  1. Heh? What makes you say that?
  2. I must have suffered a brain bubble because I can't make sense of your post. Can you 'expand it' for me? And type slowly because I'm a slow reader...😄
  3. Me (VK5KKS) and at least two others I know about.
  4. The morse sent from the navaids was so slow you didn't need to know the code. A good pilot would simply have a cheat sheet, listen to the code (da da da di di dit dah di dah dah - that's MBY). I learnt morse to get my Ham Radio Licence and never used morse since. Note how morse is 'spoken' Dits and Dahs not dots and dashes.
  5. I have only accumulated about 800 hours in 40 years. House to pay off, UNI/TAFE fees to pay off, and whores must have their trinkets. Oh, and owning a plane and hangar.
  6. I was taught low flying, two things were made very clear, turns during low flying can make it appear you a skidding if there is wind and check and recheck for power lines and rising ground.
  7. I learned a new word today - 'sophistry'. At least I did know what an allotrope was. ☺️ Nothing to do with new owners of jabiru aircraft but what the hey...
  8. Yes, I was in London in 1980 and the transport systems were great. I was also young and fit enough for fight or flight in the event of some asshole wanting to rob or bash me. These days with the nutters and druggies and other garbage out there I just wouldn't feel safe.
  9. Where and when did Gina say $4 a day is enough for a worker?
  10. I can see this coming; In order to obtain proof of identity you have to have proof of identity in order to obtain proof of identity ...........
  11. On the CASA website. "You need an ASIC if you're flight crew flying at a security controlled airport, or a pilot under the age of 18. It allows you to operate at any airport in Australia."
  12. if you claim to be a 'sovereign citizen' can you ignore the ASIC? 😝
  13. I may be wrong but I understand that if you have a 'glass cockpit' you must have ASI and ALT as steam gauges as well, or have a backup glass screen.
  14. The question about getting parts like distributors, rotor buttons, ignition coils, spark plugs and leads etc. was raised. There was the mention by a club member that these parts may become hard to source as engines become more 'modern'. The very thing about Jabiru engines is their simplicity, when we start getting engines with electronic fuel injected whizz bang technology we start to lose the ability to service and repair. We have all seen it in the automotive industry, home appliance industry etc. God help us if AI ever becomes involved.
  15. OKTYVM (ok, thank you very much...)
  16. On Saturday 18th November the NEW OWNER of Jabiru will be visiting the Gawler Flying Club at around 2pm. So, come and visit if you can...
  17. If you land and don't cross the fence, refuel, check the oil, clean the wind screen, you won't get challenged at all. If you cross the fence you won't get challenged. It's when you try to get back to the plane you might get challenged. That's how I understand it. Some folks think you cannot land without an ASIC, which is bollocks.
  18. Yea, when I was flying I never had an ASIC and when challenged, stayed polite and asked for assistance. Tell them you're 'special' and they might understand...
  19. Maybe AI? One of the most over-rated, misunderstood and dangerous technologies emerging today. Like the robo-debt disaster, many people will be 'guilty' of speeding, using phones while driving, not wearing seat belts because some AI software says so. I spent 20 years writing software for Defence and have seen some pretty amazing stuff, but I reckon it's still years before we can truly trust AI. Hands up those who would fly in a pilotless plane today....
  20. Folks who don't indicate when leaving a round-a-bout should have their faces set on fire, then put out with a shovel.
  21. Morgan Sierra - is that the plane with the vastly under-rated nose gear that collapses far too easily?
  22. As the population ages more cars run into shops fronts because the drivers are so old, maybe we can expect much the same with planes? Just a thought.
  23. Back in August (I think) there was a plane doing those flight patterns over Adelaide but, nothing on flight radar, ATSB exchange or OzRunways. It was quite high and using binoculars didn't help identify it.
  24. Yes, it IS too complicated. We have courses run at our club every now and then to make sure folks are up to date. Like a lot of things these days, new technology meets old age and gnashing of teeth and swearing results. This link might help
