  1. Naips to comply with regs. And bom new meteye setup. Gives a forecast for two or three days ahead for locations along track.
  2. Is there avgas at Warwick. Bowser operational yet? Any tips to going into Warwick. Times it's busy etc.
  3. Perhaps switch to Bne / melb centre and ask if any traffic conflict in vicinity your height of xyz. Cannot hurt to ask. More and more adsb about so the info is getting quite detailed.
  4. The first impression is the big one. If you are a person where english is your second language get the non verbal right. Go shake hands with a number of people men and women you know and ask for feedback on what the handshake told them about you. You will be surprised. I never made up my mind to employ on the handshake intro but if I didn't like the handshake I certainly was cautious and probed the previous employers about conduct that bit more. By didn't like I mean it was too strong /weak, or they looked away, or they stood in my personal space, the hand was on top of mine instead of Side by side, they stared me down etc. a friendly warm open demeanour is a great start to an interview. The handshake and associated body posture and eye contact tell an enormous amount about your approach to people and if you will fit into the team.
  5. Maybe consider swag with inbuilt mossie net which is also good for keeping out flies too. Small brush to get dust, burrs off swag before reloading into aircraft. Easy to set up and Pack up. Headlamp, thongs ..essential for grotty shower ..thermos..big indestructible cup, spoon, leatherman, PLB.
  6. Turbo, I am wading Through the new regs. 91 is the general rules of the air re write and i agree it should be required reading an knowledge regardless of what you fly. The new reg is generally clear plain english and not the usual convoluted cross ref stuff. Now 133, air work, passenger transport regs they are a nightmare to read. Pathetic but I still don't know , because the legalese was so dense, whether they propose you can do airwork without an aoc.
  7. Hi andy, you referred to this in a post. What is it and where do you get it. I am guessing its an app. Sounds useful for flight following. Thank you choc
  8. So you can load the points into google earth? Is that what you are saying? You have it as kml? A garmin GPS can be plugged into a computer and the points and tracks downloaded from gps to google earth and saved in kml or gpx format, so I am guessing google earth lets you do the other way. I am not near my computer so can't check this at the moment for you. Alternatively check out ie google DNR GPS. This free application is the easiest way to download tracks and waypoints from a garmin device offline. Save as gpx or kml, Then go to google earth and open the download in googl earth. Upload works too. Let me know how you get on.
  9. Hi. Any avgas? Or is gundie the nearest with callout fee no doubt as a weekend day? Can you camp at airfield. Any showers? Nearest pub accom? distance to said pub? Thank you.
  10. you have to wonder why there is a controller at coffs at all. port mac and certainly ballina are just as busy with rpt, raa, heli training and active aero club flyins.
  11. Kgwilson , yes insurance leaches are an issue. however, watch out you don't get distracted by the insurance bogeyman. It's easy to get waylaid from a discussion by the but what if.. The facts are for this thread discussion that a person went on a supposed tif that would be better described as a scenic flight. This happened imho because we are so over regulated ie it costs way too much to meet the legislative requirements, as they are RPT gold standard. so all sorts of adapt and innovate wording gets tossed about. and this is only the tip of the iceberg of the dodgy word twisting of charter, aerial work, pvt v commercial story. what do i want ...a pilot training and aircraft maintenance standard appropriate to the likely risks of a scenic flight. to go and make a few dollars to meet the costs of flying. passengers to be educated that flight has some level of risk to their personal safety (like everything in every second of life), so accept the risk and fly or not. .sign waiver here. appropriate regs and oversight..ie very little needed in the case of scenics that meetr xyz parameters. i ride horses, and when i got to an ag show i sign a waiver acknowledging there is some risk in riding horses. ag shows then dont have to pay exhorbitant insurance rates. imho scenics should be the same. casa is made up of people trying to do their best for aviation. the casa people have some influence over pollies but i can assure you a pollies constituants have far more say over what happens than a public servants views. casa did put out a disussion paper on scenics about two years ago. . last time i check about six months ago it had been put on the backburner and now with a review in progress (read organisation in paralysis mode..oh we cant do blah blah anything new cause we are under review) i dont expect it to see light of day for years to come. int the meantime we will continue to have poor risk management of rec and ga activities, over regulation, high compliance costs, slow death by age attrition of rec and GA industry.
  12. Quote : we put on our GA hat. meaning the only difference in the safety of the flights is ..what? different cap.? so you went up under a whole set of rules designed for RPT. that didnt make the flight safer. the scenic side is completely over regulated at great cost to the public and the aviation industry as a whole. IMHO. the GA industry (scenics, utility, charter) stagnated because of over regulation and the costs that entails. seems recreational is next in line for over regulation. solution : set of guidelines like USA would be something like... register your scenic flight activity online. the online form tick a box to say route to be flown, VFR tick, take off and return to departure pt within 50 nm radius tick, will not be entering CTA tick, less than say 6 pax tick, no higher than xx tick, transponder and radio on board tick. tick boxes..print or save to ipad. .end of story. result : enjoy flying, have happy pax paying a reasonable price, vibrant aviation industry. young pilots with a decent paying entry and progression path. you know..that aussie edge over the rest of the world, innovation, work ethic, etcc cannot be legislated but legislation can certainly suppress it.
  13. i would ring goondi. i did not get callout fee last time i was there and he kindly took me to motel. also st george has jones air - very helpful. 07 4625 5366 weekdays.
  14. hi. in the same boat with a pesky hill. what aerial and where did you get it from pls?
  15. $50 to do upgrade and it does a I diagnostic to see if there are software upgrades needed /available. Wouldn't be without it as the ipad goes belly up with overheating so often (qld).
  16. Curious. About how far from ipad to transponder?
  17. so happy i bought a second set for my pax to enjoy the excellent quality sound, light comfy headset. good passive when anr batteries fail. enjoy.
  18. Yes, You can justify spending a thousand dollars..!,!..you get no second chance with your hearing"""!!!! Don't be thinking of anr without good passive rating as well...batteries failing is very ver likely with anr. If you have to go within half a metre of someone to shout to be heard you are in a situation of it being well over the 85db limit and your hearing is likely being damaged. ..so basically that means just about every aviation situation is putting your hearing at risk. Investigate anr a bit too..dr google has lots of info. The jury is still out on whether anr is a good thing or not.
  19. Then there is AIP GEN 7 traffic information broadcast by aircraft. With acronym of course..TIBA. Cross reference with PCA that shows estimated VHF coverage below 5000'. Pretty good coverage...someone is gonna hear that mayday. So when would 126.35 get used? And who would be listening.
  20. Agree with you Metalman about it shouldn't be a guessing game. however what is a VCA please?
  21. Ok, not in ctaf, paddock strip lets say. Airstrip aerodrome more than ten miles away but within 30 miles. What freq to use... A mate says he just uses multicom all the time. I think!,the aip says use area freq but in my hilly area I can't see that as too useful. Hands off controls in first or last five mins of flight to change freq not an option. So the rules say....what. Exactly. Then what do you really do...go along with multicom as primary freq?
  22. Don't write of the aera 500 without giving it a go. It's portable. I e small. But reliable, doesn't fall over with hot conditions like the ipad does. And personally I use the auto for city driving and find I quite handy being able to switch between the two. The aviation updates are two x $50 per year so not that expensive. Never needed an external antennae..found it works just fine. Probably ask here and someone will have one for sale! Don't know what the prob with audio is..just switch it off. IMHO ok for the money and very reliable as a great back up to the ozrunways. Had a look at a 795 yesterday and don't think they are worth the 2100 dollars however.
  23. heat of combustion couldnt get aways ... huh that what happened to me yesterday and many other truck drivers at about 4 pm on toowoomba range hwy. first time i my life i have red lined any engine but i wasnt alone ...there were trucks ducking and diving into laybys to cool off all up the road.
  24. Thanks for app info. Tested it and got amberly....160 nm away and ozrunways av me a much closer 10 nm airport . Think I will stck to ozrunways!
  25. Tafgraf.. New app. Very quick taf for favourite locations.
