Which Trike would suit me best?
Keenaviator replied to Soleair's topic in Trikes and Microlight Aircraft Usergroup
150 metres with trees at both ends! You'll probably get away with it for a while as I did flying my Pegasus Quantum out of a 200 metre strip. In The end I decided that I wanted to continue to enjoy flying along with many other activities so moved to a proper strip. Laurie. -
Has anyone had problems with Jabiru 2.2 rear seals leaking
Keenaviator replied to Herm's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Can you check the runout of the crank? -
I had a Pegasus Q trike with Rotax 462. A factory option was electric carby heat. This was an aluminium collar heating element that surrounded the throat of the carby.

Are Jab engines prone to icing?
Keenaviator replied to Old Koreelah's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
My experience with my c150 was that it was more prone to carby ice on mogas. Yes, it had a mogas STC. -
Are Jab engines prone to icing?

Apparently mogas is more prone to carby ice than avgas - something to to with volatility or boiling point? -
Thanks for your report, especially the info on the RSL and Goondawindi's nice terminal.

Hey, I'm a sheep going off the edge of a cliff! Is it a parachute? No it's a paraglider (there is a parachute under the seat for emergencies though).

Looks like you got it anyway Sapphire!

The definition of ignorant is someone who lacks knowlege, such as yourself.... Crikey Fred! If you actually read my post you'll see that I was supporting your argument. I am not criticising your choice of aircraft. You might even be surprised at the variety of aircraft I happily fly. Shessh.....
-
If you haven't tried it how the bloody hell would you know? I think you've just given us the definition of 'ignorant'.
-
You wouldn't get me in one of those things! Definition of 'one those things' - anything someone else flies that is different to what I fly which is obviously more dangerous than my chosen flying machine..... Funny how the most ignorant are the best critics!

" took off, flew around and landed unassisted" - sounds like you don't need lessons! Good luck.

ultra-light plane crash near Bairnsdale
Keenaviator replied to skeptic36's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
I don't think so since super cats are low wing. This was a high wing like a Karaone. There was a Karaone built at Yarram a few years ago and it had a 1600 Jabbie. -
Looks like the seat belt is not properly adjusted and fastened but who's complaining?

ultra-light plane crash near Bairnsdale
Keenaviator replied to skeptic36's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
I read a report that said it was a high wing aircraft with a 1600 Jabiru engine. Laurie -
How many Jabiru engines are there in service? Probably 7000 or more. My point is that this is the first time I have heard of an induction manifold coming loose on a Jab. Clearly something was missed during re assembly after the bulk strip like loctite and correct torque setting. Not good and whoever signed it out at Jabiru will be getting a rocket no doubt! Gentreau, you can safety wire cap-head screws - take a look at the exhaust manifold screws on any 2 stroke Rotax. Cheers, Laurie

Very well done. A nice collection of shots.

What is 1.3 times the full flap stall speed of the J170? If it is 52 knots it appears you may be having to wait for 8 knots to wash off while you are in ground effect. Being within one wing span of the ground gives something like a 30% reduction in drag thereby increasing the time it takes for excess speed to wash off. Do you really need 65 knots over the fence?

No Geoff, not much powered flying these days although I did give Mel Dougherty's Jab SP6 a run a couple of weeks ago after his fitting of Rotec water cooled heads. I sold my Starlet (pictured) back in November last year but there is light at the end of the tunnel - a Jabiru UL 450 project that I took on in March. That's coming along in my shed. This was an unfinished project so even though 12 years old, still brand new. Cheers, Laurie.

Hi Geoff, Davids 701 will certainly benefit from some tlc. Are you still just south of the pistol club? Laurie

Jabiru Service Bulletin JSB033-1 Piston Circlips Jabiru 2200 and 3300 Engines
Keenaviator replied to Admin's topic in Jabiru
I believe the clips are not faulty, just that some when installed, may have been damaged by closing them more than necessary thereby stressing them. -
Are they silver switches? I suspect they could be the same as those in my Jabbie UL450.

Looks like I hit a nerve! Oh well....
