  1. This suggests that you need to have a CASA license to get an ASIC. " Applying for your ASIC Paying for and Collecting your ASIC As a General Aviation pilot who is not paid in their role (i.e. a member of a general aviation flight club), you will not have an Employer who can sponsor your operational need. When applying in the Applicant Portal, you will be asked to enter an Employer Code. You will need to use an Employer Code provided by AusCheck specifically for General Aviation pilots. To obtain this code you should speak to your flight club or contact AusCheck. AusCheck will validate your pilot's licence with CASA prior to sending your application for background checking. Operational Need Template for General Aviation: "I am a recreational pilot and hold a current Flight Crew Licence ... (Licence Number) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). I require an ASIC for unescorted access to ... (specify location or locations if AUS wide is required) to support this activity. You will be required to bring your flight crew licence to the identity verification appointment to be uploaded as evidence of operational need. There will be no other changes to the identity verification process. Canberra Region General Aviation pilots: You will need to ensure you select Department of Home Affairs - Canberra when choosing your Verifier. South Australian General Aviation pilots: You will need to ensure you select Department of Home Affairs - AusCheck - Adelaide Airport when choosing your Verifier." SUCH IS LIFE
  2. Rather presumptuous - this isn't RAAs fault. It might be better to beat up on your local member of parliament - they enacted ASIC - they are the roadblock
  3. That is a very big meter. However there are 1000 mm in a metre
  4. I'm not sure that there was much misrule in the states except that there appears to be a large chunk of the USA who hate dark people and women.
  5. This sounds like more "alternative facts"!
  6. No change, always been a problem.
  7. Enroll in the training and fill in the forms - those should be able to give you a pass/fail before you submit. If you fail then you can organise your ducks for a full class 2. I occasionally fly with more than 1 passenger so no cheap kicks for me.
  8. In some areas in the US they are probably still on party-line phones.
  9. Magazine? I think you're confusing AOPA with RAAus and its magazine.
  10. Cat G and CTA won't be compulsory just as high power and nose wheel are voluntery - I'm not sure but you might be able to get an RPC with no endos at all - it all depends on what sort of flying you do.
  11. You don't need a transponder for Class D or G.
  12. But much better than the usual offering of Dolly and Womens Weekly from 1993 at the dentist. I read the magazine to be informed and entertained and you can turn down the corners to keep your place. With 10,000 members there is a wide variety of expectations and biases. PS at the strip it is called "mogas" to distinguish it from "avgas" with an expectation that that description wouldn't include E10 - bad stuff for planes.
  13. Have a link to a wavelength table. https://www.cumulus-soaring.com/files/antenna_lengths.pdf 121.5Mhz might be a better frequency as it is the emergency frequency and the 1/4 wave (24.3" 617mm) is only 1" (25.4mm) longer than 126.7 (23.31“ 592mm)
  14. Is a motor glider classified as a glider or as an aeroplane?
  15. Be careful what you wish for. You might ask where the money is being spent and are the fantastic plastics subsidising the rag and tube or the other way around.
  16. "Universal" in IT/Telecoms is a bit like "World Series" in baseball. Just because Apple and the USA call it doesn't make it so. MM/DD has the same sort of universality. 😇
  17. The GA people keep telling us that we don't need CTA access so the people transitioning to Group G can get away with a self declaration of their medical and put AvMed behind them - just like the vast majority of the RAAus membership.
  18. Or perhaps, CASA is the flypaper of aviation😡
  19. Try a shorter push on the on/off button. Mine turns on very quickly such that I put back in the case face down in case I accidentally turn it on as I push it into the case. A push of less than 2 sec. will activate mine. Height and speed should not impact the on state, but may impact whether the transmit state is active.
  20. Users of other EFBs will only see you if they have an ADSB-In connected and operational. Some EFBs may access and distribute position info but that info is not authoritative and may have holes, usually because the connections to the mobile network is dodgy.
  21. Did he have ADSB in or was he relying on a 3rd party product like flightradar24 or your operation of an EFB being broadcast to other users of that particular EFB system?
  22. There are 2 (or more) charger standards 1. QC - Qualcomm 2. PD - Apple? The SE2 conforms to the QC standard. Apples conform to the PD standard. If you want to "properly" power an SE2 (or Samsung kit) choose a QC compliant power pack. I have attached pics of 2 car chargers that have QC compliant ports and std USB -A ports. The white one also supports IOS but I'm not sure about the standard
  23. If your Mode S transponder has an active ADSB-Out you are not permitted to allow your SE2 to transmit ADSB-Out but you can receive. Enjoy the flying - the weather is stuffing us in the Sydney Basin.
