  1. Dad has a set of them and while I think they have a place they don't cut all the peripheral (spelling?) glare like a proper pair of wraparound glasses.
  2. Just tried it with the iPad and it worked for me. In regards to your question Dutchy as to what my trouble is with the forecasts (I know it was worded more as a q for ungrounded). I fly fairly regularly for a rec pilot but only login to naips if I am doing a trip or planning a trip, it is rare for me to look at a forecast for a local flight, if flying late i will check on last light times but generally for local stuff it is the old lick the finger for wind and use the eyes to see what's happening trick. So deciphering the forecasts doesn't always come easily, yes I can work out the wind directions and strengths easily as they are fairly self explanatory but working out Utc time in relation to my clock time takes a bit more thinking and then the place names can take a bit of time to work out especially if it is for a trip and not in my area. It is so much better to have the plain English version where it is all in language that I use everyday and has less chance, for me anyway, of stuffing it up and getting myself into trouble over a simple deciphering slip up. I do understand that the pros appreciate the shortened version but I would like to see a plain English version option straight from the source rather than having to rely on converters or worse myself:happy dance:
  3. It was interesting to see when we visited the tamworth tower that polarised Sunnys were a must for them, maybe not so good spotting the glare off a turn but better visibility in general. I am of two minds about them, on one side I love them and appreciate the lack of glare from a bright day and on the other hand I have to put contacts in to wear them and I'm lazy and don't do that too often. I used to have prescription sunnys but found them to be a nuisance as I had to wear them inside to be able to see (carrying two pairs of glasses is not really a viable option) and wearing dark glasses indoors gets some weird looks.
  4. I agree with Downunder Ian, the idea seems to me like a good one BUT I think if it is limited to flying gear in general then I hank it would be a waste, after all how many pilots are there really!? I think if it was applied to goods across the board (not just aviation related) so that it had a retailer for everything then all of a sudden you pick up a mass audience which IMHO is what it would need to succeed. I, along with most on the forums I would guess, am not really interested in too much else besides the forums but I think if it was done right you could certainly have a successful expo idea. Ps if you turn into the next zukkerburg (spelling?) remember us lowly mortals:victory:
  5. Personally I think sighting the rocket is plausible, but the practicality of a commercial plane 'avoiding' one is laughable.
  6. I think the only way we could please FT is if we moved RAA HQ to wellcamp
  7. If there was no pilot then the that brings it back to nearly risk free:thumb up:
  8. Give the poor fella a break, look he parked it dead centre of the parking space so can't be completely incompetent. Maybe leaving the mags on was just his version of a theft deterent. As Kaz said, years ago it would have raised a laugh.
  9. Put a remote steerable dolly wheel on the front of that trailer and an electric drive system linked back to an rc controller and you could sit in your plane and send it to the servo without leaving your plane:thumb up:
  10. Ok he is a winner but seriously does he understand the damage he does to the average age of aviators:whistling: Hope he does get to solo again, what an achievement for someone that mature in years:thumb up:
  11. With usable fuel still in the main tank and both transfer pumps switched off, I wonder if it could have been something as simple as stuffing up the on off direction of the switches and convincing oneself that there was definately fuel left and transfers were on so must be faulty indicators? I thought the lack of an autorotation was a bit weird but it was nearly midnight so was dark and it states once second engine went out that they would've lost altitude info so even with city lights height perception would be difficult and it wouldn't be hard to think you were going through ground rush when actually you were at the ground or top of building height.
  12. Just need to up the Maximum useful load to include a couple of jerry cans and have a suitable holder and you would be on a winner:thumb up:
  13. They are a beautiful plane and would be my pick if i had the money:sad:
  14. Good old CGI, it ruins a heap of good stories
  15. At first I thought this was an rc aircraft as I have seen a few of them do similar things, but unless it is cleverly edited it looked legit. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1157166247334
  16. Just thought I would bump this thread, I'm still kicking myself that I will be otherwise occupied this Saturday. I think there will be some representation from our Quirindi club heading that way, weather permitting of course.
  17. OME it's been a couple of days since I've flown, but I could've sworn I use back trim when landing?
  18. I like the idea, actually I had looked at the solowheels and their Chinese derivatives but just couldn't justify the cost. You can get quite a few taxi rides for 1k. For someone with the money to spare or someone that would use it regularly it would be good but unfortunately my hobbies keep spare money to a minimum:crying:
  19. Congrats Tim, well deserved I reckon:thumb up: Hmm they say open air machines and have a pic of a gyro with what looks like an enclosed cockpit? Maybe if I fly with the doors off I'll sneak in next year:whistling: Hopefully they give our captain a free shirt next year:amazon:
  20. I'm doing my bit to encourage the female half of my offspring into flying:thumb up:. She loves the zero g feeling and wants to be able to fly upside down, so maybe a future aerobatic pilot:nod: Yes yes not in the Hornet!
  21. Hence the 'careful' in my post:wink:. I had to drill a few rivets out (who has ever built a plane and not had to drill one out!?) and always used the centre punch method, I must say though that it was more of a gentle tapping than a hammering:bash:
  22. I'm no good with auto electrics but I dare say it would be similar to your alternator light. While the engine is running alls good but once it is stopped and key power is still there the light comes on.
  23. If you can't get at the back easily sometimes a careful application of a centre punch (maybe a small pin punch would do the same) can knock the pin through enough to keep it out of the road.
