CASA already lets you use Ozrunways (i.e. as a MAP), you still need to know where you are on the map though (the little plane icon helps).
Edit: I should add, the same device that runs your Ozrunways, will also load the online magazine.
I would not be happy to pay an extra $90 a year onto of my membership because some people choose (for what ever reason) not to access the magazine online. I did the survey regarding this issue and also made sure my rep plus other board members were aware of my opinion.
Besides the rants on here bull, what contact have you made with the Board or Management regarding your concerns?
I'm sure he safely checks NOTAMS and Weather before each flight too.
Any "safety issue" should be addressed on the RA-AUS website or by direct email to members, not wait 6 weeks for the next version of the magazine (paper or electronic).
Shouldn't the skills you are looking for in a Cert IV already be included in what's required to train and gain an instructors rating?
If a court or lawyer was to ask what certification a particular instructor has, surely the answer would be an instructors rating issued by the governing body (i.e. RA-AUS or CASA)?
Sorry Bruce, i must have missed the evidence of X number of deaths per flying hours and the fact Gawler has Y amount of hours a year.
29 deaths in 29 months is just that. On average over the past 29 months we have had 1 death a month. Unless you look further into the stats you can't claim it not to happen because you haven't had any at your local airfield.
You are talking about an Industry with a great deal of money to spend on such systems vs a recreational activity. Not a fair comparison and a whole different duty of care.
Couldn't that be considered the same here? We don't have Class E airspace other then under class C so you'd always need the transponder even if we want to those "rules"
The only thing I see in the article (if the link is the same one i read earlier today), is that a CASA official who earlier said in the "US they don't give such information" is now saying, "yes your right that's what they do". No where did i see any suggestion from CASA that this is changing in Australia.
Isn't this the whole role that Flight Service used to provide but was canned under Dick? Now he wants the fire fighters out giving flight briefings?.
Saying that Radar is available at 8500, is a long shot from claiming a Radar service could be provided to the ground at any particular aerodrome. We could try ADSB but we know how Dick feels about that.
Patrick, I believe TAAATS makes the conversion from the pilots transponder altimeter to the "displayed" altitude based on what QNH is set in the system, whether that's area or actual would I guess depend what sector/airspace you have.
I used the link and viewed in iBooks on the iPad and had no problems with he magazine quality, I did need to zoom in on a few of the larger articles that had a bit to read. Overall happy with the digital version and look forward to seeing some of the new changes to make the most out of the new format.
One concern I do have was it was mentioned it would be released around the 10th of each month, to time in with the arrival of the paper version to people's letter boxes. Besides the cost saving, I had hoped the digital version would mean the information covered wouldn't need to be 2 months old by the time we got to read it.
Basically there is 200ft tolerance, if you come up at 800ft when you should be at 500ft you'll be queried and if you report your altitude at 500ft then you'll be asked to turn off your Mode C as it's giving errors. Sometimes they may let you know when it's 200ft out as a friendly suggestion to get it checked.
Best of luck finding the problem and I'm sure ATC would be more then happy to provide read out checks when not busy.
where does the term "self cancelling" come from, I don't see it in the instrument, it does however mention and expirey date, along the same lines that the CAOs have, surely we aren't expecting them to just expire?
And rumours he is starting his own political party based on population control (through immigration rather then birth control).
It does seem to be very much his way or you suffer his constant attacks. He gives just as much as he gets.
After reading the reference, I don't understand what they are on about, if anything the rules are more relaxed in that all you need to do is remain clear of controlled airspace, nothing (in AIP) prevents skirting the boundary.
The Members Market Advertising is for the aircraft ads members put in, there is still no details on how much is made from Companies who pay for Ads each month and whether that brings down the amount RA-AUS pays. I don't think it does which would be something that should be looked at come re-contracting time.
Does anyone here have an Ad in the magazine (other then aircraft classifieds)? How much does it cost you per issue. How close would we be to making back that $400k we spend on advertising sales if the proceeds went back into the association.
It's all great to have commercial in confidence, but any member can go into the office (with notice) and request to see ANY document of the association, this would include any contracts it has signed with other companies. Shame the same principle can't be done online.
The way it was explained to me was RA-AUS pay an amount per member to have the magazine produced and mailed out. Any money the publisher gets from selling ads in the magazine went into their pocket. This could be completely wrong, the only way to confirm would be directly with the CEO.
I believe RA-AUS pays an amount for the company to produce and mail out the magazine, any advertising raised goes straight to that company. I have no idea why it would have been setup this way or when it could be changed (contract periods), but surely another more favourable arrangement could be made in the future (i.e. RA-AUS produce the mag to the printers and collect the advertising).
Sad news to hear you are leaving the board Andy, although I'm sure we all understand personal life comes before public office. Thanks for all your hard work getting us moving in the right direction and best of luck with the job search. Will you still be involved in the RAA IT steering committee/advisers? Maybe RA-AUS needs to employ an IT officer...
Yet both CFI's will still get a copy... How can you claim the magazine is the best way of getting info to ALL members when it's almost 2 months old when it arrives. Where do you get your Weather and Notam information from?
Insurance isn't an option, it's a requirement put in by CASA. Have a look at the Deed of Agreement.
Those who wanted to keep flying would convert to the RPL and aircraft owners go VH, or another body gets the CASA nod to takeover. Either way it would be costly for the membership.
