  1. Mooroolbark Vic regards Bruce
  2. It should, the lower cowel will need mods and its only 5kg heavier than a Jab with fluids l am told. l should put mine on the scales and check. The crate it came in said 90kgs so it should be very close to 76kg, thats with radiators ready to bolt up. So the added wait for oil coolers, filter, coils are included in that and no black magic ducting required to keep it cool. l trust my life in a Viking/Honda can that be said of another brand? regards Bruce
  3. Mine is still sitting under the bench, l hope to have funds for a mount next month so l can mount it. As always people are welcome to come and have a look. Looks a very professional setup and l have been keeping a eye on the Viking forum for other peoples thoughts on electrical system. Has Jab mounting points so l can use Garys mount. will be 40mm shorter. And its a Honda and doesnt have through bolts. As for a NEW core l will pick up a new crate engine later when l get to 2000hrs. regards Bruce
  4. Its a beam front end, luckly. The knee action ones are a pain. To own a chev is to own a oil leak. The Viking sales have taken off so l am told, there still cagy about the new manifiold figures. Just stating more power less fuel. No figures. and of course more money for the upgrade. regards Bruce
  5. How about a tease? http://members.optusnet.com.au/hartleyfamily/newindex regards Bruce
  6. l havent finished my plane yet but have a cool car/cars. regards Bruce
  7. So it comes down to ignorence on both parties. l also read those laws recently and some of the claims can be backdated. regards Bruce
  8. And there service agents should be also???? regards Bruce
  9. The crank for example, as l read australian warrenty laws they have to repair it, which means they have to take it out and fit a new one at no cost. As the part was supplied unfit for purpose. Through bolts would be the same. regards Bruce
  10. Bugger, now l am going to have to scrap them off the windscreen as well as the tires. regards Bruce
  11. Goodaye all Can someone explain to me why Engine/ aircraft manufacturs do not pay for recall on parts that could be suspect? The Rotax crankshaft and Jab through bolts come to mind. In the car industry it the maker that picks up the cost. regards Bruce
  12. l will be using plastic fuel cells, light, foam filled, all the fittings, certified for ALL fuels but are basicaly boxs. So if you can fit a box in maybe they could be the go. Cant get any safer. regards Bruce
  13. Good maintenence is part of it, but understanding why it is important also. l will be doing the maintenence course so l can maintain my aircraft, but backing me up is a couple of bits of paper on the wall. l wonder how many people do the course but not update ther skills regulary? regards Bruce
  14. l have a different background and thoughts on building a aircraft and have noticed a few things. Builder flyers are older. Some of the standards in aviation are hard to get your head around. A example was acceptable fuel leaks, the planet l live on would not allow a hazard like this. In general a homebuilder will take more care, but not understand what they need to acheive. ( Building all parts with risk managment in mind) regards Bruce
  15. l am still here. No work on the plane though. Been busy with other things and had my daughter in Hospital for a while. l have fitted power steering to my 57 Chev. Fitted a dof dof upgrade to the stereo in the Magnum. Done a TV comercial with two cars. Done 2 days on a Movie set in another car. (pays for flying stuff) Upgraded the PC in the garage to network cable and fitted a TV card which of course l fitted a external aerial. Should be back to it next week. Thinking of buying a Tig welder to make my own engine mount or get work to buy a Tig welder l can borrow. regards Bruce
  16. Goodaye all Before l started my quest for my own build l did a lot of research, must be the engineer in me. First conlusion l came to was that the Jab doesnt make TBO often with out major work an cost big dollers to run/maintain. Secondley after reading a lot of horror stories l decided not to trust my life and my familys with one. The engineer in me tells me stronger/touger through bolts are required, at this stage l would say stuff the specs lets go the highest spec l could use and also move up a size. Using a soft sealent on the barrel that moves doesnt seem right to me either. regards Bruce
  17. Goodaye all Had to replace the battery in my garage alarm today and thought l should pass it on. l have in my garage a modified car alarm that runs on 12v from a car battery. Covers all the doors and windows. Being a car alarm l have remotes that l use to arm and disarm it, l also have a keyed master switch in a wall that also can switch it off. The battery is usally one that is on the way out, having 4 cars it gets swaped out regulary and every month or so l throw the charger on it. Seems to last well. Being detached from the house l turn the power off as l finish for the day. You could use a 12v power pack but this could set the alarm off. if the power goes out. A solar charger is also no good as it also will trip most alarms. Its only a basic alarm you need, think it cost me $80, l wont tell the brand if you dont mind. Now for a hanger you could use a car alarm that has a sim card and ring you when it goes off, once again you dont need mains power. This would be a more upmarket setup, but would be cheap and reliable. Or you could use the cheaper setup that would just make noise to scare them off. l have had it for over 10 years protecting my cars and now my plane build. If people are interested l get do a general diagram. PS Ff any body has old Cobra car alarm bits l would be interested in them. regards Bruce
  18. Seems to bend ok, Gary does the lower longerions though. Lots of rope and the couple of big screw drivers to pull it together. regards Bruce
  19. Goodaye all Havent done a lot over the Holidays (except refurbish computers ) but l have roughed out my intrement panel. You will see where l have put the throttle and handbrake, l now have no cables running in or through the dash. laid it out the way l feel it should go, but l am sure it will change. l'll leav it sit there while l am working to see what l think. Got heaps of footroom. Getting back to the refurbishing of computers, l have some ex corporate P4's for sale cheap and some XP professional licenses. regards Bruce
  20. l have aset of Fibre glass ones thankyou. And l am not sure if l have mentioned this but l hate fibre glassing. regards Bruce
  21. Not sure on that, l will be out of a grass strip. l will look at it and maybe do something clever later. regards Bruce
  22. Goodaye all l have had my test pilots helping today. And my oldest in the backseat also, all 6ft of him. He said it was comfortable but l dont beleive him. The front seat brace inplace, locks the fron seats in position as well. With two pins removed the brace folds down out of the way and both seats can fold forward. There is a little force placed on the sides from the overcentre function of the brace and in conjunction with the seat brackets it all locks up solid. l decided to have the brace fold down just in case the cancopy ever comes down, that would be expensive. The rear seat will have a centre armrest????? l will slot some some 25mm square tube and fit the elevator cable inside, bit of padding and its done. l may put the rear wiring down the tube as well. regards Bruce regards Bruce
  23. Hope Gary doesnt mind, looks very good. Merry Christmas Bruce
