  1. When you occasionally have a really bad day, and you just need to take it out on someone, don't take it out on someone you know, take it out on someone you don't know. I was sitting at my desk when I remembered a phone call I'd forgotten to make. I found the number and dialled it. A man answered, saying 'Hello.' I politely said, 'This is Jack. Could I please speak with Robyn Carter?' Suddenly a manic voice yelledout in my ear 'Get the right damn number!' and the phone was slammed down on me. I couldn't believe that anyone could be so rude. When I tracked down Robyn's correct number to call her, I found that I had accidentally transposed the last two digits. After hanging up with her, I decided to call the 'wrong' number again. When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled 'You're an asshole!' and hung up. I wrote his number down with the word'asshole' next to it and put it in my desk drawer. Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day, I'd call him up and yell, 'You're an asshole!' It always cheered me up. When Caller ID was introduced, I thought my therapeutic 'asshole' calling would have to stop. So, I called his number and said, 'Hi, this is John Smith from Telstra. I'm calling to see if you're familiar With our Caller ID Program?' He yelled 'NO!' and slammed down the phone. I quickly called him back and said, 'That's because you're an Asshole!' and hung up. One day I was at the store, getting ready to pull into a parking spot. Some dick in a black BMW cut me off and pulled into the spot I had patiently waited for. I hit the horn and yelled that I'd been waiting for that spot, but the idiot ignored me. I noticed a 'For Sale ' sign in his back window, so I wrote down his number. A couple of days later, right after calling the first asshole (I had his number on speed dial,) I thought that I'd better call the BMW asshole, too. I said, 'Is this the man with the black BMW for sale?' He said, 'Yes, it is.' I asked, 'Can you tell me where I can see it?' He said, 'Yes, I live at 34 Marine Parade, in Wynnum, and the car's Parked right out in front.' I asked, 'What's your name?' He said, 'My name is Don Hansen.' I asked, 'When's a good time to catch you, Don?' He said, 'I'm home every evening after five.' I said, 'Listen, Don, can I tell you something?' He said, 'Yes?' I said, 'Don, you're an asshole!' Then I hung up, and added his number to my speed dial, too. Now, when I had a problem, I had two assholes to call. Then I came up with an idea. I called asshole #1. He said, 'Hello.' I said, 'You're an asshole!' (But I didn't hang up.) He asked, 'Are you still there?' I said, Yeah.' He screamed, 'Stop calling me.' I said, 'Make me.' He asked, 'Who are you?' I said, 'My name is Don Hansen.' He said, 'Yeah? Where do you live?' I said, 'Asshole, I live at 34 Marine Parade , in Wynnum . I have a Black Beamer parked in front.'He said, 'I'm coming over right now, Don. And you had better start saying your prayers.' I said, 'Yeah, like I'm really scared, asshole,' and hung up. Then I called Asshole #2. He said, 'Hello?' I said, 'Hello, asshole.' He yelled, 'If I ever find out who you are...' I said, 'You'll what?' He exclaimed, 'I'll kick your ass.' I answered, 'Well, asshole, here'syour chance. I'm coming over right now.' Then I hung up and immediately called the police, saying that I lived at 34 Marine Parade, in Wynnum, and that I was on my way home to kill my gay lover. Then I called Channel 9 News about the bikie gang war going down on Marine Parade, in Wynnum.I quickly got into my car and headed over to Wynnum. I got there just in time to watch two assholes beating the crap out of each other in front of six cop cars, an overhead news helicopter and surrounded by a news crew. NOW I feel much better. Anger management really does work!
  2. That is the material that I alluded to in post #11 BC. I am not sure that we could put it in the tube as I have only ever used that type of balance bead on 11R22.5 tubeless. The advice was to not do it on the smaller tyres. Your 30's are somewhat larger diameter I would think. After a couple of enquiries today I think I am on to an old static balance frame that is no longer used. It may take a couple of weeks to get it and turn up a coupler for the rim to fit on centrally so I will post what the results are. Hopefully it will work but if not will go with the axle with clean grease free bearings on a couple of angle pieces or hanging from a vice. Thanks for the thoughts one and all.
  3. Some time ago I enquired about balancing with the material that is sold commercially. Supplier advised that it does not work on small wheels and may even be a detriment. On aircraft where the wheel does not spin all of the time he thought it may even be worse. He said that it is not recommended to use the puncture goo on any small wheels that spin fast. Wheelbarrow or small trolly may work OK. I have not had any issue with stick-on weights coming off in the past. Granted, the rim is rough cast so will have to be prepared well but I would think possible. In the past I asked Jab and whilst they were knew of the issue and were sympathetic with it, really had no suggestion other than change the tyre. The chap I spoke with did not know if there was a balancing device they use at the factory for repairs. They did suggest rotation at service time may assist, depending on the take off's and landings. Tracking of the vehicle could be an issue as there is light scuffing on one wheel that is more than the opposite side.
  4. The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone, and her makeup. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, the jailor approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, ''I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, giving the guy in front of you the finger, and cursing at him like mad. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally... I assumed you had stolen the car.''
  5. The reality is probably something like that. The heavy vehicles that we run shows that once a flat spot is there it never goes away. A bit of vibration in the air and the heavy spot falls to the bottom, land a few times and suddenly the there is a flat spot. I'm not discounting the rims either as they are far from precision built, although very light. Interesting however, once a new tyre is fitted there is no vibration after take off until the tyre is down to say 75%, then at 50% wear it becomes very annoying. This morning, (great conditions by the way) I pulled the nose wheel off the ground very early so that it would not spin as long once airborne and therefore not annoy me as much. It seems to occur on all tyres but as I noted earlier a touch of brake once airborne sorts out the rear wheels. I wonder if I refitted the spats it would make a difference....
  6. Thanks TP. Your post came in while I was typing. As I note that was our next thought so will probably try it. What about a static balance that was the norm before electronic balancers. The tyre was horizontal on a cone with a bubble to centre it. Do you think the diameter of the tyre would be too small to get it close to correct. It would be quite easy to turn up a cone to fit the old balancers to the Jab rim.
  7. Had a go at that early on. Looked good in the hangar with stick on weights but when spinning at 40-50 kt vibration is really quite bad. On the rear a touch of the brake fixes the issue but the front becomes annoying more so than causing an issue. That is why we believed that the bearings were muffling the issue. Next we were going to get a couple of bearings and spin them clean without grease but thought others may have better ideas. Tyres are quite cheap but it still annoys me to throw them away at 50% wear. When spinning they are not out of round by much at all.
  8. I have issue from time to time with tyres going our of balance. Have tried to stick weights on whilst spinning vertically held in a vice but the friction of the bearings are a little too great for the tyre to settle on a heavy spot. Have tried bike shops and tyre shops for electronic balancing all to no avail. Best I got was a bike shop where they could get the rim on the machine but it would not work electronically due to the small circumference of the tyre. What do others do for balance issues on the small Jab tyres?
  9. Yep - I removed it. Had politics with a named party and remember last time......
  10. If you're not familiar with the work of Steven Wright, he's the famous Erudite (comic) scientist. Here are some of his gems: 1 - I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize. 2 - Borrow money from pessimists -- they don't expect it back. 3 - Half the people you know are below average. 4 - 99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name. 6 - A conscience is what hurts when all your other parts feel so good. 7 - A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory. 8 - If you want the rainbow, you have got to put up with the rain. 9 - All those who believe in psychokinesis, raise my hand. 10 - The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. 11 - I almost had a psychic girlfriend, ....... But she left me before we met. 12 - OK, so what's the speed of dark? 13 - How do you tell when you're out of invisible ink? 14 - If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something. 15 - Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm. 16 - When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane. 17 - Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy. 18 - Hard work pays off in the future; laziness pays off now. 19 - I intend to live forever... So far, so good. 21 - Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. 22 - What happens if you get scared half to death twice? 23 - My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder." 24 - Why do psychics have to ask you for your name? 25 - If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried. 26 - A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking. 27 - Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. 28 - The hardness of the butter is proportional to the softness of the bread. 29 - To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research. 30 - The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard. 31 - The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up. 32 - The colder the x-ray table, the more of your body is required to be on it. 33 - Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film. 34 - If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. 35 - If your car could travel at the speed of light, would your headlights work?
  11. Where is the airstrip Ian? Tried looking on OzRunways but cannot locate a runway 16 on anything near Whitsundays.
  12. I have to ask FT. What's with the quote from Maj as your footer?
  13. I take my hat off to all the candidates for throwing their name in the ring but thought that there may be 10 or more judging by the amount of fuss made about how poorly the board is perceived to be performing. I may be a bit cynical but wonder about the people who criticise the board but never volunteer for the job. I believe that it would be one of those thankless jobs where one would get more flack than recognition of services well done for the organisation. So, to the board members existing, I congratulate you for having the commitment to do what you have done. I will not pass any flack at any of you as I have not put my name forward for Queensland when the elections were held. To the people standing for election now, I wish you every success and that we as members of the organisation, support you as best we can. Nicely put together spiel Col. A mix of a Resume, CV and a future direction you wish the organisation to take. Well done!!
  14. Hope you had a photo taken once on the ground Geoff. A solo only occurs once in life.
  15. What has not been said yet is how many people actually stopped flying when the rego was waiting to be renewed. I would think that it was very, very few!!
  16. Rick - again, I can see the passion that you have for the organisation but I am yet to believe that it is broken enough for us to be concerned. From all reports within there has been some concerns about the association direction in the past but the reports also state that things are showing improvement. Reports on this forum of registrations being late and people not getting a full 12 months are discerning but I would believe easily resolved with an email or phone call to the head office. I would believe that as an organisation, the dealings with government would be reactive rather than proactive, as each new issue comes to light. Agree also that we as members, need to let our elected people know our beliefs in relation to any issues; I would think we probably only have a portion of the facts to arrive at our own beliefs, whereas the board would have more advice at hand. All in all, I am putting my trust in the board but more particularly, in the paid administrators that work in the office on a daily basis. Our future is in their hands and I will trust them to guide us forward in the ever changing enviornment that we operate in. One other comment is that as we age, I believe that we become more hesitant with change and often a lack of undertanding of the change, and the reason why the change is occuring, makes us angry that it is occuring. That's life I guess!!
  17. I convinced the good lady to come for a fly this morning. A westerly until about 10.00am then an hour to commence the normal easterly that we have this time of year in the north. We flew over the edge of Hinchinbrook Channel to Forrest Beach outside Ingham then back home again. There were radio calls from Mission Beach Sky Divers as well as some calls from Starke field near Townsville so I figure there were a few planes out enjoying the weather. These were taken with a simple iPhone 4 and I am very surprised at how clear they turned out. Mouth of the Herbert River. Hinchinbrook Island in the background Macknade Sugar Mill ? on the Herbert.
  18. I understand your passion Rick however having been in positions on state committees in the past, it does not work as simplistic as that. Our representives are elected to make decisions for us at a committee level with as much information as they can gather at their disposal. Technical, quantitive, legislative, whatever is required for the decision. What you are suggesting would be akin to having a referendum for each decision that is made by government. Grand in theory but simply not workable.
  19. I could not think of anything more certain to bring total chaos to the recreational sector of the industry.
  20. Your too serious in this instance I recon Turbo. The Jab comments will probably come regardless and that is fine, we may as well joke about it now. Hopefully no one will get upset with the comments but that is life. I like my Jab but others don't. So be it. Just like Holden will win at Townsville over the weekend but I'll watch out for the Holden bashers if they don't. May have to lay low actually the way Winterbottom is driving!!!
  21. Gee guys, this thread has been going for a half hour now. Surely there are more "Jab bashers" out there who need to get it off their chest.......... I won't even get upset about it and give an "unhelpful"!!! Hehe...
  22. Thats fine cscott however what makes your attempt to disguise swearing with a number as if that changes the context of what you said. You may have offended people with that post but you said it anyway Perhaps we all need to be a little less "thinned skinned"........
  23. I think that you are wrong TP. Dazza has name called and critisied people and their ability and action on a number of occasions. Most people have ignored it but some people have now decided enough is enough and challenged the statement. My belief is that the good and helpful posts that Dazza makes quite a number of, are sometimes undone by his criticism toward others. The Jab comment was the last straw not the first. If this is the tangent you are taking then why didn't you defend the unhelpful that was given to me over a political joke. I didn't make a big deal about it and will use jokes a little more timid in the future. I didn't run away as a lot of posts are very interesting. If Dazza wants to give he must learn to take. Character building, so to speak and we all need it on occasions and the unhelpful is thumb is one of the tools that the forum community uses as an expected behaviour if we are to participate. I personally hope he continues to post on the site but that is his decision.
  24. I love the way that you always see the best in people Dazza....... You could have said that many many way but you chose to be derogatory.
