  1. I loved going Solo. It took me a little longer that average but then I have never been average according to my wife. I then passed my flying exam and thought I had become a pilot. i now am more nervous and cautious than ever. I will practice and practice and get in some hours before tackling the Navs. As someone on here said (your certificate is just a licence to learn) and boy have I got a lot to learn. Keep flying. Keep safe and we will all get there in the end in our own time.
  2. Flying in from Perth on Sunday but won't be back until late evening. Have a great day. The weather looks great for the day.
  3. Clowns. You are all clowns. LOL.
  4. Looking outside my office maybe I am glad I am leaving SA for somewhere else. Although the forecast is for Gale force winds and high seas out of Sydney on Friday. Oh well bucket in one hand and a beer in the other. Nothing wrong with that. LOL Take you up for a flight when I get back Mardy now it is legal. LOL
  5. I am 2 days away from getting on a cruise ship to travel around Australia and all I can think about is getting back so I can practice my circuits. I think I have a serious problem. Wonder if I can stay home and send the mother inlaw instead. LMAO
  6. Only if his balls explode. LMAO
  7. If i could rent a hangar space for $100 per month I would never build one. I am trying to build a hangar at the moment and I cannot believe the hassle you have to go to in a club to get a decision. It would be so much easier and cheaper to rent. The problem is there are no spaces to rent where i am.
  8. I believe they are going to show the guy jumping from space live tonight. Am I the only one that thinks this can only end very badly?
  9. The biggest problem was as soon as the nose went up the passengers all slid down the rear of the aircraft ensuring that they where doomed. At least it would have been a quick death.
  10. Hi Gareth, The weather up your way isn't looking good for the end of the week. You guys go on about sunny Queensland and when I decide to come up it is raining. Get your act together I want blue skies and warm thanks. LOL. Have you finished that aircraft yet? I am looking forward to getting my x country out of the way now as soon as I can. Started to learn today what thermals do to light weight aircraft. Bloody hard to keep a consistant altitude.
  11. No I got the aircraft now I have to take my wife on a cruise around Aust on a cruise ship. We will be away 3 weeks. Hope I can still fit into the Jab when we get home.
  12. I am building a hangar at Gawler. Cost $25k erected on site. Another $5k for other charges. $400+ fee to the club per annum. I have been asked if I want to share. I said yes for $100 per month and have been told that is way to expensive. For $25 per week I will happily keep my hangar to myself.
  13. Got my passenger endorsement yesterday and took my wife up for her first flight in our aircraft today. We went up for an hour in fairly lumpy conditions but she enjoyed the trip. It wasn't my best landing by a long way but we survived our first flight together. I hope now we can have many more. The aircraft gets parked in the back of the hangar now while we go away for a month.
  14. It really depends on what the hourly rate for training was and the facilities. If for instance you paid $400 per year membership and training was $100 per hour against a school charging $200 per hour with no club. You also need to look at the aircraft on offer and availability to book lessons when you need them. There is also a misconception about schools paying Instructors and this making lessons more expensive. I know of a school where the instructors are all volunteers but the school charges a fee for their services. Ofcourse schools have to remain viable or we have no where to learn. I think flying training is relatively cheap compared to some sports. try getting lessons from a golf pro.
  15. Congrats Sloper. Get that Couger finished and you will have some great flights. Well done.
  16. I have done MANY engine failures in both circuits and in out landings with an instructor. Doesn't mean I want to find out how it goes when the fan really stops. I did over 100 landings before going solo and probably 20 where practice engine outs. I have also logged thousands of ocean miles in both racing yachts and power boats. Doesn't mean I am not a little apprehensive every time I go out of sight of land. Sometimes the old term ignorance is bliss is quite true.
  17. Thanks OME. I wasn't singling your post out. I have to say quite honestly that i am really struggling to not be scared when I fly as a low hour pilot because to read endless stuff about jabirus is worrying. i went for a 2 hr flight last Monday and was waiting for the engine to stop the whole flight. I dont wish to berry my head in the sand but i also dont believe if a Jabiru was going to kill me so many of us would own them. I have just purchased a 170 and jabiru have sent over parts to replace the pistons and such due to the concerns about the circlips. They are not even sure if my engine is involved but have decided to get my engine rebuilt anyway. You wouldn't get that level of support from car companies. There are a lot of us very inexperianced pilots looking to you old hands for help. we dont need to be scared silly reading endless reports of how bad Jabirus are. Anyway enough ranting by me.
  18. I fly at Gawler. The school has 3 jabs. All get around 1000 hrs before changing engines. This is a school where aircraft get flogged most days by students like me doing hundreds of circuits. Get a life you lot I am impersonally tired of all the Jab bashing on this site. How many hours where flown last weekend across Australia in jabirus? How many engines failed? How many people have died in the last 5 yrs in jabirus full stop? How many other aircraft have to land out due to some kind of failure? As a new flyer and as a Jabiru owner you guys make me scared to fly. It seems if i fly long enough in my Jab I eventually will crash and burn. I really like this site and the contributions of the people on it but I am almost at the point of stopping coming here due to the alarmist nature and some of the political B.........T that has invaded this site lately.
  19. Channel 7 just said they are not holding out much hope now. God please don't let that be true. What a tragedy.
  20. Well done a great achievement. It is great to hear some good news for a change. The steady diet of doom and gloom is starting to get me down. Congratulations.
  21. I am surprised the personal EPIRB isnt sending unless it was never activated. I carry 2 but you do have to be able to activate them. I pray everyone is ok.
