  1. Anyone going to Childers this weekend, 5, 6 & 7th May for the Wings and Wheels fly-in? I hope to be going Sunday, weather permitting!
  2. What a great airfield and pretty country as well!
  3. Hi Vev, the new 7/16 thru bolts do not use the 12 point nut. It's a rather unusual nut. Approx half the height of the nut is round and the top half is hex. I have them on my J160. While the bigger thru-bolt is stronger, if detonation is the problem, this will make little difference, as Nev pointed out. We don't have sufficient hours on it to draw any conclusions so far. BTW I cannot see what difference it would make changing the standard hex nut to the multihex nuts on the 3/8 thru-bolts. Regards, Bob
  4. Detonation is almost certainly the cause and to remedy this problem, Jabiru have reduced the compression ratio and increased the size of the main jet. Now they have increased the threaded diameter of the thru-bolt which should have a better chance of keeping the two halves together. My J160 has the new thru-bolts so I am keenly interested to see how it holds up! It is used for training, so it should get the hours up rather quickly. Bob
  5. Frank, I did the same as you but didn't post a reply. I thought it was a trick question!
  6. John, it may be that you are sighting over the spinner instead of a point well to the left of the spinner when you touch down. I know people who have had a similar problem flying from the rh seat. Bob
  7. Alan, your suggestion would probably solve the problem but unfortunately can't be applied to a certified aircraft. The next best option would be to use the new 7/16 threaded thru-bolts. Potentially an expensive exercise requiring the holes in the cylinder flange to be reamed out and the two crankcase halves separated to replace the studs and new dowels fitted.
  8. That's one of your best posts. Poor old Mal, too honest for a career in politics!
  9. I am sure I speak for most forumites when I say that your sense of humour is most welcome. Regards, Bob
  10. Welcome, Herm. You do realise that Guernsey is a hard act to follow!
  11. Nev, what are the major differences between an LSA55 and a J120?
  12. And here is the very same aeroplane!
  13. FT Are you suggesting that there are more injuries in Jab accidents than other types of aircraft?
  14. I've got a few I can sell you, Riley. Please refer to attached photo:roflmao: Seriously though, what a crying shame that all those pictured, were cut up for scrap! Picture Oakey circa 1948.
  15. Yet the number of fatal accidents in Jabs is so low when compared to the other side of the ledger. It makes you wonder doesn't it.
  16. We wouldn't want to miss a golden opportunity to bag the jabs!
  17. Welcome back SavvyMerv!
  18. Think I will give it a go, but I'll wait till 01/04/2013!! Good one Ozzie!
  19. I used to fly that Cessna 152 of FlyingVisla's, back in 1980! Nice photos, Winsor.
  20. Congratulations, Ayavner. It's good to have that one behind you. You will breeze through the other exams!
