel – it has been discussed before but I don’t see my answer On a ’24’ registered aircraft you have to keep things the way the factory does it – no modification I know different makes of ultralights that have an electric pump plus the mechanical pump (engine driven) that are all plumbed in series. The aircraft I am familiar with then has excess fuel returning to the fuel tank If the electric pump failed it will fail in the open position (no written guarantee can be found for this statement). If the mechanical pump fails - I am told that fuel will still be delivered through an internal by-pass Also, I am told that if plumbed in parallel the fuel is unregulated and could cause over pressuring and possible flooding. Also, in series during high demand situations with the electric boost pump on – the required head of pressure is maintained thus preventing cavitation and possible vapour locks Question is – do fuel pumps plumbed in series – an electric boost pump then the mechanical pump offer redundancy – if either pump fails – will the other pump do the job. I’d like to be assured that plumbed in series is the correct way Thanks JM
  20. I agree ...................... philosophical facthunter Money courses thru us all .............. even the fee man, license man, levy man, tax man and the GST man attaches to us - for the journey

Quiet low crap and poor viz in smoke haze - friday it was a better ceiling and viz started improving past Moura on way home A drop of rain might wash the skies JM
  24. Morning all They say that if you loose your car licence - DUI - ................................... then you use boat license (if you have one) and vicki versa (guess thats true ??) If you lose your car license ................................. because of excessive alcohol (not planning to) - i.e; DUI - do you loose your RAA pilots licence ? Would you loose your GA pilots license ? JM
  25. yes - thats the summary ............................................................... lifes a sexually transmitted terminal disease, and if you have death insurance ............................. you ? will get the payout - that is after the insurer checks the fine print JM
