  1. Thanks for posting that, OK. Very interesting. My cousin in the UK did a similar search to find the history of her uncle shot down in a Lancaster over France. She has visited the field where it crashed, tended, but never cultivated since, by a French farming family. She has some small pieces of the bomber. I will forward this to her. Cheers Neil

  3. Yes, it's enough to make you believe in karma....(well, almost.....as it's so unscientific ).... Cheers Neil
  4. Personally I would go for Glenfiddich....hoots!
  5. Hi Robert, Only 30 years?? You mere youngster! It took me over 40 .... As the others have said - . I am sure you will be contributing lots. Keep us up to date with your progress, and don't hold back on asking any questions.... Cheers Neil
  6. I think that's down to a few wee drams of Scotch, Jimmy.....

  8. Hi Paul & Cheers Neil
  9. I believe we had a thread about this a while ago where somebody came up with statistics that showed you did NOT flip over with fixed (esp tricycle) undercarriage despite the popular assumption that you would..... Cheers Neil
  10. Hi Peter, Welcome! I fly from Penfield, just down the road from Kyneton, and have flown past your airfield many times. You must drop in to Penfield one of these days. We use Texans for training, and I learnt in one - very nice aircraft. Keep us posted on this site with your flying exploits.... Cheers Neil
  11. Hi Vev, Interesting stuff indeed. I'm afraid despite working in acronym-happy IT for decades I couldn't work out what R-LOC was, so had to probe the web. For others in the same position - here it is :- R-LOC is runway loss of control. These are overshoots, undershoots, skids, slides, crosswind incidents, hard touchdowns and all sorts of runway mayhem related to the inability to just basically control the airplane. Cheers Neil
  12. Hi Planey, There is actually a book produced by Brian Goulding and Dick Taylor (Revised Edition 2010) called "Story of a Lanc" NX611 - "Just Jane" which details the entire history of this plane, and I bought it at the Museum when over there. It doesn't seem to have an ISBN that I can see but gives details as :- Printers :- Melton Printers of Lincoln, Industrial Unit 3, Sleaford Road, Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln LN4 2ND, UK Website :- www.meltonprinters.co.uk Publishers : Brian Goulding and Dick Taylor on behalf of Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby, Near Spilsby, Lincolnshire PE23 4DE, UK Website :- www.lincsaviation.co.uk Perhaps if you contact one of the above you may be able to get a copy sent to you. It is good read, and lots of great pix! It cost 10 pounds from the museum. Cheers Neil
  13. Hi Patrick, I certainly intend going. Not sure which day yet - I usually wait to see the forecast and then pick the best one. As I live very close I actually get the train in (and am home in about 30 mins, which is far less time than it would take to even get out of the car park if I drove, which I did once...) Will give you a call nearer the day - it would certainly be good to catch up for a chinwag....No Drifter or Fisher for me - but the Gazelle is rag and tube..... Cheers Neil
  14. Welcome, mothra! Hope the shoulder gets better soon.... Cheers, Neil
  15. ....and the guy only has one eye!! Brilliant!
  16. Hi Phil, Thanks for the info - very interesting. Apparently they use the one at Popham for parachuting......no furry carpets there! Cheers Neil
  17. Hi Phil, Is that plane in your avatar the Antonov AN-2 based at Popham? If so I had a look at that one last year when I was down that way... Cheers Neil
  18. Hi Met, Count Matt & me in (we co-own, so that'll be one Gazelle)...might even give it a wash if there's to be competition! Cheers Neil
  19. Hi WWL, Best of luck with your training. Don't be afraid to seek the advice of the many people on this site - there are loads of people here with stacks of experience. Happy Landings Neil
  20. Hi OME, Yes - they certainly are going to try and get it flying again. I have a mate who lives nearby and he took me there a couple of years ago when I visited him. We saw it taxiing (although it was rather miserable weather), and as Bryon said , the sound of 4 Merlins is absolutely amazing! Make sure you look round the rest of the site too, as they have lots of other goodies on display. Enjoy! Cheers Neil
  21. Hi Joey, Welcome back. I have been to Tyabb a few times and it seems like a good place to fly from. Enjoy your flying! Cheers Neil
