  1. Sitting down the back of a plane as a Passenger I can generally tell when the Landing is not going to be good without looking at ANY instrument IF you have a bit of a view out of any window. with a forward aspect. Nev
  2. You have to get the revs exactly right with any of that low to high range stuff. Trouble is you need 2 hands and the clutch foot. Nev
  3. What are you going to do in your SPARE time? Nev
  4. Weather no one should have to fly in. Nev
  5. Use the LEAST amount of paint possible. Dust and insect free area. I prefer ACRYLIC Lacquer. Easy to repair.. Light colours (Cooler and more visible). Use a thin etch primer on metal surfaces. Tubes in white matt. (See cracks easier.). If the Air s high humidity use heat lights to prevent blooming. Nev
  6. YOU and it's a joke. Nev
  7. He's not filling it right up. It may have a restricted crankcase volume which makes the "AIR" in the crankcase move around excessively and tend to POOL OIL a bit somewhere.. Check if there's excessive BLOWBY at the breather. That should be unlikely with The servicing it's had. NEXT go back to the inlet valve guide running clearance. Thats where the suction originates. Nev
  8. I've told you a MILLION times to stop exaggerating. Nev
  9. Just pull "Funny" faces all the time and as a bonus the other Pedestrians will give you a wide Berth. Nev
  10. To be able to do a circuit without one is desirable. Naturally you err on the safe side by being a little fast if there's any doubt. At West Maitland the Mud wasps were pretty good at blocking the Pitots in record time.. Nev
  11. U/Ls should be "head outside the cockpit" planes Why have a mini airliner cockpit when that is not the environment you fly in. Basic pilotage to a good standard is what you want . Anything else can come later IF you want it. Nev
  12. IF you get into that situation turn off everything electrical you don't need and the radio will go for longer. Check charging is taking place on the GROUND . If you've had a difficult start, the battery will be already well depleted . Nev
  13. Some of my mates used to use a mobile phone to contact the tower. With most of those alternators, with a flat battery, they will not self excite. Nev
  14. Thanks John. Nev
  15. I was with them for MANY years but they seem to implode now and again.. I'd suggest RAAus is still needed. .Nev
  16. He's the misfit that cops all the $#!t but still somehow manages to hang in there. Hence My choice of avatar. Nev
  17. That would be my Powerplant of choice because it's PROVEN to be a Practical thing. Nev
  18. In a group I see regularly I learn Today it seems Temora is going defunct for a similar reason. They have had to move away from VH EXP for Warbirds. Nev
  19. I'd reckon you'd be able to get a house cheap there, the rate people get knocked off... Nev
  20. Oils for 4 strokes contain friction modifiers that will short out Plug insulators internally.. Just use conventional plugs and save your money. I'd check the Inlet valve guide fit on the valve stem. At idle the suction is greatest in the inlet ports. The bleed may reduce the effect of the suction but not enough to stop excess oil getting there. Nev
  21. Do GA PPL or U/L pilots know about icing? To me it's obvious that at the height he reached the Plane was probably covered in it and was going no place but down. Most non IFR experienced pilots wouldn't have got as far as he did. Nev
  22. It was doing long approaches at idle. Plenty of motors don't like that. Pistons get loose. Inlet valve guide fit has to be good and can be .001" if the finish is good and parallel. The exhaust needs more and could also pass oil on a glide. Yes oil (and air can go back in if the flange leaks.) When power is on, some of the gas goes UP the exhaust guide and contaminates the rocker box. EXCESS oil can lower the Octane and cause detonation. Nev
  23. Keep your very) amateur Psychology to yourself Brendan . I've Put a lot of effort into those Posts on your behalf. . Nev
  24. You do them anyhow in a slow and draggy plane 500 ft. and I said MIGHT. under certain circumstances . Nev.
