  1. I tend to agree, Gnarly. What's the point. They whip themselves into a lather just to get a few inches off the ground. Anyhow, I'm off to the gym. LOL.
  2. Hello Motz, can you give us any details as to the nature of these failures? Bob

I too, have one of these frustrating little suckers. I must have wiped it out over twenty times. The last time, I was about to chuck the lot in the bin, but my wife talked me out of it. I bought the Real Flight sim as per Turbo's post and I can fly it ok. If you want some serious frustration, buy a r/c chopper. Mine is the Trex. Regards, Bob
  4. So I suppose it comes down to who is responsible for your safety. I doubt that Jabiru will institute a voluntary recall because of the sheer magnitude of the task and the cost involved. So where does that leave us? If you think the new thru bolts will make your engine more reliable (and I do) then the only option is to fork out for it yourself. Not the sweetest option, but what price for safety? Regards, Bob
  5. Surely they must be working on a good 'fix' by now. You can only sweep the problem under the carpet (or simply ignore the problem) for so long time before it MUST be dealt with. They have come up with a revised thru-bolt, 7/16 thread diameter instead of 3/8", however time will tell if this solves the problem as there are presently so few engines with this upgrade. Bob
  6. Rats can chew through just about anything from communications cables including optic fibre to anything that presents itself as an obstacle to the little blighters. Bob PS They make good pets!
  7. Beautiful country, Tomo. It's like a patchwork quilt!
  8. Please don't send him to Toowoomba. I think he wants to visit a forumite there!
  9. The coils are basically an auto-transformer and some have a diode across the primary so that they will only provide spark when the flywheel magnets pass in one direction only. Is it possible that one of your coils is facing the wrong way?
  10. It certainly is if you want to take the wife and the billy lids for a fly!
  11. Unfortunately, even the car manufacturers are leaving us stranded. The injectors on the D4D diesel Toyotas come to mind. They supply dud injectors and the customer is expected to pick up the tab for the upgraded item!
  12. Was it Roscoe Turner and Gilmore?
  13. Me thinks the gubbermint should spend some money on literacy!

Reg Mitchell and Rolls Royce. An awsome combination!
  15. The valves have friction welded hardened tips. Shorten them at your peril! I believe you can get shorter pushrods.
  16. You forgot to mention brains. They were favourites back in the 50's.
  17. Probably the most amazing part of this story is that they both survived.
  18. Nev makes a very relevant and sobering point..... "What is your life worth" .... Which brings me to my point. There is not one Jabiru owner who would not want a more reliable engine. Nevertheless, there are many Jabirus on the RA Aus register and there have been so few fatalities in Jabirus. The overwhelming number of these tragedies have occurred in aircraft other than Jabs. I would earnestly like to know why this is. Bob
  19. It was a great day out. The wheels part of it was very interesting too. I loved the old RV1 and SV1 Valiants. Never seen so many in the one place. The breakfast was something special as well. The bacon, eggs and bangers were great. I gave half of mine away and still ate too much! After we departed, we called in to Biggenden for afternoon tea. At the footy field next to the strip, the local rugby team known as the Biggenden Udders were making final preparations for the big match. Two of the team were happy to pose for our cameras complete with ciggies and fourex in hand! We then left Biggenden and made our way back to YCAB. The weather was perfect for flying and the hospitality of our friends at Childers was much appreciated.
  20. Sometimes less is more..... what am I saying??
  21. I think that is called a sphincter moment!
  22. Tiger country is any place where a forced landing would not have a happy ending. ie large tracts of forest and or mountainous country etc.
  23. Hello Tom, The older motors were rated at 85hp, the later ones, only 80hp. From my observations most of the thru-bolt problems occured after they went to hydraulic lifters, though there are reports of failures on the solid lifter models as well. We will now have to wait to see if the 7/16 threaded thru-bolt alleviates the problem. This could take a while since they were released late last year. Regards, Bob
