I've posted before on the virtues of LCH on my personal installation , They do keep the temps in check , I have a turret mounted 3300 . sizing the radiator and associated plumbing ads more complexity , I changed a couple of over flow pipes the other day and must have got some air in the system , and found i boiled the engine at 115 deg C , Messy but not catastrophic to the engine . Mine is a pusher and i didnt think an air cooled jab would be suitable . I know several instalations in j230 and these folk do far more hours than im doing at the moment , They are happy as larry with there engines . My beef is the fuel , mogas , that ,like rotax engines dont use avgas ! I've posted on this subject as well . Mike
  2. Ho Bruce , once the screws are out and cleaned up , i would screw them in by hand and feel how much " slop" between the screw and thread . There will be some slop , if you feel that it's excessive , i would get a second opinion . The loctite will take up that small amount of slop . I would not recomend assembly of jab flywheel to crank without it . These procedures are the way i do it and have removed& replaced at least 8 units over the years and have had no issues . This procedure is most critical and needs to be perfect , otherwise , trouble . Mike

I would add , that when applying the 620 Loc. that its used sparingly , and that TO MUCH in this case , will probably squeeze out onto the flange face , That face has to have No residue between the mating surfaces after tourqing . Just imagine one bolt squeezed loctite it the join and not the other , After tourqing i do a run out test with a dial indicator . A heat gun will not soften a cap screw , Engine rebuilt at jab have loctite 620 on big end caps . Mike
  4. It wont be long before airport operators have cameras that record every movement ,like police cars have rego reading . That will sort out false radio transmitions and will be enough to prove , or not , that you were there . Mike
  5. Does any one know how many aircraft the LAA administer ? After reading the above newsletters , seems a friendly , relaxed and informative organisation . The oil temp thermostat that i have for the 3300 was made in England and came with a "standard modification " issue 1 . Done by LAA . for use with the jabiru engine . Seems a far cry from our RAA us . Plenty of photos of problems and regular updates , I think our membership could take a leaf out of their book in an open reporting culture of issues without the emotive head banging that we seem to take for granted and the general lack of involvement from our members . Like i said before , the board members that post here , i feel i know , and they know me , I find it hard to swallow the "election pitch " that our prospective cantidates write about themselves in the mag . Doesnt really give the feeling of ; i know them now , ill vote for them " It would be better if they took the time to use this forum to get to know the membership , and us know them , It might improve the voter turn out . Hi Maj , i was refering to Andy , I was just about to post some thourghts on this matter ; You Maj , & Andy are the only two board members that ive got to know through this site , i have found your contributions to be at times most helpfull , in regards to grass roots involvment , timely and relevant info . This one on one communication is the way of the future and if Andy & yourself hold back because of fools and the such , then we just go back to sitting in the dark , To me , what constitutes good leadership is the ability to take hold of this format and work a way around the idiots who end up taking us all down . Time to get the thinking caps on and get around these posting issues , There must be a way of moderating negative feed back with all this technology . Nobody with half a brain suffers Fools Gladly , I beleive this forums on the Up , and to loose valued opinion ( no matter who argues what ) would be a tragedy . Mike

When folk do the upgrade to hollow pushrods , its important to make sure that if new bushes are fitted that their drill ed and cleaned so no crud or flakes of teflon remain to partialy block oil flow , as well as checking theres no residue swarf in the pushrods , I checked under the rockers after a ground run and then again after 15 hrs Mike Ps if there fitted and not ground run and then checked, i suggest you find someone else to do your maintainance

I removed my rockers after running hollow pushrods for 15 hrs after reading about this , I carnt see how oil doesnt lube the collit All looked fine , less oil than the old way , but thats a good thing , To much oil in the rocker gear ? No signs of ware or metal dust on the floor , where all the crud used to accumulate , Looked clean , runs great hyd , lifter , Ian bent says leave it alone . Mike

I hope i hope this doesnt mean that an incident report is required by law every time ive hit a cane toad while taxiing , Or the numerous other day to day things , like flat tyres or batteries , ect. I think if every operator of an ultralight DID bother to report every " incident " You'd need the combined burocrecy Of canberra to " file and reply ". Personly , in my time of aviation , and probly you to ,have heared of countless " incidents " that really dont need a form filled out and submitted . Mike .
  18. Ive had a bit of success with reversing the washer so the beveled edge faces in And the plunger sits on the sharpish edge , seems to seal itself better , Or try a new washer ? Old trick from Don at Jab Mike

Back in 97 at Bundaberg when jabiru were just kicking off they displayed one of the local pilots LSA55 at the shopping town about a klm up the main road from the airport , taxied up the road early with the wings off , set up for the day in the mall . Come 5 pm with an escort at either end proceeded to taxi out though the car park , and wouldn't you know it , traffic from everyware ! Waited for a break and made the dash back to airport drive , You realy have to be tight on the rudders , but could easy handle it at 40 k/h . They have heaps of grunt without the wings on .Stunned motorist , Do it today ? They'd put you in gaol . John Smith ( Alias )
