  1. Not general fines , Travel violation fines. I think most people can talk their way out of a travel fine... there's a million excuses you can use ! (sick mum, feeding animals on holiday property , fictitious work, etc, etc.
  2. We have a Covit checkpoint at the entrance to our town . 24/7 freezing cold and boring as Bat Shit , I feel for the Police and Army personnel that are doing their job. The shame of it all is that anyone with half a brain can divert around the roadblock by going around the block . I went through yesterday and just said I was a local on the way home from my farm and didn't have my license with me. The young policeman wasn't worried and let me through, not checks. Is anyone being issued with fines for Covid travel violations ? It doesn't look like it to me.
  3. Postcard material Bennyboy ! ? That cloud is spectacular from the air.
  4. I agree totally Bruce! There are forum members I agree with on one subject but totally disagree with on another subject. Strong debate is good as you see both sides of the argument and can learn from others experience. It's just a shame some get a little to personal at times. ( me included after a couple of Reds lol )
  5. I haven't been for a fly since the 29th of Feb. Still visit this site at least twice a day. It's easy to divert into some other activity because of the lock down or lose interest. With a lot of student pilots grounded or unable to afford training they have probably found another outlet. There isn't much inspiration to to become a commercial pilot at the moment. Things are changing and who knows what's at the end of the tunnel.
  6. I think you will find it's more to do with hitching up and dropping the trailer off, the grease is so the turntable doesn't bind to the trailer hitching pin and plate.
  7. Things are tough at the moment with lock down and the Covit 19 . It's great to be able to keep in touch with fellow aviators on Recreational Flying ! Please support Ian and his generosity in giving us this forum at no cost. Click on the left hand side of the screen on "site Donations" . Thanks
  8. It's SAD times mate. I wish there was an easy answer! At least all of us on this forum have a chance to vent our anger and frustration, even if we don't agree! Thanks to Ian for his efforts in keeping us all together at REC FLYING !
  9. There is no cure, no vaccine ! Do we hide under the bed ? Come out in 2 years to a state of poverty, massive unemployment and a depression like the world has never seen !
  10. I don't disagree Turbo I see your point. The thing I'm worried about is the media beat up..........maybe some of the deaths aren't from covid 19 , any infection would have given the same result. Anyone with an immune system that is compromised (chemo, auto immune problems, and poor health ) are at risk from any infection.
  11. Do these people have an affliction that makes them vulnerable ? ( this is the thing I hate, If someone is in good health and Covid takes their life it is a tragedy. If you are in a position where any infection could do the same thing ............why blame Covit 19, it would have probably happened from the common flu ! The common flue could compromise their health....... many died last flu season from complications .
  12. In most machinery with a dry hinge I would say don't lubricate. As Nev said all you do is create a paste of grit that will wear the hinge away It always fascinates me when I see tow balls with grease on them, if they were meant to be greased there would be a grease nipple.
  13. In the past Wars we sacrificed our young fittest men to beat the enemy ! This War we might have to sacrifice those that are frail and elderly.............. I can't see any other way out ! ( by the way at 62 I'm on the front line )
  14. The fact I was making is it's not on the news nonstop about Malaria deaths ! "Your post was beyond stupid "..........thanks for the comment..... Spoken like a " true rich white Western person "...........I didn't realize I couldn't have an opinion ! " First of all, there has not been a mad panic ".................. could have fooled me !
  15. Your 100 % right Octave. My point was that the Malaria has been killing hundreds of thousands of people for years. There is no panic because it's a fact of life and it doesn't affect the average white Westerner. Not so with Covid 19 ! That's why there's such a reaction.
  16. Covid 19 hasn't come close to the impact of Malaria. Maybe because Covid 19 affects all the Worlds population not mainly Third World Country's there's a mad panic. There have never been any restrictions banning travel to infected Nations and nobody really cares ! "Over one million people die from malaria each year, mostly children under five years of age, with 90 per cent of malaria cases occurring in Sub-Saharan Africa. An estimated 300-600 million people suffer from malaria each year. More than 40 percent of the world’s population lives in malaria-risk areas"
  17. I can't see how this is going to end without Herd Immunity. There is no Immunization and probably won't be for years (there is nothing for SARS after years of trying). It is like a bush fire in the middle of Summer....... there's no point in putting out 99% of the fire , then leaving 1% to keep burning because you have no way to put it out. In a few days it will be back worse than ever........ this cycle will continue till the whole State is burnt!
  18. They do give them the BIG green injection ! Never the same afterwards. ? Who would sign up to let somebody shoot bullets at you ?
  19. Peter , We have an old International W9 Tractor in the shed that was my fathers. It started on petrol and when engine temp was hot enough you would change to power kero. It had shutters on the front of the radiator to regulate the temp that you could adjust. You had to keep the temp gauge in the hot band, if it got to cold it would start to miss fire. When stopping the tractor you had to change back to petrol for a while so it would start next time , it wouldn't start on straight kero.
  20. Bendigo Victoria........I was answering a post that already used YBDG as reference. Sorry......
  21. I meant Bristell Aircraft …..should have checked spelling lol ! Small world Jerry Atrick, Bob Downing is a good mate of mine. We have shared a few bottles of red in our time. He is a talented wine maker and produced some great reds. Bob just sold his vineyard and has moved to Bendigo to retire with his wife Joy. When I see him I'll say g'day from you. cheers Butch.
  22. I fly out of YBDG ! It was only luck that there wasn't a collection of wrecks hidden behind the hangars. We could have up to six soar aircraft in the circuit at one time most weekends...bloody scary !!!!!!
  23. What sites? I've been looking but have't seen any. We used to call them the Grasshoppers (annoying pests) They would arrive in swarms and overtake anything around them (and they spoke their own version of the English language) lol !
  24. Soar Aviation have many Foxbat and Bristol aircraft they used for training. Now that they are no longer operating as a flight training school ( so I believe ) I presumed there would be numerous LSA aircraft coming onto the market. I may have the wrong info but if it's true surely they would have to liquidate some of their planes. It would be a good time to buy one of their aircraft as the market is dead at the moment! Has anyone heard anything ?
  25. I think farming has gone to the top of the list as the most dangerous work environment. We have had two deaths in our area in the last month on quad bikes. One 80 and the other mid 60's. The best thing that I have acquired from becoming a pilot is the ability to evaluate risk, human behaviour, and get there syndrome. To save time in the past I would take short cuts, ignore risk, and think it won't happen to me ! It's like the ….Bold pilots and old pilots...…...you make your choice.
