  1. Jim Stupid me. Where is the apps button found when on the maps page? I accidentally did a while ago. I heard the camera click and found a copy of the screen shot (email) in my pictures This would be great if I could do it again Cheers Phil.
  2. I can't for the livfe of me see what the anti comments are all about If CASA has ok'd the software for use and the size of the tablet is for an iPad size and a back up is required, what's the problem? I for one would not venture into unfamiliar territory without maps for the area. IPhone as a secondary backup would be my third choice after the wacs charts Ever tried to read an iPhone app when enroute? it's not flying the plane. Plenty comments, so please keep them comming Phil
  3. Slightly confused. Is an iPad A5? Not by my measurements. So does an iPad qualify?
  4. Thanks for the reply I will chase up. Just curious, did the replacement clip into the unit without any problems? Can't find any at that price, cheapest that I can find is$44.95 delivered Don't mind that if it fits ok Phil
  5. As i am planning a 30 something hour trip through the centre in a few weeks time, I got to wondering about the life span of the battery, I bought it in 2007 so could be long in the tooth. Anyone know or had problems? It holds charge ok at the moment and hardwired for charging. Phil.
  6. 'The flight, which left Brisbane at 10am, was three-quarters full of men, with some women and children' A regional newspaper reported a car accident a few years ago where "Two men and a shearer were hurt" Still amuses me.
  7. Tobago for half an hour while pilot had a "nap" Woke him up when airport in sight. What a buzz!
  8. Lost my post just then, probably uncontrollable fingers! Seats are the same, just the padding. I have lambs wool covers from a mob in Vic at a quarter of the Jab advertised price. I think due to buying direct. I have done many 3plus hour trips in comfort Yes I did have the Brumby as a next possibility but the idea of having various nooks for luggage didn't suit my needs.
  9. Zoom, We have the three jab types here. the 230's are by far the better Xcountry planes. 24 registration allows extra baggage. 160 is underpowered for climb. 170 larger wing great plane, endurance, fuel burn and climb but very little luggage space. I would choose the 170 if you dont need to carry luggage. The 230 if you do. which has room for swags, even golf bag, camping gear tent etc.
  10. The councilors have the last say I guess that the applicants have already considered this and done all the necessary paper work Me, I would have an informal chat to the councilors than I knew. Express my opinion and leave it at that. Hopefully a good and sensible outcome for all Good luck
  11. Zoom, You are on the money by trying to match up your flying needs with the plane 600 kg means a factory built High wing leaves a few less possibilities Speed V fuel burn is really a red herring. MPG is the way to make a decision Luggage space, endurance, comfort and spare parts with good service also play a part in the selection. I have got 400 hours up now and was toying recently about changing to a low wing similar to a Pioneer but none have the performance or criteria that I have now. I mostly fly 3 to 4 hour legs apart from the local stuff. I just can't find anything better for what I want to do. Re an above post. It is necessary to have a LAME at 100 hours or 12 months to do a service on a LSA aircraft I believe. To sum up. Make sure you tick all the above boxes for your needs. Of course it goes without saying that the bank balance will tend to make the final decision. Good luck in your selection. Phil
  12. Tim Reminds me of the time I was playing around with my standby Aera 500. I was departing the servo in my car (the gps was plugged into the cig lighter) I had only gone a few yards when a VOICE called out TERRAIN TERRAIN The look of confusion on my face would have been worth a saleable picture. Not to mention pulling back on the steering wheel. Phil.
  13. Good thread. I have always used track up until I get near my destination, then north up. This orientates me with the runway directions. Before doing it this way I did a diagram of my approach point on a separate runways map and drew my approach profile with my intended route with arrows. New destinations of runways can be very confusing for me track up. Haven't landed on the wrong runway since! So two bob each way for me.
  14. Summary It was reported that the aircraft had finished a flying display at Parafield Airport and was positioning for landing. Shortly after, the aircraft was observed descending vertically towards the ground. The aircraft impacted the ground and was destroyed. The pilot was fatally injured. The ATSB has deployed three investigators, with specialisations in engineering and aircraft operations. They have already begun work at the accident site. Over the next few days they will examine the wreckage and accident site, interview witnesses, collect maintenance and pilot records and examine any relevant recorded air traffic control radio and radar data. The investigators are seeking witness reports including any video footage that might assist the investigation. Witnesses can call the ATSB on 1800 020 616. The investigation is continuing.
  15. I requested some spin training a few years ago and was pointed to a glider TIF as legal in training. Seemed to have worked so far. Recommend if available and not expensive
  16. Me too. Great site for upcoming events that are not that I know of available elsewhere Like others I have not had any reminders until recently which reminded me to include the Loxton flyin on the 13 th April. I Emailed and they included next time I looked. I have NEVER received any emails other than reminders of upcoming events Hope you sort out your problem. Phil
  17. Went there once a couple of years ago. Probably took off over weight after that feed Reccomend to all. Phil
  18. Padlock symbol shows locked unlocked. Handy gadget, stops inadertant input when locked for safety Phil.
  19. I use Ozrunnways on iPad, Garnmin 296 and maps, clock and compass. Keeps me occupied and I enjoy the exercise on Xcountry trips. Having got to know Ozrunnways these past months, my only bitch is not the program but the user. It did lockup on me twice now, both times I inadvertently touched the lock key located top right hand side about where you handle the IPad. Other time it shut down due to overheating. Fixed both by obvious means. It's a great tool but wouldn't and shouldn't use if your life depended on it. Same goes for GPS. I activated WAAS thinking I would get a better fix,the screen went blank when cloud cover appeared, again operator error. Just my experience. Could help someone Phil
  20. Gotta watch you guys
  21. Welcome Wayne I do hope that you can keep up with the paper work and the pressure of starting somewhere behind scratch. Looking forward to your Tec Manager report in the Mag. Good news for all Phil
