  1. Goodaye all There are different torque setting for oiled and no oiled bolts, make's a huge difference. If memory serve's me correct about three times the value. Most manuals state when oil is to be used, but most people are thinking they are doing the right thing in dousing things in oil or using CRC. So unless specified use clean dry bolts or nuts. regards Bruce

  5. Goodaye all My first and second medical cost me $200 at the same medical centre my GP works at. My instructer at the time advised me to find another centre as my full records are available to the DAME. Anyway went there, passed my tests with the DAME pointing out that l might get a letter/review from CASA about using morphine in the last six months. He noted on the report that l had both my hips replaced 6 months earlier and that was the reason. The next day l acturley saw my surgon and said l was learning to fly, he was pleased and as long as l wasnt intending to jump out of the plane was happy with it all. Never heard from CASA, but then again l have nothing to hide. Little off topic, previus to having my hips done l would not been able to get into a aircraft, l couldnt walk 200m and was in constint pain. For RPL all you need to pass the medical to drive your car, when it comes in. regards Bruce
  6. Goodaye all It come down to saftey and insurence. l can see a benifit of these things in many situations but not all. Collision, Yes Structural failure, Yes Engine failure, Maybe (Tiger Country) Control system failure, Maybe Fire, No BUT it comes down to training and each indervidual circumstance. l had looked at putting one of these in the Couger and had decided not to, of what l have seen that they had not been used as a last resort. l am now reviewing that decision, l have always wanted to make the Couger as safe as possible for the family. The thing that could stop me is what structural points l need to attach it too. Floating down nose first doesnt thrill me. l wonder how much training went into the correct use of these systems?? regards Bruce
  7. Goodaye all First off l better say l am not a member of the RAA. But its future is important as l have a family of junior flyers. But can l make a suggestion that a member well versed in the constitution (preferably a legal type) be able to intervene on members behalf about the running of the meeting and ensure that qeustions and answers are delt with correctly. l would almost suggest a recording of the meeting be made with all aware it is being so, just so nothing gets lost in the minutes. The "chair person" should be made aware that a eye is kept on procedings and it is expected that all parties adhere to the\ there constitional duties. regards Bruce
  8. Goodaye all A builder doing maintenence on there own or simaler aircraft makes sense however some people should not be builders. Building a aircraft requires a different mindset and a understanding of risk managment. Rather than accept a part or drawing a builder needs to access what would happen if that part failed. If a failure would leed to becoming a smoking heap you need to ask is the part in serviceable condition, can it be made better or can redundancy be improved. None of this she'll be right or l think its ok. l have a saying "if in doubt throw it out" Now saying this a modification should be run past the designer, engineer or tech officer before being fitted. regards Bruce
  9. l maybe seeing this as simplistic here's why. l would submit questions to the board on why they ignored the constitution, qoute the area's and ask for specific answer. You would find that they are compelled to answer/respond. Now l bet if legal action was taken agaisnt a board/member and it was shown that they had not acted within the constition the insurence company would not cover legal liability and the board/member would personely become liable not the insurer or RAA regards Bruce

  11. Goodaye all Hope you had a good Christmas and didnt drink too much. Been finalising the fuel cell install today, had to drill a large hole in the cell for the sender unit. l drilled the hole with the cell on its side so as not to get any plastic in it. Well l didnt get any plastic swarf in in but when they drilled holes for inlets and outlets those Yank's certinaly did. Not happy about it but was going to check anyway, l got 90% out and will get one of my children with smaller arms to get the rest. Funny it had one of those American made quility stickers on the box. regards Bruce
  12. Goodaye all We have parachute operations at the feild l am training at, l give the drop zone a wide berth at all times. That way if a call was missed l should be clear, and if l do hear a call no matter where l am in the circut l keep a eye out. l feel paranoia is good for me and the jumper, although jumping out of a perfectley good aircraft does seem foriegn to me. Another words treat the drop zone as active at all time's regards Bruce
  13. ASIC oversea, corporations, associations and clubs. The RAA would be required to get a report to ASIC each year. It would include finacials and minutes from the AGM if memory serves me correct. Need to be provided by the RAA public officer. If these things have not been forwarded and be correct ASIC can investigate. l suppose a association can be reported for the board ignoring its own constitution by members. regards Bruce

  15. Goodaye all Todays new tip. If you are like me and have gone through a heep of power drills through the years, keep the chucks. Stick a drill bit in the chuck and you have a hand tool for removing burr's after drilling a hole. One for the not so faint hearted, put the chuck on a 4" grinder and you have a right angle drill. Quote the part number found in the Rocket industries catalouge. http://www.rocketindustries.com.au/catalogue Have a good look through it, Cleco's and hose clamping systems, Narca vents can also be found, not to mention fuel cells. All could be had by charging them out to you car, truck or rip off your customer. http://www.rollcages.com.au/ Excelent source for Chrome molly steel at good price's Mandrel bend for manifolds as well, silicone pipeing.   21. Goodaye all l am building with GA rego in mind as experimental. Will be allowed to go to full load in the Couger and take 4 passengers. Through the SAA l will get my maintenence ticket to maintain it myself. When l loose my PPL l will still have a RPL sdo l can still fly it. One of my sons is also a builder and may get his maintenence ticket as well. Hoping to keep costs right down and have a plane available for my children. Should also point out the psycological aspects of building, you time in the garage and taking pride in something you built. (But saying that somepeople should not build there own plane) regards Bruce
