  1. yep - australians are welcome to any airfield in NZ - the language barrier is not that difficult to overcome ...................... the people are friendly and the sheep are ............... I was there 2 months ? ago - Timaru - about 150 kms south of Christchurch - and hired a tomohawk (with instructor) and flew north - about 50 kms to some island strip (island on a river). very interesting airfield - some pics attached. NZ seems a small place in comparison to Australia - so its a visual feast when flying Hire rate was about $ 190 / hour NZ NZ awaits but try and not strangle the vowels when talking JM
  2. http://www.sbs.com.au/dateline/story/watch/id/601201/n/A-Wing-and-a-Prayer Don't know if this has been discussed on the forum................. but if you look at the above link there was a great documentary on fueslage manufacture (sorry - don't how to do the direct link thingy) In short the parts are supposed to be computor machine cut ......................... but a subcontractor of the 'discussed part' seems to be able to a better job with a template ....................... scribe the template ........................ machine cut and finish plus hand drill the template ................ with asscociated problems of assembly at the boeing plant Also 3 accidents - fueslage failures have occured and could be related An almost unbelievable sequence of events JM
  3. Yep .................... I'd be going for professional advise - per the previous posts - a town planning consultant Town planning is a tangled web of planning jargon and mountains of legislation I'm assuming all planning legislation has the same skeleton irrespective of what state you live in - so ........... I'd also go and see the relevant Council town planning department and get some feed back - the developer may have a consultant town planner, but equally the Council town planning department also represents all persons in the shire - yourself as a ratepayer and you as a user of the airport - you should be able to glean some information and preliminary advice from them JM
  4. they coupled p51's and he 111's - any others ..........................................................................out there ? ........................................... mr & mrs piper had one too - there's 3 photo's in the article - note single piper with engine on back of fueslage jm
  5. aaaaahhhhhh the human race just remember if it wasn't for electrcity we'd all be watching television in the dark when I said Maj Millard should be banned from all comment about Jab engines ! - there was an 'apostrophe' - think that's how you spell it - that little line and dot means a lot ! (thats another line with a dot) Maj - you keep on keeping on - there's lot out there that hang on to all you say - me included (plus all the other wise owls who impart what they know) as for others - flying off the handle - w'ell ............................... we all do it ! (thats another line with a dot) good website and good freedom of speech (no law against 'free speech yet' !) JM
  6. I think Maj Millard should be banned from all comment up Jab engines ! ................ nevertheless Heon - or for that matter does anyone else ...... think a Jab engine will ever be as good as a Rotax engine ? JM
  7. Jabiru (not a new version) at Capella, Queensland which is Rotax 912 powered - it's hangared at the Capella town strip Seen it there about 3 months ago - and no doubt still there
  8. touchy subject I'm with you Spin - its probably the same if all the 'quiltweaver' clubs (or whatever it's called) invited males to join and do needlepoint - I can't imagine there would be a ............... rush I'd guess males first flew because females could n't show their bloomers I don't see any discrimination when it comes to female flyers (i'm talking flying clubs - not commercial) - in fact feamles are always made welcome - ther just ain't many of them - to suggest something else has got to be the start of a 'persecution complex' How to encourage more female flyers ? - we males have to infiltrate the 'quiltweaver' clubs Your instructions ............................... dates, places and Church associations will be posted to you shortly JM
  9. Here is an interesting snapshot of employee and employer - I reckon most will see both sides of the fence - Fieldair ag site I can see the employers point of view - expensive machinery and twisted aluminium The pilot has now been cloned with appropriate DNA and should be useful in 18 years (think thats CPL age) JM Agricultural Pilots, Cropdusters Pty LtdAll types of Ag applications, various locations throughout Australia as required Exp: Experienced Ag Pilots that can actually fly, not just have a piece of paper that says they can - Tail dragger experience essential, recent application experience preferred Apply To: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Seeking pilots with Ag experience. NO egos. NO Cowboys, NO throttle bashers, NO know it alls, NO Nutcases, NO Freeloaders, NO nasty types, NO whingers, NO slackers, NO liars, NO hidden agendas. NO opportunists. Must be team players, of sober habits, honest in all respects, professional in all regards, able to give, take and carry out instructions, be accountable, reliable and responsible, able to keep good records, able to clearly communicate on various levels. Must understand this is not a get rich industry, demand can be unpredictable, so flexibility is necessary. Must understand the aircraft is not a penis extension, it is their office in which they risk their lives daily and that correct and careful daily inspection, maintenance and operation of the aircraft helps keeps them alive. All aspects of safety and daily care of the aircraft and equipment must be a primary concern. The promotion of Best Practice over Common Practice is expected at all times. I have had my share of bullartists, con men, weirdos and badly trained monkeys. I want a real pilot who can work within Company Policies. Someone that does not have to be watched over to ensure they are doing the right thing. If you think youre the kind of person Im looking for I would appreciate you emailing your resume. 10. Yep .... thanks Heon Fight any fight later Actually a 'no brainer' is probably good fertile ground for the justice and legal professions (including an insurance company) - still I suppose I could argue a potential complete plane is better than a trying to prevent the creation of a twisted aluminium ball thanks JM
  11. Thanks Heon Its a bit of an ambiguous conversation - probably I'm causing it. Regarding the plane I refer to - the aircraft manufacture fitted the hoses - I presume. I suspect the aircraft manufacturer will not comment re replacement of hoses. Therefore the conclusion is - we must be talking about a 'Rotax system' and I'll replace them per Rotax Assuming that fits with a '24' registered LSA aircraft ? If it doesn't - well then there's no sensible answer - so they WILL be replaced anyway ??????????????????? thanks JM
  12. Good general advice ................. once again ! HEON - who is the 'maker' - the aircraft manufacturer or Rotax - I'm going to put my money on Rotax I'll replace diligently per Rotax - oil tank and hoses - same position Thanks JM
  13. Howdy With a 24 registered aircraft and with a 5 year Rotax 912 installed it seems a good idea to at least think about replacing them hoses The catch is that the manufacturer of the plane (does not really matter which one) installed them (engine oil and fuel hoses) so you need to do it their way ? I personally don't reckon that the plane maufacturer gives 2 hoots what you do - after all its a Rotax operating system (s) The question is - I believe the hoses should be ripped off - new hoses installed and a suitable clamping system used - is this what we do in the end ............ ? (the hose has n't got a brain so it does not what clamp is being used - same goes for the clamp) As far as I am concerned its an inert bit of hose - so hoses and hose clamps - as per say a 'Sportsstar' installation should do ( ....... and yes I know - 24 registered - you must do what the plane maufucaturer did) Any thoughts please - thanks JM
  14. ace of aces in a P38 ? not a 109, 190 or a 262 ? jm

  16. Bravoflyer - If you look under aircraft - notices - tecnam - you will see airworthy notices relating to some Tecnams - wing spar stuff The Golf is mandatory and other types are recommended - looks like you have to buy a kit and chop some holes into the wing - for inspection points If you find out what issue has arisen please post the information - or the cost of the kits - let me know as I have one of those Bravos - good wing as far as I know JM
  17. Cresco ozzie yep - good planes them green ones always wanted to know the operating cost of a cresco - say 5 or 9 parachutes - how much do you have to pay ? I guess 200 ltrs per hour in climb ? JM
  18. rotax fuel and oil house photo's should be attached this time ?
  19. Oh wise ones ........................ help ! In a '24' registered Tecnam the fuel and oil are crimped - hopefully photo's are attached Oil lines have straight couplings and fuel has + and T junctions Apart from Rotax (they say they can't help) and Tecnam (they could help but might take some time) - has any one tackled replacing the hoses and obtaining fittings or a system to do the job If so ............................ where, what, how, who thanks JM
  20. differences Also another fundamental difference is that d comes after c - alphabetically
  21. For the sake of Tecnam chatter: Bravo users - fuel vent outlets are flush - in the wingtips - ever noticed that when you park on uneven ground (wing lower than the other) with full tanks - you can loose a good percentage of fuel (up to 30 - 40%) - it vents / drains quiet easily I'd guess using a bung or plug or such like would probably be stupid (damage or not removing it and then flying away - probably than, fuel starvation ?) My solution has always been don't fill it to the gunnells unless lots of fuel needed Any thoughts on that one ? JM
  22. more tea vicar I agree - any gibberish is better than none at all On the subject of what, how, when a 'call' is made - what is the correct way (do you think)to say, what was said - incorrectly ??????????????????????? thanks JM
  23. safety What about 1/2 bottle VSOP of Conac and 2 naked stewardesses ?
  24. Might be able to figure this out - but might as well ask the participants I got instructions (as no doubt we all did) and was given a new look web site - well that new look has disappeared and I am back to this old look web site (nothing wrong with that) Trouble is this one looks like its on the fizzle - where is the section AD's ? - I haven't seen a 'for sale' item in some time - can't find these either I'm lost - but not overly bothered about it Any direction ................... would be good ?????????? thanks JM
