  1. Wishing all the forum folks and their families a happy, holy and safe Christmas and excellent new year. Laurie.
  2. I think the rocker mod reduces side loads on the valve stem thereby doing something about valve failure. Laurie BTW, is it a full moon?
  3. There are plenty of good paragliding schools here in Australia who do tandems. You might be better off saving your money and heading to Bright where three excellent schools operate. Most conduct two day introduction courses too. Laurie
  4. Jabiru struts are extruded in a faired shape. They are not a round tube fitted with a fairing therefore any holes drilled into the strut or addons must comply with Jabiru's engineer recommendations and approved practices. Regards, Laurie
  5. No Not really but certainly worth looking after and a great heirloom. Laurie
  6. There's a bit of a story behind that guitar. I was about 10 years old when my uncle bought it at Allans in Melbourne. My dad bought an accordian and his brother bought that guitar. On my 50th birthday he presented it to me to 'look after'. Awesome!
  7. Last week at Bright. Launched my Paraglider from Mystic, climbed to 4500', crossed the Wandilligong valley, got another climb to cross the next valley then worked my way up a spine to Pyramid where I topped out at 7200', crossed the tiger country into the Kiewa valley with another climb at Tawonga, across the Kiewa valley to Mt Emu where I got a climb to 7600' then glided north towards Dederang without getting another climb. Retrieved by other paragliding mates and had tea at Rois restaurant. Laurie.
  8. Hopefully on the final stages of construction of my Jabiru UL450. Painting in Stewart Systems waterborne progressing nicely.

  10. This is the best thing I have seen on the internet in ages. Excellent write up HITCs. Laurie
  11. Looks great but I'm in no hurry to try it! Upside down stuff in a hang glider that is...
  12. They all bite if you try hard enough. That said, if you learn to 3 point land a tail dragger properly, you will land a tricycle beautifully using the same technique.
  13. I too had a control line flying wing, a satan I believe it was called. Anyway I stacked it on its first flight due to pitch sensitivity then rebuilt it with a 3" extension for the elevator punting point. It flew great then and very fast compared to conventional types with a tail plane. Laurie
  14. Definitely after landing - when you realise you're not slowing at the rate you'd expect. Anyway it sounds like Merve has a heap of experience in the J160. I don't. My Jabiru experience is limited to an SP6. Laurie.
  15. A tail wind and high idle speed will certainly complicate things for you. Your landing roll could be reduced under these circumstances by switching the engine off - that will stop the thrust. Doing this saved me once in a trike :) Laurie
  16. A couple of things said in your posts concern me a bit speedy - 'the brakes worked during taxi' followed by 'there was no brake fluid at all'. Then you go on to say you used all the runway at Moorabin on landing - you may need some remedial work on landing speeds because from memory Moorabin's runways are pretty long. Laurie
  17. 1000' agl isn't really high enough for proper development of a thermal - still going to be pretty small. Even paragliding I don't like getting much below 3000' when flying cross country. Laurie
  18. Grandalph, you are wasting your time and energy engaging in conversation with FT. He insists on being anonymous and as such has zero credibility. Cheers, Laurie
  19. A mate has run 2 stroke oil at 200:1 in his C180 for many years as a supplementary lubrication. It has performed flawlessly to TBO. Laurie
  20. Alas, for emissions control they had to go to water cooling for tighter bore clearances to comply with exhaust emissions at cold start up - and they got heavier and slower while doing it and took years to get back to the same weigh and power levels, it's well documented. My GSX1250FA is watercooled, fairly large capacity, not terribly powerful (HP) but is very smooth and torquey. It's the nicest bike I've owned and can't get the silly grin off my dial every time I ride it. :) Laurie
