Not-Kosh 2018 Proposal ...

Running a fly in is probably simpler than the everyday management of risk by RAA.

 

It’s a matter of looking at all the potential risks, coming up with an action plan to manage them, and taking out Public Liability Day/weekend cover for the worst case scenario.

 

Many Airshows have had disasters, so deleting this from the event removes the stigma and most of the real risk.

 

That then leaves hooning and risk taking by participants, and that has happened at fly ins, but you can manage behaviour substantially by the tone of the promotion.

 

The promotion and management of the event is where most manpower is required.

 

Just recently someone posted a checklist for running a fly in and it was a big list. I thought it was on this site and meant to take a copy of it, but forgot. Anyone else see it?

Anyone else see it?[/QThis year I organised the Lakeside Easter flyin/BBq with minimal marshals and no fences at all just orange cones and the main talking/gathering place was a large hanger with tables and chairs and seats outside to watch the rc model boys doing their thing as well and had over 60 people and 30 aircraft for two days and it was fantastic weekend with morning bbq breaky and roast pork dinner. Over the whole weekend there was not one incident or accident, nor was there any runway incursions or clashes, nor did we have anyone walking into props or breaking planes etc and there was a few kids there too. Now in the lead up to this event I posted a simple set of rules and guidelines about parking engine start up s etc and also a few locals turned up for a look too as the rc club I invited brought out their families and everyone was well behaved and used COMMON SENCE and as I said before there was not ONE problem during this event and everyone had a ball,So it,s not that hard to organise this type of gathering at all just need willing people who are prepared to give a bit of time and effort. ps rather then look like a commercial money charging event, which would put it into car 156 area,,i just had a big money box donation tin and told everyone to just chuck in what they thought the weekend and dinner was worth,,,,well all up after covering all costs and buying Pooly a bottle of rum [he owns the airstrip lol] we had excess remaining so that sort of speaks for itself about how people are not scared of paying a bit for something that is run right with out the ss type marshals and 6ft high fences and nany uni students trying to tell aviators and friends how to behave around airplanes etc, all up people responded beautifully to common sence rules without the cracking of jackboots and whipping of canes etc and they enjoyed themselves ....................Scott Evans....................pps regarding communications we are ctaf with everyone calling arrivals at 5 miles and then using see and be seen and talked to eachother and this resulted in not one air related or runway issue either.................

The days without 20 yr old uni students trying to tell experienced pilots and families how to behave around airplanes and ss marshals and cracking of jackboots by big headed organisers and whipping of canes etc,,thanks for the memories manna........And the days of REAL ULTRALIGHTS and days of AFFORDABLE FLYING FOR EVERYONE, the original mantra of the AUF before it was stolen by the failed GA brigade..................

Bull, I think you could have charged for the dinner at least.

No I told everyone the main meal was going to be roast meat and veges, with salad for the weight watchers and desert,and said the costing was about 20//25 per head on the days leading up to the event but still went with the donation tin ,because some people must have thought it was worth more than that and donated accordingly.................An HONEST no frills event with minimal over the shoulder watching and treating grown experienced aviators and family as GROWN EXPERIENCED AVIATORS not like little children ...........

Over 'ere, organising a fly in is quite simple. People get on a forum similar to this one; propose a destination (either UK or somewhere continental Europe), there's a bit of a squabble on dates and once sorted, someone makes a call to the destination to ensure enough food is ordered at the on-site restaurant and we all descend using SOPs ..

 

Only at organised events rather than these casually organised fly-ins are there w-anchors and hooligans...

And so everyone here knows, I have never ever organised anything before in my life,even birthdays and such used to scare me lol but my brother Doug did the one in 2016and I went to it and helped him , and used his guidance and advice to pull off an awesome 2 days for everyone ,,,So yes Turbo I,ll except your mighty praise with dignity and pride as I even impressed my self lol .. But getting back to the reason for responding to you [TURBO} was to show that it is really not that hard or much of a big headache if you just show some trust in your fellow aviators and be prepared to put up your own money and any other contributors money to make it the best you can with what you have and let the people decide,,,,,as you can see I did many trips with the trailer raiding peoples back yard for their chairs and such etc etc but after the event the feeling I got made it all very worthwhile...............

Na I cant do that Turbo me old mate , as I think those pesky airventury narrowmind fellows already did that,and they did call them that name thingy you said jerry but they might have also been there to stop anyone from seeing anything without squares in front of them and any photographers from making any money out of photos of that event too I thinky as they really seemed concerned about that money thingy and to stop any nasty untrustworthy aviator people from jumping that little 1 mt high fence that was already there as it was airside and no outside people could have jumped that little fence , only those sleazy untrustworthy penny scrimping aviators I thinky but I have been wong many times 2 and it could have been there to catch those pesky wondering aeryplane thingys from getting at the crowd too....................lol

Easy as , as posted in the simple common sence rules I posted days before the event , was one rule that drinking was to be only done in the hanger s at night after flying had finished for the day ,and that all dogs if bought had to remain on a lead at all times ,and kids where to remain under the care of parents at all times [but we also set up a play area in a hanger for them] And as to your reference to the lovely old codger with the flooded 503 on his Scott winton designed aircraft years ago ,,,well that was at one of the supposed safety thingy run by lawyers and bean counters too, nothing to really do with the event just the management and it really comes down to the rules about starting aircraft and parking areas , already mentioned in the lead up to the event, Turbo anything else you can come up with to stop aviators having great get togethers and having fun because it is not run by airventury or raaaaa thingymebob fellas or paying out over priced fees to LAWYERS for bits of paper that are really not worth the value that LAWYERS would let you believe that those bits of paper hold,,,because there will always be someone with bigger pockets and BETTER LAWYERS who will eat you for dinner anyway [sorry about the lawyer thingys mister turbo please don't sue me please,i only have a little airplane........So to have fun you must carry some risk ,because you will NEVER eliminate risk from ANY thing we do[shit I could break my back by falling out of bed rolling over while I,m asleep,but I,m aint gunna put hospital rails on my bed to please some lawyer,nor am I gunna put a muzzle and trim the claws of my CAT because i could get scratched or bitten,,etc,,,,] how far do you go with the nannying Turbo???
