  1. Goodaye all Sat down with the CFI at my school, to convert my GFPT to RPL. Was due for a flight test and did the reveiw the week before so only needed to fill in paperwork. Was current on my medical and have a ASIC. Spent a hour doing paperwork and then did the english test (l thought it was good laugh but not worth the cost) It was recorded and will be kept on file for CASA if required. Discussed the extra privlidges and my responsibilities and we were done, paperwork off to CASA Seemed painless but we will see. Will wait till the new year to do my Navs as that side of it has not been setup yet. regards Bruce
  2. Oh and l forgot. l have to convert my GFPT to RPL regards Bruce
  3. Finished a chev engine rebuild. Extending the decking and a new carport. Painting the sons Gemini. Dusted the Couger. regards bruce
  4. Goodaye all After being told to get your affairs in order and expect the worse, l am un grounded. All the tests showed a aggressive form of the big C, but after 3 failed biopsys and a 4th successful l have a treatable disease. May or may not worry me in the future. So l will be finishing the Couger and flying it. regards Bruce
  5. l looked at one to do trim parts for cars, but figured l had enough projects at the moment. l would have needed a 3D scanner to go with it. regards Bruce
  6. Goodaye all The Couger and Viking are now forsale. l am grounded. regards Bruce
  7. Goodaye l picked up a sheet of 3036 T6 on ebay for $26, from a guy who abandoned his project. regards Bruce
  8. Thanks for your replies, l thought l was strange (well may be l still am but thats another topic) As l said l like to confront this and carefully do what l need to, have a few breaks and tend to drink way too much coffee. But at the end of it l get it done. As a side note one of the guys in the office who can see me working is visably disressed and shaking watching me. regards Bruce
  9. Goodaye all Been working about 5m in a cherry picker the last couple of days repairing a building at work. (tip dont drive a tip truck through a shed with the body up?) l have always had a problem with heights and l still do even though l make a point of confronting it. But l have no problem flying, l cant work out why. Does anybody else have this? regards Bruce
  10. Not flying as much as l want but am keeping my skills ok. Next flight is a check flight. Medical due next month and shhhh l am turning 50 regards Bruce
  11. Goodaye If you want free mechanical/fitting experience l have heaps of jobs for you. Remove and rebuild a small block chev for a 57 chev. Paint and put together a TX Gemini Coupe (its a rolling shell at the moment) Refit motor gearbox and all trim. Dismantle a TX Gemini parts car. Make a new wiring loom for a Grp3 Build a new decking and carport ( working with wood, yes there still wooden aircraft out there) Detail the Magnum for the Australian Grand Prix No wonder l havent been able to touch my plane at the moment. regards Bruce
  12. Mechanical and electric fuel pumps need something to pump l beleive. regards bruce
  13. Planning on the whole elevator, hence it wont require much movment. Trying not to have anything incorporated in the elevator. regards Bruce
  14. Yes l know the gearing is too high in the sketch. Electric hmmm, maybe. regards Bruce
  15. Goodaye all Been a while, not much work done on the plane but a heap of car maintence. Have a idea about the elevator trim that l would like to run past people. Always trying to have redundacy l wanted to be able to use the elevator trim to fly the aircraft if the elevator cable or controls failed. Flown a warrior with the trim wheel just for the experience (not landing or take off) Have a look at the pic and give me some thoughts. First the trim wheel is conected to a relay lever by a continuos length of bungee. Then connected to the relay lever is a Bowden cable that is connected to the elevator horn. Simple l think. l would expect to have a number of positions in the relay lever to get the force required right and the bugee cable would be 1.5-2m long. Cant see me getting much done until after April, have anew decking to build and one of my sons purchased a Gemini rolling shell which muggens here will have to paint and get it going. regards Bruce
  16. Is this the replacement for a Flux Capacitor? Looks bigger than the one l have. regards Bruce
  17. Flying like he stole it maybe. regards Bruce
  18. l have a couple of cars that would love some avgas:thumb up: regards Bruce
  19. My daily driver is a Brock WB Statesmen Caprice Magnum, one of about 6 built. regards Bruce
  20. No you need a flux capacitor for that. regards Bruce
  21. Hang about, doesnt Jabs use Automotive valves and lifters?? You could agure the incoreect oil is used. From a 5 litre Holden for instance??? regards Bruce
  22. Thanks Vev That's it the ZDDP was what l was thinking of. I am afraid the newer replacement doesnt work that well with older engines very well, kills cam lobes quick smart if the cam isnt run in. There's a story from the 80's l could tell, but that doesnt relate to aircraft. regards Bruce
  23. Goodaye all There is something that has not been mentioned, the oil companys have removing the zinc in oils for many years. This reduces the shear properties of the oil and wears cams and valve stem quicker to the point wear they can fail after a few hours. Zinc in autmotive oil had to be reduced due to the catalytic convertor getting gummed up, l should see that aero oils have not been reduced either. PS a tip for car owners Penrite mineral oils still have a high Zinc content. regards Bruce
  24. Also l should add there should be crush tubes between the cases to prevent the casing being pulled together to hard and changing the bearing clearences. If the bolts had been over torqued they should be checked and if required replaced. Proberley should raplace them anyway on a AIRCRAFT engine. regards Bruce
