  1. You are correct , and in this incident they did give a fair mount of information for a preliminary report. Maybe some reason eg. many recent fatal base/final turn incidents . Also note the fact that the accident occurred over six months ago and the investigation is still only 60% complete . The other thing that I have mentioned on these forums , and highlighted in this Mudgee report ,is the importance of turning on the GPS even for short local flights , a big help for the investigations team .....Bob .
  2. Teck, assuming you are referring to our latest fatality , even if the ATSB were doing the investigation it would be unlikely that anything would be published this early , unless , in the unlikely event , it was deemed to be a matter of general safety concern to pilots . Some ATSB investigations have taken many months or even years before a final report issued . This investigation and subsequent process to Coroners Inquest must be allowed to take its course however long it takes . We just have to wait . You can however ,be assured that the team conducting the investigation - your fellow RAAus pilots, are well resourced ,trained and professional in their approach and , in my opinion , are the best people to assist in the investigation ....... Bob
  3. Flicking a switch to operate flaps, takes away the 'feel' of effort required pilots with manual flap operation experience ....... Bob
  4. Or the one out of Camden maybe ..... Bob
  5. Thanks Ben . Still cheaper through RAAus, if you are a member ..... Bob
  6. Can't find it Yenn . Do you have a link ? ..... Bob
  7. Agree Sam . I was just about to post that the vast majority of Jabs are white ,which is a factory recommendation . I can only ever recall seeing one other than white, and that was in Bundaberg many years ago ..... Bob
  8. You're right mate ,these things are very sensitive. For example , you just called him ' Windor' and only gave 'informative' one of these...' ........ Bob
  9. Wasn't even aware of it . IPad sensitivity ...... Now removed .
  10. Takes a long while for the oil to drain back fully Russ . I do the same , and usually add 50 or more mls. before next leg , knowing full well most of it soon goes into the overflow bottle , as jetjr says . A bit of a 'feel good' exercise I guess ,but I just don't feel comfortable leaving on a two hour leg with oil barely registering on the stick ..... Bob
  11. Yes Kaz , I also often think about those who didn't return, many still in their teens . My father was captured by the Japanese at Milne Bay when his Catalina caught fire and went in (Feb 1943 ).The entire crew were executed . I was born three months later to a still grieving widow .I will be marching with what's left of the Catalina boys in Melbourne on Anzac Day...Bob
  12. Not really my last flight but , as things have gone a bit quiet here, thought I might post a few pics from a few years ago . On climb to around 7500' ,tracking North from Bairnsdale toward the dividing range . Looking down the valley toward Bright/Porepunkah tracking Yarrawonga.
  13. Acceptable to who Russ ? Yeah I know what you mean , I would consider 50ml or more / hour needs investigation . May just be sticking rings and certain oil additives may help , if used strictly as directed ..... Bob
  14. Reported as a HGFA registered w/s microlight ....... Bob

  16. A little off thread I know , but the latest from Jabiru ...... " As we keep saying the Research and Development never stops here at Jabiru. For the last 4 years the Jabiru engineers have been working on the development of the “2210” engine. It’s exciting news!!! There is still work to be done but we are edging closer to the possible launch of this new engine. We are planning to initially release it as an experimental engine. Eventually there will also be a six cylinder released as well. We have now accumulated just over 800 hours in test time and it is performing well. The engine has non corrosive aluminium cylinders with nickel and silicon carbide bores. These cylinders have three times the thermal conductivity of steel and the bores have very low friction and high wear resistance. The cast cylinders are more robust than the steel cylinders we currently use. We will keep you updated on the progress......... in the meantime we have attached some pictures for you of the “2210”
  17. Sorry Russ didn't see your response until after I posted ....... Bob
  18. If it's the head tank fuel drain ,then isolate the fuel from each wing tank into it ( clamp, plug or whatever to stop fuel flow ) ,then the most you should lose is the 5 or so litres in the head tank . I'm not sure where your head tank is located . Early Jabs had the tank under the passenger seat and the drain accessible from underneath , they also had isolating c:cks from each wing tank .I think the later 24 Regd. Jabs had the head tank behind the passenger seat . Be careful when removing the drain not to disturb the female part which is glassed in ......... Bob
  19. Flew along the 90 Mile Beach a few days ago to YORB , located on the coast at Marlo . Burn offs were being conducted by Dept of Resources limiting visibility . Unusually busy for YORB , with Cessna 337 for fire personnel ,air ambulance for patient transfer and Piper Tomahawk from Bairnsdale ....... Bob . .............. and , if things turn nasty !
  20. Sorry Harry I meant to say , "register with AMSA , rather than ATSB " ....... Bob
  21. You could try selecting "other " for State and 1234 for postcode . As a last resort you could ring but try the easy way out first . I assume the Rockwell has an emergency beacon fitted ,if not you will need one and have it registered with the ATSB ...... Bob
