  1. I was departing Bankstown at 1000ft today and just outside the boundary there was a drone flying at our altitude maybe 200 metres away. My passenger who is a 747 captain (reliable witness ?) also saw it when I pointed it out. I reported it to the tower. They are out there
  2. No, one of those is currently for sale as a project and the other is in bits. They are both still at The Oaks.
  3. Flew from Camden to Wagga and back yesterday to visit my son - bit cold early morning hand starting the Auster minus 2 degrees. Well worth it though as the conditions were fantastic - almost no bumps and crystal clear
  4. We have four Cessna 172s - and the weight carrying differs significantly depending on the model. As mentioned the S model has 180HP and the R has 160. They are identical engines with only the prop allowing the 180 to be achieved. We recently converted one of ours from 160 to 180HP. Tach, Prop and airspeed indicator were the only significant changes. The 180HP ones will indicate about 120 knots at cruise and 2500ft For reference, here is some approximate data on ours 172S G1000 - empty 801, max 1156 172S - empty 768, max 1156 172R with 180HP - empty 764, max 1156 172R - empty 759, max 1113
  5. There are a couple of aeroncas at wedderburn and a j3 cub at Camden. There is also an l4 cub at Camden. The l4 is the military version. Others have mentioned th MK V Auster which is what I have. They came with a lycoming engine originally and are genuine warbirds. Not many of those round. most austere are the civilian types
  6. There are a few in the Sydney area if you are ever down this way
  7. Planning to be there - weather forecast sucks though
  8. I am going to fly the Auster in on Sunday but given the fact that the airshow now goes through to 5pm I am resigned to leaving it outside overnight. Was initially listed as finishing earlier on the Sunday
  9. I missed it too as the east coast weather was really bad all weekend.
  10. VH-ABA rebuild is done. Quite a few people asked to see photos when done so here it is
  11. I was there a couple of weeks ago to refuel. It's an aero refuellers pump that accepts credit cards. Works fine.
  12. A nice full scale Sopwith Baby would suit me I think
  13. Yes we are using a Matt finish per the original. Btw mine has been red and white. The yellow one is ex RCAF. I managed to get a really good match on the dark earth and dark green camouflage colours.
  14. Hi Phil, the auster was damaged by hail a few months ago. Seeing we had to repainted part of it anyway I decided to completely redo it in its original RAF colour scheme as delivered to Normandy
  15. Hi - thanks for that - yes those colours are mentioned a few times but the postwar ones were much brighter that the dull WW2 ones.
  16. I am having some difficulty narrowing down actual paint colour codes to use for RAF WW2 roundels - hoping someone here may have done some research at some stage. The ones I need it for are the dull red and dull blue
  17. Thanks for the offer but no use I am afraid !
  18. Thanks Mich - where are Phones Paints ?
  19. Thanks OME - unfortunately I don't think they do the dope - its Dave who is doing the Auster !
  20. We are almost at the stages of starting the repaint on my Auster into its original colour scheme. Our intention was to use dope over the fabric and two pack on the metal surfaces. Unfortunately the paint supplier who we normally use (Pheonix at Bankstown) is in the process of moving and will not be able to mix paints for another couple of months Any suggestions on a good supplier I could go to ? We will be getting them to mix based on british standard colours
  21. I did mine with Kevin Bowe in Gympie a few years ago - not sure if he is still doing. He uses a Lake Buccaneer flyingboat
  22. I changed from a mini to an Air and love it. Bought a new kneeboard which suits the Air.
  23. A good example is the recent hail damage on my Auster - all covered by insurance - and it was basically out of my control !
