  2. Hi Ian, Just got in late thisarvo. from the OLD STATION fly-in. Another great weekend, and planning is on already for another one next year. Mate can you give me some info. on flat card compass to fit to the old lightwing please, the only ones I've found so far are marine ones Cheers Davo. PS. It's to replace one of the old instruments, and also a analogue clock for the panel. thanks mate:big_grin:
  3. Hi Ian. I was over at Balantree Aviation today, and was going to go on over to Old Station but it was blowing a pretty stiff easterly and would of taken me 1/2hr. to do the 20nm. so headed back home while I had a good tail wind. I heard you call from Old Station to say you were heading home, but I was getting towards Banana at that time I'll probably go over on Friday arvo. and try to get sorted with the aircraft parking bit. Mate, I'd like to talk to you as you have experience from previous times. My No. is 0414 832946 if you don't mind could you give me a quick buzz and I'll ring you back. Cheers Davo.
  4. Hi Richard and Jenny, I was going to send a email over when I got back from Maryborough but got busy doing other catch up work around the place here along with being back on shift at work. Anyway, to bring you up to date with things over this side of the hill. Tomorrow (Sun.22) we are having a pancake breakfast at Miles place near Wowan, expect about 5 or 6 aircraft in so looking forward to a good morning. What we aim to do here in the C.D.F.G.Inc. is to have a get together every month at a different strip for morning tea, maybe a fly around the area or something similar, a barby lunch then head home, it doesn't matter whether two or twenty two planes fly in. The area we cover is from Old Station in the north, Baralaba in the west and down to Rockybar just below Cracow in the south. We are 10nm. north of Theodore, the property is called Frogs Hollow and its on Lonesome Ck. you can see our strip on Google Earth S24*49.355 E150*08.396 we closed the cross strips as we never use them, although we do keep a track mowed for emergencies. Will see you next week at Old Station. Cheers Davo. Dave and Liz See

  8. Hi Folks I was speaking with Leonie Creed on Sunday night and she asked if I could let as many as possible, (who are coming to Old Station) know that she has lost most of the details for accommodation, and if you could please contact the Creed family to see if you still have accommodation there. Leonie is concerned that she has lost contacts and wasn't able to notify as to yes or no for a bed. If you don't still have the poster on the weekend, the contacts are.... For Leonie Creed its best to email as she is often out of the house and mobile reception isn't very good there [email protected] 0438 346563 ...............this for accommodation. Leonie Creed [email protected] 0408 346536.................this for aircraft enquiries. Ron Creed See you there for the weekend of 28/29 May, not far away now:smile: Hope this dosen't cause any problems for you. Cheers Davo. Secretary C.D.F.G.inc.
  9. Congrats Darky. Great feeling to know you are one of the few who can enjoy the real freedom after all the effort and time you put in. It is worth it though.......Good on yu Cheers Davo:wave:
  10. Congratulations Evan. I just came in from a quick spin around the area in the old Lightwing, yesterday I'd promised my young neighbour (11yr. old) a fly soon. And the little bugger was up and had his chores done, on his sisters push bike and at our door before 6:30 this morning. ( I was thinking more like the weekend) At least he has his priorities right, had him back on the ground by 7:45 so he could get home in time to go to school. Anyway, what this is leading up to is that I came in to have a coffee and catch up with whats happening on the site and read your thread. Good on you mate that first solo is one flight you will never forget, and to wave it published, that's awesome. I get both PF and RAA mags. so am looking forward to reading your side of it. Cheers Davo:-)
  11. Freekin heck......130hp. that thing should climb vertical.... Serious though, it sure looks like you can have some serious fun on that. Welcome to the site. Cheers Davo.
  12. Congrats. Pete.. That's a flight you'll always remember, good on you mate, we might even see you at OLD STATION at the end of May. If that's John Walmsley's Lightwing, then you are training under one of the best C.F.I's around, and say hi to him and Linda for me please Cheers Davo.
  13. Thanks John and Spin, that looks like the one. And yes to the Tuskegee Airmen as a good one too Cheers Davo.
  14. I saw a moovie about 15yrs. ago, I can't remember the exact name but it was based on a true story about a couple of blokes who were ferrying two Ag-tractors from America to Sydney, the hoppers were converted to fuel tanks. One went in the drink at Hawaii (full of fuel, to heavy and clipped the trees on take off) the other flew on and finished up lost, low on fuel and in a storm and by then it was dark. A commercial airline out of N.Z. tracked him down and got him back to land as he ran out of fuel. It was called something like..."The search for flight 327'....or " In search of flight 327"...327 is not the numbers, I just used them as an example, was a great movie and have never seen it or heard of it since. Cheers Davo.
  15. Wish you all a great Christmas and an even greater New Year. Especially to Ian and Family for giving us such a wonderful place to share our experiences. We are having a wet one up here, the Dawson River is expected to peak tomorrow (friday) at 13.5mtr. thats 1.5mtr. over major flood height, a lot of sand-bagging going on in town at present, we can't get there as we are cut off by the water too. Black soil here so cannot move till it dries out a bit. Cheers Davo
  16. Mate, I'd gladly pay $50 to have the lightwing washed, because whoever did the job would earn their money, a lot of cattle in the airstrip paddock and no matter how careful one is, you always seem to find a fresh one. the worst of it is when you taxi with the door open and thats when you are leaning out the side to see into the setting sun and eyes squinted up to see through the glare and don't see the freshly made 'cake' just sitting in the grass waiting for some old fool to be coming home when.......splatter,splatter and splat,......instantly say f**<;!!'~,:/**......then think to oneself 'bugger, I've done that before'.....you idiot. Then your wife won't let you in the house until you clean up and stop smelling, and you gotta clean the plane pretty quick too, the tail wheel goes up on the fence post to wash under the tail and aww, damn it, it just goes on and on, it just tops the day off nicely... really makes you enjoy a beer or four.. Cheers Davo.
  17. Dingo Roadhouse on the Capricorn hwy. about 1/2 way between Rockhampton and Emerald. Land and taxi up to the back door. Cheers Davo.:)
  18. Congratulations mate, it's a feeling you'll never forget:clap:
  19. Hi Darkey, Been away for a couple of days, just now on line and saw the 'bad luck / good luck' incident. Main thing is you are all here to tell about it.... Wedgies' are one of our greatest concerns up here in Qld. the only days we don't come across them is on windy days, have had them go between us when flying along in company and we've often wondered what damage they'd do, sure know now. Sorry you found out the hard way, keep up the good work and flying, and hope to see you around one day. Cheers Davo.
  20. I have just received word that a great friend and a man who has been flying most of his life has passed away after a battle with cancer. He was the owner of Smokey Creek at Jambin and the main-stay behind the Callide Dawson Flying Group. Kev Wilson will be sadly missed for a long, long time. Our thoughts are with his family. Dave See Secretary C. D. F. G.
  21. Hi Tomo, Mate if I was doing that run, I'd head out to Miles then up over the Taroom strip (a bit more open country going nth. along eastern side of highway for that 20nm from Miles) from Taroom track 10* M for 45nm. brings you over the Gleebe Wear, a little bit of gorge country and sorgum and cotton fields, you hit the Theodore Cracow rd. turn to 341*M for 18nm. brings you to our place, on the bend of the gravel rd. ( Frogs Hollow S24* 49.355 E150* 08.396 ) 1.000mtr. grass strip ph.0414832946. From here, track 325* M for47nm. takes you over Moura and Baralaba to the bend in the power lines, follow these for 50nm will bring you to Capricorn Hway. near a radio/repeater tower about 8nm east of Blackwater town, then straight to Capella (55nm) and on to Clermont (30nm) Hope it helps, its a bit long winded, but it takes you over fairly open country all the way Cheers Davo.
  22. Caps Hi Ian, if you get the caps moving is there any chance of sourcing them without that pesky little button on the top? as my headphone usually ends up driving it into the top of my bald head. Cheers Davo:big_grin:
