Could be wrong but that's what the ASI and tacho appeared to be displaying. Remember this was the first flight and maybe adjustments need to be made. Yes I too believe jabiru recommend running the engine hard.

With 2000' per minute and an easy cruise of 110 at 2200 rpm indicates to me that there is no problem with weird aerodynamics :) PS, I too like the centre control stick and throttle between the legs. Looks strange but my arms are on the side of my body and I find these controls ergonomics to be very comfortable. It can be exciting when the passenger kicks the throttle though! Laurie
  3. What I was alluding to is that there are other insidious was of suffering an engine failure due to fuel exhaustion - not just the fuel in the bowsers.
  4. I wonder does the Sav 'fail safe' fuel system solve the starvation by guncked up fuel filter engine failure? Laurie.
  5. It's interesting to note the strong criticism of Jabiru coming from people who appear to happily roar around in their 2 stroke Rotax powered aircraft. I have experienced several engine failures with these power plants (Pegasus Q trike Rotax 462, Avid Flyer Rotax 582 and a Lightwing Rotax 582 - seized). I have also flown around Australia in a Jabiru SP6 in company with two other Jabirus and apart from some ice induced rough running, no problems. I've now had two aircraft with Jabiru engines - no issues so far. It's true that you shouldn't stake your life on any mechanical device but we do. What we powered aircraft owner/operators need to do is be diligent when it comes to the operation and maintenance of ANY brand of aircraft engine. Arm ourselves with as much knowledge pertaining to the engine/aircraft we operate. Cheers, Laurie

Sounds like a great plan Emah. All we need now is decent paragliding weather. Laurie
  7. Yes, I believe Ben from West Sale has one (he has probably the best Waiex in the country). I also believe it is to be Lycoming 233 powered and has massive tundra tyres (or tires since it is an aMerican plane). Laurie
  8. Hi Mike, that link I put on this thread takes you to the medium filter at Skyshop for $42. Laurie BTW, the really small one I got has a big filter element like the big filter, just a smaller 'container' part. I'll send a photo.

I've always found it odd that people say the 6 is smoother than the 4. I've always felt that the 6 has more resonances and low frequency noise than the 4. This also applied to the Continental 0200 (4) and 0300 (6). Laurie
  10. Skyshop has them. http://www.skyshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=168
  11. Mr funnel has excellent filtration an a sump. You waste a little bit of fuel usually buy that's a small price to pay. They come in3 sizes. I have a small one in the aircraft at all times. Laurie
  12. I always use a mr funnel. Regards, Laurie
  13. G'day Steve, I've been working; that has impeded progress a bit. Soon on leave though. Hope to see you and Fr John soon too. Laurie

I have no experience at all in power chutes but you're welcome to come along with Rob to check out paragliding Geoff. Laurie

Hi Emah. Your dad has been showing a lot of interest in paragliding and he says you are keen too. I have some leave in August and plan to be doing a bit of paragliding. Laurie
  17. Beautiful work. I'd like to have a go at spinning up some wheel caps for my Jabbie. Laurie
  18. Clearly he had opportunity before entering cloud to turn away. Still once in the cloud his flight was stable. If he had the means to hold a steady course he would have ended up flying out of it.

No discernible washout in my UL450's wings. Just that introduced by recommended rigging of flaps and ailerons.

Depends on the relationship of parasitic drag to induced drag. At any given speed and load a long wing will have less induced drag than a shorter wing but more parasitic drag and vice versa. Laurie
  22. The beauty of the paraglider is that a lot of the important skills can by maintained by 'ground handling'. As with any flying I think it's important to regularly maintain your skills (that's what I tell my wife anyway!!). Not many paramotor pilots bother trying to thermal. I've heard of much older people continuing to fly paragliders but sticking mainly to nice laminar coastal air. PM me Phil if you are interested in having a phone yack in relation to this subject before we get growled at for thread drift! Laurie
