I wouldn't do that either on an aeroplane. In Cars it's done with a ventilated engine which has through flow filtered air. I've never seen that on an aero engine.. Nev

You already know I'm a cowl gills person . Getting things UP to temperature has been a bigger problem. and time waster. Merlin engined planes can't stay on the ground long. Nev

I wouldn't recommend anything that returns blowby products to the engine oil. Nev

It's easy to air-cool fast planes and you might even get some thrust effect IF you do it properly. All pistons are unsafe relatively. Nev

Low wing loading planes will "feel" the bumps more. They don't have what used to be known as "Penetration.". To go faster in a glider you add ballast in the form of dumpable water. 200 Knots is not fast. Plenty of jets can't fly that SLOW without "droops' and some flap extended It can take about 20 miles of level flight and spoilers out and power at idle to get to flap extend speeds. IF you think about all that you can see that planning and keeping ahead of the Plane is essential . IF you are getting LOST at high speed you are getting more lost, quicker. Nev

I tried to "explain" it in the first part on behalf of spacey and there's OR in capitals. Your "Gotcha" Moment doesn't help understanding.. Nev -
The Fisher looks truly beautiful especially with the Radial and cowl. . Norm Edmunds built a Corby at Kyneton Victoria, so see if you can contact him. He put out a bit of info during the build process. Nev

The effect on people who know the involved I would say. I don't know how I could/would handle running over some one's little Kid OR injuring people in a plane I flew. . Nev -

There can be plenty of sharks there from Swansea to Stockton. I used to do the beach patrol in a C-150 with a radio station jockey and radio on board. Nev -
The sheer unpleasantness of negative "G" would deter doing it intentionally but I recall hitting the roof of a Mooney with such force that if the straps had been a bit looser we would have sustained injury. This was a few kilometers downwind of a small ridge and I had said "we might geta bump here" but didn't expect it to be so violent.. Nev

Small Market, Can't train in it. 200 Kts is a rough ride at times. You are also getting into "Flutter' territory and where the plane can get ahead of people if they let it. LSA was a stop gap category with more traps/ limitations than benefits. Maybe go EXP VH? Nev

The "demand" oxygen masks are noisy and the microphone is part of them. A decompression is pretty good at telling you what happened. (Your ears feel the pressure change) You have to decide whether to use a high speed descent or slower AIRSPEED when structural damage may be involved.. Achievable ROD's are about 10,000 ft/min. At FL 160 there's NO rush. You probably don't even NEED the OXY masks for that level and the short time you'll be there, but that's the rules and you do it. Nev -

For decompressions the crew have to don demand oxymasks and check oxygen flow and Mics working and doing PA's in that situation is not high fidelity. They also have to declare the descent to ATC so other traffic can be dealt with. EMERGENCY items are MEMORY. There's no time to read from checklists. The fog is from adiabatic cooling and would be much worse at higher levels where the pressure change is larger. Fog can be simulated in SOME simulators for things like Elecrical Smoke or fire 2which also requires Masks be donned. Nev
