This has been a huge undertaking for the novices we are, or were. the amount of people who encouraged us and assisted us, your help was appreciated many thanks. Also to RAAus in the help they provided. a big thank you. so here it is a factory built modified 912. boleropilot Posted April 13, 2017 Share Posted April 13, 2017 hey thanks for the kind words guys, not gonna work for this ex aviator, I've slipped my last surly bonds (as PIC anyway) got home from the hospital, settled in, grabbed a nice bottle of red I had saved by using the air extraction method - poured myself a small glass - took one sip, ah hell, it's gone off - didn't pump it properly? poured myself a glass from a new bottle just as my Hunny started crushing some garlic, and I thought my head had been dunked in a bucket of the stuff - incredibly intense smell of garlic in the kitchen... took a nice big sip of the red wine, yuk, tasted almost exactly the same as the other one - I know my reds, and an old cab sav don't taste like a young shiraz - how could they taste the same? - and then the penny dropped... somewhere in my past I have heard of nerve damage causing major malfunctions of the olfactory senses, particularly taste and smell - throw in some double vision and varying degrees of vertigo on an ongoing basis since the accident and you can see quite clearly where I am situated with this little slip off the deck at this point in time... not all that keen on discussing the matter in all that much detail at the moment - things may improve, but if they do it will be a long time coming - at age 66 I can see the writing on the wall here time to spend some serious hours renovating my retirement present, a beautiful little Renault 16TS, and working on my collection of RC aircraft cheers guys, fly safe BP Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dave Tonks Posted April 18, 2017 Share Posted April 18, 2017 hey thanks Frank (and to the other guys who have responded) - much appreciated, I'm feelin' a little fragile here...every positive word helps, believe me smell and taste sensations have improved slightly and most of what I have read tells me to expect that double vision is much the same and is yet to be investigated more thoroughly, vertigo depends on how quick I move around but that alone does not bode well for Drifter flying hell, it don't bode well for RC flying...I know, let's try that first!!! got some real good people lookin' after me and boy do they hate Doctor Google - I just use him for basics and get back to the team for treatment - that should work... as the lead in my favourite movie says - "life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get" 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dave Tonks Posted April 19, 2017 Share Posted April 19, 2017 well ya know I might change me mind about going on with 0455 - been doing some 'flying' on the sim and it's making me think twice - what sort of world would it be without a Drifter key in me pocket..... all depends on how the nerve 'alterations' pan out - gotta say that it appears to be improving at an exponential rate hey if I can use a word that big I can't be washed out yet! will get down to the batcave this afternoon and play with the new 582 for a bit, that should get the juices flowing might even take a cheeky little glass of Pinot Noir with me to sweeten the moments... cheers for now BP Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Our son, 48 years of age, strong as as an Oxe,had Vestibular Neuritis and the Vertigo was so bad, he was disabled for three months! Could do nothing but wait for it to pass! He was originally told by a specialist, it could take months to heal or never and the damage is permanent. Some info for you.
