  1. We USED the white Plastic ones all the time. Mine even warped from the heat generated. Nev
  2. You're correct, but you are not exactly just sitting there twiddling your thumbs at the time. Natures forces render Man's Puny machinery , Insignificant. Nev
  3. The standard is not that good, so any improvements would be welcome and benefit us all. Nev
  4. Nice understanding of Levers. Rather than fiddle with fuel levels I'd recommend a trim tab on the back of one of the ailerons, that you can bend to get the required result UP makes the aileron go DOWN which makes the wing come UP. Nev
  5. The older nickel plated ICAN brass ones came out long before I was flying. Most instructors were ex military AP 1732 A manual and we all did the same thing without much questioning. We called the Plastic one the Prayer wheel. I'd still have the OLD Brass one somewhere. Nev
  6. It's nice to be near a road if you have to outland. It's easier to make the Headlines landing on a road , but it also has it's own hazards to assess as well besides that. INTO wind is important. IF fuel is low, land before it runs out. Having the engine still running gives you a better chance of getting it down EXACTLY where you want it to end up with a few more options than when you are gliding.. Nev
  7. I really work on the hope they will do things better and WE should not prejudge everything before it happens. The more you get around, in the aviation game, you will find some monumental Faux Pas and inconsistencies and even '"Personal" attitudes against People they CASA found troublesome.. I worked as an official "Pilot's Friend" at many Incident enquiries where I was pretty effective at making sure the other side of the story was considered and people kept their jobs. Pretty full on at times as the pilot group are often ALL too ready to assume the worst about one of their Compatriots. Nev
  8. Who knows where the CofG point of their engine is. It's essential when you calculate it's moment. Same with pilot's and Pax weights When It's all together you should Have a Basic wt and moment (index)on your loadsheet where you start from. Nev
  9. Put it this way. They can only get better. I had PLENTY to do with them and I know of lot's of others, I won't elaborate as Turbo may call Me a CASA Hater again and I might get into trouble. Nev
  10. It's the Method Airlines used and I find it the most foolproof. Of Course nothings foolproof. if planes take off on another shorter runway, or put on extra fuel for weather and it doesn't show on the Loadsheet.. Nev
  11. IF you have LONG lockers have a way of securing the cargo so it cannot move in flight, Nev
  12. You get the stElmos before the lightning. Ona DC4 there was a white light going forward of Both wingtips, then BAM, ball lightning everywhere. Didn't seem to do much other than scare $#1t out of us and temporary Blindness... Between Darwin and East Timor the monsoon clouds looked like a wall of green Ice going to about 60,000 feet. That was on the F-27. QF 1308.. Nev
  13. Who's filling in their suggestions for radio procedures changes? Don't complain if you don't bother. Nev
  14. The real old types are ICAN and the Later ones ICAO. I ALWAYS carried a WHITE plastic one that would fit in my shirt pocket. You use it to work out and check all sorts of things. Nev
  15. Does the Airbox move with the engine?. IF it doesn't you will need great flexibility as the distance is short That means neoprene and maybe go to a bigger diameter if flow concerns you. Use bellows type. Nev
  16. Your CofG varies and Something for from it will have a bigger effect at moving it it, Extra weight AT the CofG will not alter it. Anything ALTERED in the allowable CofG range won't take it Out of the allowable range. For ANY Particular gross wt the Moments added up must be withing 2 figures (aft and fwd) already worked out. There is ALSO a Graphical way of doing all this. I drew up one for the Citabria. That way you can put compartment limits on the chart.. It will show TO Wt . Wt for intended landing and a ZERO fuel wt and CofG and for the other fuel wts as well. Look at examples and work through each, till it makes sense. W&B is a 100%pass exam as is fuel management. nev
  17. Rough inner surface WILL affect flow. There was a laminated aluminium and cardboard product available for Auto use which is durable and heat proof you might try. Easily bent to a semi permanent shape. Nev
  18. I had already given you a "LIKE" I was wondering IF my posts are in "invisible" ink. Nev
  19. Depends on the diameter. It stands to reason it won't bend as easily as the other. Nev
  20. I said the two posts back. It's the "normal" way to do it. Nev
  21. Why did you expect it to? IF it did it would not do the Job. Thats also why it won't bend so easily. Maybe required bends may be done to order, as it is with rubber. It's an entirely different product
  22. DEAD has no relevance. I think they don't know the Meaning.. Nev
  23. Left it a Bit too late Brendon. I have a mate who would be the best instructor ever. Bit Maintenance intensive and VERY expensive in the bigger sizes. That was what some called them in PNG . I also feel safer in 3 axis fixed wing. Nev
  24. Just weigh the nosewheel and you will get a pretty good idea. IF you also do the others you can get it real close ( for your own purposes) Nev
  25. I think the process has become a lot more complex. Did the plans suggest a CofG to expect? if so keep track of the Variations and apply them (Wt change x Distance) for balance and add or subtract for Basic wt . Nev
