I never cease to be amazed with the ongoing and varied opinions regarding RPC holders entering controlled or military airspace . There should be no doubt whatsoever, that a holder of a RPC , without no other relevant qualifications and endorsements , is guilty of an offence by entering active restricted airspace . It is not the responsibility of the controller to ask you bona fides , but your responsibility to know the limits of your certificate. .Be under no illusion you are committing an illegal act ...... I usually say " today should be pretty smooth but, if you feel a little queasy tell me and I'll go back ", sometimes just saying this gives them the feeling that they have some control over the flight duration . Better to be forwarned and, depending on your assessment ,it may be time to hand them a bag ... just in case , but best not to stray too far from base ...... Bob

Nobody , as has been stated ad nauseam by me and others on this site and elsewhere , we really haven't found any new ways to kill ourselves over the past 50 years , we just keep making the same mistakes over and over again , and 98% of those mistakes are related to Human Factors . Fair question Sam , I think I would run that question past the Manager or ARO at the airport in question . I guess that in the end it is his decision, but I seem to recall that visitors can be issued with a VIC card ( for visitors ) but must be escorted by a valid ASIC holder .....Bob

As an example I have just finished anaesthetising for a bariatric surgery list. Fat people having weight reduction surgery. High risk because obesity causes all sorts of problems. My last patient - a 55 year old 150 kg adult male with severe heart trouble ( each beat only pushes out 45% of what it should) he has poorly controlled diabetes and doesn't even check his own sugars ( never done a single self check though at least daily is the expected standard of self care). He has moderately severe lung trouble, drinks to excess and smokes. Mmm , we are told that we must be non - judgemental about these things , however some don't seem to realise the consequences of their actions , or non actions , regarding a responsible attitude toward their own health. I admire you Jaba and your professional colleagues , for showing the compassion that you do, often in difficult circumstances .... Bob

Yes a real surprise Bill , one wonders where it will end, I guess the downside is spending more time fiddling and not looking outside . You will need a cellular signal though so , if relying on wifi iPad with external GPS and not having it tethered to iPhone , it will not work.... that's my reading of it ! .... Bob
