Savannah S dream machine

I have pipes for rollers...the trick is going to be moving it sideways, then lifting one end high enough to get it onto the trailer from where it is now. It shouldn't be too hard...there's more than one way to defur a feline...)

After that, most of the smaller stuff will go onto the shelves, and I think the bigger parts will stay in the box until needed...

Wing and fuselage skins roll up if you need them to, makes them more compact and less prone to dents when handling. You will be handling them to de-burr, then to clean, then to mask and prime with black, then to assemble. Putting them into and out of the box is a two person job if you try to handle them flat, so get some more straps like the ones they supply to form the leading edge skins, they will hold the rolls.

More really helpful info, thank you RA.

And I shouldn't be bunging up Guy's strand here with my bits & pieces, so time finally for me to be starting my own Savannah strand.

I'll do that this evening...see you there, I hope...

Thanks again, Guy & RA.This info is all gold for me & very much appreciated.

Got DIY shelving finished today. Fit and wire lighting & power in the next couple of days. Then I'll be ready, finally, to move the box from the little shed.

I shall lie awake tonight trying out various schemes for moving it......)

...whereupon events promptly overtook me. Pesky the way life gets in the way of flying...or dreams of flying...or the construction of flying machines...or even the writing about any of this. Eh well. I shall try again, shortly...

Here my transmit set-up, sliding the button inside the rubber grommet which fits nicely into the hand grip

I did mine with a nylon bush, the outer diameter is 28.6mm, step is 26.6mm, the riser is 16mm diameter and rises 9mm. The hole up the middle is 11mm reduced to 6.25mm where the nut seats.

Nicely done Rankamateur;

Did you turn the nylon bush and the spacer yourself or were these supplied with the XCOM kit? I am at exactly that point with my MGL radio and would like to use the grips that came with the Savannah.

Fly safely,

Dan

Ran the motor for the first time and sounded sweet and grunty. Had one fuel leak which was promptly fix then did some taxi around a bit to get the feel of brakes, steering etc. Was very tempting to give full throttle and go do a few laps but luckily commonsense prevail.

Looks great Steve and yea I'm also interested if you made the the nylon bush yourself or you can buy them like that.

I did it myself Dan, that is why I included the measurements so you can do it too. The Xcom kit could come with a bush as part of the custom Savannah wiring kit, but it doesn't. It didn't even have the screws to mount the radio in the panel which is disappointing.

Edit: I did reply last night, but didn't hit post sorry.

I mounted it in the plane today, I think it would be better if it rises 10mm instead of 9mm. It is quite usable but an extra millimetre would be better.

AERO 2016 - ICP Ventura - FlyEurope.tv

A New model from ICP and If we ever get a weight increase this could be my next build, just kidding I think as planning on having plenty of fun with the Savannah first.

Maybe one for some future builders and be interesting in what the finish weight would come out at ?

Still waiting on the final paperwork to be process for my Sav, been 2 weeks and still no word, so no flying yet.

Resister a Savannah.

That is a fairly unusual request, you must expect delays!!

Got the Ok from Ra aust on thursday, so the following morning saw me down the hanger giving the plane a good check over.

Then taxi up and down the runway getting the feel of her at different speeds and checking the brakes etc. A few more laps saw me taking off a few feet and landing again before coming back to the hanger for a cuppa and to settle down and recollect myself. A hour later saw me hit the skies taking off and doing 3 circuits at 1000ft getting the feel of the controls before coming back in to land. She flew beautiful and found the controls very responsive and plenty off feel like it's a part of me.

One very happy chappy.P6100277.JPG.f0c8c069fe16b0fcab8529e0c3cd90dd.JPG

The Savannah I trained in had a little imperfection on the ball and used to stick, so Bill pulled it out and put a Winter one in it.

M....we've got a Tecnam here and the compass sticks every time you go round a corner...sort of daft enough to be almost humorous???........

Congrats Guy, even though I am a week late. Nothing can compare with that first flight in something you have built yourself.Enjoy.

Bob

Thanks Bob and your not wrong with the feeling of flying something you built and glad I did the test flying.

Thanks 88,

With work, wind and rain I haven't been up as much as I would have liked.

Well today I took time out with calm condition making it perfect for a few hours flying, flying from Lismore to Casino to do a few circuits before dropping in to see a mate who has his own strip.

Try to unload some photos but saying to big which is a pain.
