  1. Rocket fuels do age. The RAAF have fired off a few missiles that are near 'end of life'. Sometimes I think countries go to war just to use up their aging stock because let's face it, having a zillion dollars worth of fun things and then never using them is just awful.
  2. I read somewhere many years ago that most folks would remain in their seats rather than jump from a plane with a parachute. I would agree, especially if the plane is setup in a quiet glide while the pilot looks for a place to land. Maybe if the wings were on fire the passengers would rather jump. As for ballistic chutes, are they really ballistic? That can be an incredibly dangerous thing to have if not treated with respect. I would have thought a chute would be pulled out by a drone chute that is spring loaded. That's what we had when I was doing a few jumps 40+ years ago.
  3. As a long time member of "Sex without Partners" I have witnessed many members being expelled for breaking the rules. 🤪
  4. I threw away the cheap crappy Chinese device and made my own using a three terminal regulator (7805). Worked a treat for what I needed.
  5. When I was working I used to do a lot of flying against the FA18 and they never used ADSB. Zooming around with your balls on fire in R279 brings back memories. I guess when the area is active the use of ADSB is not needed?
  6. There's also the ambihelical nut. It's strange because you undo it to tighten it.
  7. If you want to fly bigger planes, get a pilot licence. Leave the recreational stuff to 600kg MTOW. It's not rocket science.
  8. Having the best welfare system in the galaxy, why work? Just sit on your bum and do nothing and get paid. Then folks complain because 'foreigners' come here, see the opportunities and jobs and jump at them. Vote me in as King Kevin and things would change in a flash.
  9. Well, let's hope they don't dumb down the requirements for obtaining an instructor rating. It's bad enough with teachers, doctors etc.
  10. "receive" not "recieve". i before e except after c. 😐
  11. If a 'sovereign citizen' is not subject to the law of the land, then they are not protected by the law of the land. Give him a good hiding I say.
  12. When I flew my jabiru back from Bundaberg to Gawler in 2009 I stopped at Broken Hill for fuel and a coffee. Nobody asked to see an ASIC and the gates were NOT locked. If anybody had tried to stop me getting back to my plane, it would have made the news.
  13. One of the problems with our Government and its various departments is that the folks running them and employed by them are not necessarily qualified. They are there because they know somebody, or because of their gender or because they are pretty good with other talents.
  14. I watched that, made me very angry. Too many pilots flying about that should not be. And to be in that condition as a charter pilot is criminal.
  15. I was playing about with VR when I was still working. Oculus Rift comes to mind. Anyway, I had to stop because I became quite nauseous. You can actually become car sick or airsick playing with that stuff.
  16. Take a BEX and have a lie down for half an hour. Works for me!
  17. It appears to have fuel caps on the wings, LSA55 did not have wing tanks. Correct me if I'm wrong. (which is extremely rare)...
  18. We have folks leaving school with rudimentary math and writing skills because some clown decided the kids will use computers. Anybody see those two women, senators I believe who struggled to calculate the total cost of buying 4 widgets at $4.15 each. One managed after a minute or so, the other had no idea. Dumbing down will be our undoing...
  19. I find it hard to see how one would 'slip through' the seat belt and hard to believe somebody went through the windscreen. But having said that, I find it hard to believe folks think the Earth is flat. 😒
  20. Well at 500' your with the birds and if the engine quits, you're options are limited. I like height, out of the bumps, less chance of bird strike and time to act if the rubber band breaks.
  21. One should always fly right of track so if two planes are flying the same track, in opposite directions and are at the same altitude, they should pass each other.
  22. You might find this amusing...
  23. Years ago I watched a baby giggling as a big hairy huntsman spider was running about, the kid even tried to pick it up. Fear of spiders is a taught (by our parents) fear, like many others. Fear is normal as is worry. They are one of nature's way of self preservation. It's when fear and worry become overwhelming or irrational that things fall apart. Just growing old brings new fears and worries as we become less able to deal with crap that as a younger person, would be easy.
  24. A link to the flipped plane... https://www.airhistory.net/photo/27966/VH-ASV
