  1. The current CASA Safety Seminar talks about communication and CAR 166. Worth going to one if you get the chance. Then what is legal/illegal becomes clearer, along with what is mandatory and what is recommended. AvSafety seminars
  2. Hi, are you coming to AusFly at Narromine this year? No $50 charge. Should be fun.
  3. Not sure where/what the calendar is but would love to see you at Narromine. Everyone welcome.
  4. Well known to locals may be unknown to others. Lately I've heard a few calls 'overhead xyz suburb'. Great but I don't have a street directory open and have no idea where that suburb is. Also recently heard 'overhead Bunnings' . Not that helpful to non locals.
  5. I'm confused .. often .. I had to look up what AROC meant. As a PPL I don't require one. 6. No ticket sales for AusFly - gold coin donation. RAAus thing at Cessnock is a totally separate event.
  7. No schedules yet. Perhaps if a topic particularly interests you let them know your availability for it..
  8. Turboplanner have you seen the link in the earlier post, quoted above?
  9. AusFly starts a few days after Warbirds Downunder Airshow 2018 Temora. May be worthwhile planning both. At least that's what I'm going to try and do. www.facebook.com/ausfly-2018
  10. When I was in my late 40's I asked the local flying instructor about lessons. Kindly response was, 'what does a girlie your age want to learn to fly for?'. A few months later I moved for work. Flying myself home about 18 months later he asked me why I hadn't told him I was serious about learning to fly. And I have too many stories of refuellers and the like asking me if it will be long before the pilot gets back to the plane. Still so many have helped me on my flying journey that I can't take any/too many negatives from these type of comments. If you want to learn to fly just do it!
  11. We've planned Shepp a few times. But didn't know about lunches? Thought it was breakfast? And even at 10 it's proved too hard to make it from Moorabbin in winter. Landing fees haven't been what's stopped us.
  12. Rosemarie age shouldn't be a barrier.
  13. When I was learning at Swan Hill a decade ago lots of the RAA students would come and stay for 2 weeks. They seemed to achieve a lot given the ability to fly several times a day for a fortnight. The consistency and currency really pushed them along. If I could have taken the time away to do it like that I probably would have. I did most of my dual navs (PPL) with MMFS doing an outback trip over Easter. The flying every day, alternating PIC and PAX with another student really helped reinforce everything for me.
  14. Agree with post above about writing it down. Also, be kind to yourself. This may impact you more than you expect.
  15. Hopefully not extinct. Although I guess it all depends on your interpretation. Holbrook seem to host what I think would come close? And hopefully Narromine will be a friendly old fashioned style fly in.
  16. We've booked accommodation so will definitely be there, weather permitting. Gold coin donation for entry so I guess I can afford this one :) Be great to meet some of you there. 17. Thanks. I've learnt something new. Think AusFly is meant to be inclusive.
  18. Umm sorry to be dumb, but what's AUF?
  19. AusFly is on the SAAA website as well as at www.ausfly.com.au. My understanding is all aviators are welcome.
  20. Hi Bill, I'm not one of the organisers. Just thought it was worth sharing here. Love to catch up with some of you if you're going to be there. Looks like being a fun friendly event. No high ticket prices.
  21. The website has just been updated to show the date on the front page of the website http://ausfly.com.au/ .
  22. I've already let them know that the dates need to be more obvious. But as in my reply above they are the 18th - 21st October.
  23. 18th - 21st October. Click on the link above and all should be clear :) It is going to be informal, and no I don't think RAA will be pulling the strings.
