  1. We're a soft target. Laurie
  2. Can someone who is running a Camit engine give some feedback as to how they are going? Laurie
  3. I did it in May 2006. It was done clockwise and had a great run of weather. Laurie
  4. I reckon one or more of these would be handy. Not too dear either. Laurie http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/fuel-bladder-20-litre-boating-and-4wd-/301079317501?pt=AU_Boat_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4619b9cbfd&_uhb=1
  5. Macguires Plast x. I've also successfully buffed mine with 3M glaze polish on a soft black foam pad. Laurie.
  6. Excellent honeymoon destination.
  7. Hope to be able to fly my newly completed bird to this do. Laurie
  8. Thanks fellas for the helpful replies. I can't help feeling a bit cranky about these ASIC things but rules are rules. Looks like I was missing something. Laurie
  9. I spoke to a local GA / RAAus instructor about a bi annual flight review the other day. He said that for a GA review he had to sight my current medical (understandably) AND a current ASIC card. This second requirement came as a surprise to me considering we would be flying at a non RPT airfield. I thought the ASIC relates to airport security and is only required if operating at an airport that has RPT. Secondly I would have thought that if an ASIC was required, being in company with an ASIC holder would satisfy this legislation. Am I missing something? Laurie.
  10. A few years ago I flew around Australia in a Jabiru with 8 other aircraft (Fly Away to Heaven organised by Fr John Fowles, Thurgoona NSW.) I did not have an ASIC but did have and AVID photo ID card. There were two places where anyone asked to see the ASIC card; Kalgoorlie where a groundsman requested to see it and when I produced the AVID he didn't have a clue. The second place was Merimbula where I believe the management have a vested interest in these cards. What we should have is a licence card with photo - works fine for car licences, why not for aircraft? Laurie
  11. The Jabiru UL450 is now at YLTV. Apparently the Jabiru count there is up to 22. Booked in for weight and balance next Sunday. Laurie
  12. The Jabiru UL450 is now at YLTV. Apparently the Jabiru count there is up to 22. Booked in for weight and balance next Sunday. Laurie
  13. Thanks for this post teckair, a valuable lesson for all to bear in mind. Laurie
  14. I If the carby slide stuck wouldn't the rpms have been higher than normal? Perhaps the next step would have been to cycle the throttle or better yet switch off the mags rather than flying the full length of the runway in ground effect? I once had an experience like this in a trike running out of strip with the motor idling a bit fast so switched off and stopped no worries. My mate did the same thing the next day, showing off to work mates on a golf course on dewy grass but didn't switch off. Ended up rolling the trike and putting it out of action for several months. Laurie
  15. Stuck throttle, mixture control and mag switches perhaps?
  16. Hope to have my UL450 in the air ASAP. Will need to fly off 25 hours within 25 miles so don't make it too soon. Laurie
  17. There's no reason the plane won't fly again. Dazzzza if you comment was directed at the pilot you may be forgetting that if you are lucky you may have a few flying years left in you. Laurie.
  18. G'day Ben. Probably catch up some time as I'm not far off flying my Jabbie out of Latrobe Valley. Laurie
  19. I had a nice folding prop on a power harness for hang gliding. Made by Bolly. 15 hp. Laurie Ps the harness was an 'Explorer' made by Bob Bauer in QLD.
  20. It was a Pitts S1 I believe. A bloke trying to set a new record for the most rolls done in a single flight. The record stood at 407. Apparently he did 900 but then the engine failed - possible inverted fuel system failure. I reckon it would also test the oil system too. Laurie
  21. I would have thought they'd be too hot for the RAA register - perhaps more examples of why we're under the microscope. Laurie
  22. I use an app called Oz Radar on my iPhone all the time. This overlay on Ozrunways is the same thing. It is very good and in my experience it is very accurate - generally. Laurie
