So the same as SAAA or RAA?
  2. Yes that's what I thought but Rod says different Standard Jab hot air setup doesn't bypass air filter or the main scat hose
  3. $21 k it was Aug 2015, included big altenator, toca, exhaust seals 6 cht probes, inhibitor and freight Basic engine was less
  4. OK, yep its all good CAE actually has extra oil port in gallery itself, Seeing as normal pressure measured upstream of filter it may not represent what engine getting. I thought two ports on front of engine were before filter and at end of gallery, it seems not. Can anyone confirm this?
  5. Absolutely and the POH says this on the first page. Also in the black art file is a guy who had long term starting trouble, all gone when "vacuum bleed valve" (Hacman), fitted and open?? - Yet I have never had an issue. Hacman basically equalises downstream and carb bowl air As per pictures here with round hole for air inlet instead of NACA........mine has NACA duct fitted in different location to many others Ive seen, further back and higher. Bing is super sensitive to incoming air pressure and even propwash could be enough to lean it out a little. Informed people tell me the flap on top of air cleaner housing is supposed to prevent this pressure but may not work too well. This train of thought/development might be on track to cure a few bugs.
  6. I added ramps to inlets on old engine.....did close to nothing to help cooling. Others say different.
  7. CAE still call for Ryco and can say after using around 30 x Ive never had any other problem. They are still very common on some small cars Engine ran for some time but pressure and temps all good until it started to warm up (like 83 up to 88 deg C), pressure dropped quickly but only to around 35psi and held this until landed and shutdown I have thermostat on oil so this possibly masked potential oil temp rise for a while Noticed faint oil smell, easily gone with vent open. Pressure runs around 65-67 psi - its a solid lifter so no problem and this is below max recommended. Not sure quite what you mean Bex, Pressure was perfect after repair and refill. I flew home just hour or so later. Old filter beyond analysis after removing with what tools I had. Vev, problem is they wont even discuss aircraft use or problems, I will ring them however.
  8. On the smooth section towards outer end where flat "hex" bits begins Ran from centre outwards
  9. ryco Z386 developed 8mm split, around 15 hrs old, most oil lost in flight. Landed safely, replaced and all good but very unimpressed on filter quality
  10. AU warranty legislation is very tough even for normal retail products If you make it or import it then you are responsible for the warranty and in many cases consequential damages. There's even fit for purpose requirement and implied warranties that cannot be waivered away. Hence we pay more for things here than elsewhere in the world. Insurance for all this is expensive Much of this doesn't apply to sales to companies or those over $40 K
  11. Maybe but the point is, the Jabiru engine with lots of cheaper parts ended up the same price to customer. The new version is already being said to be to be similar expected price. Lower grade things sold cheaply (like the $20 grinder) deserves little sympathy for the buyer. Pay the same as a good one and you've a right to be upset. There was never any deals between the two as I understand.
  12. The bit that irks me is that CAE engine with expensive name parts was the same price as a Jabiru.
  13. Jabiru have been purchasing generic parts for some years simply to save costs. Coils, pistons, circlips, valves, pressure senders, gauges etc etc All of which have had QA problems. Pretty hard to hide say dodgy piston circlips as they simply come out then so does gudgeon. To even inspect is a tear down. Valves heads come off. All of which result in engine rebuild or replacement and a seriously upset owner. On top of this is the design changes and fixes, throughbolts, collets, spring washers, There's SB about this stuff yet they path is continued. Now they are forced to find new makers for key parts like cranks, rods and cams. They are betting the future of the brand on the new engine and history indicates repeated QA problems. Chinese can build good stuff for sure Bex but the reputation for shafting partners and shipping non compliant rubbish is well earned.
  14. The PB3 should be able to do that, Just need to watch temps for the tach and wireless unit I had a nice little bracket made up to fit sensor to top of oil pump.......by CAE long ago
  15. I bought one too, way more flexible than dyna vibe Hardly used it though Can you outline process Thirsty?
  16. Sorry TP it was a sitter
  17. I agree with both Oscar and Bex. Jabiru has so badly damaged its own reputation with engine problems and poor solutions and customer service over last several years it may not recover in many eyes. CAE was the solution here. They do however have a significant captive market which sadly is more captive if airframe prices stay low. LSA have no choice but to implement whatever Jabiru come up with.
  18. I think maybe the caution tag button is the furthest right and big fingers press it when scrolling on small screens like iPad or phone
  19. Bruce for all the goodwill in these intentions, it is unlikely to be successful The business size and equipment was simply too big for the small volume of engines being sold Without Jabiru support, seeing as they are going elsewhere, the business model simply has to be different. I'm just living in hope someone revives the design and gets going on a smaller volume basis. Just for the record I proposed the outside funding idea to Ian a couple of years ago and he refused.
  20. Yes and CASA actions limiting certificated engines as well as experimental backs these thoughts up. The fact that no one else around the world implemented their actions shows the level of regard CASA are held. Theres several levels of "certification" Proper Certification is only on one version of 2200 and some versions of other makes, not all of them As Oscar indicated this could be a real issue for owners as the supplier or design of parts cannot be simply swapped. For CTA I think its a "recognised" not certificated engine. Experimental and LSA 3300 Jabs can do CTA I believe - needs exemption from casa but can be done.

Are the smaller aircraft flyers and owners sure their end of the RAA spectrum is cheaper to run and manage per aircraft or pilot than say LSA? Maybe purely based upon numbers, theres more money coming into RAA from those wanting to fly bigger and quicker aircraft than that coming in from R&T crew. RAA is perhaps simply catering for the average member and providing services they want. If by some chance this is correct then the smaller guys should be a bit careful about branching out. It would become user pays for sure then with sad results.
  22. Yes liquidators are working out whats there, this was the case for couple of weeks so decision was made some time earlier. Its a long detailed process before things are actually sold. People interested in parts should combine efforts to ensure they don't disappear or become too expensive. Unlikely they will be sold off individually PM me if theres things you may be interested in and we can maybe form buying group.
  23. I thought cases were pretty good, fretting related to joint method using loctite and variable tolerances it caused and maybe harmonics. Tied in is whole throughbolt drama now blamed upon harmonics introduced by hydraulic lifters If all that has been tamed, Camit by new bolts, solid lifters and differing assembly method, Jabiru by new bolts and harmonic damping methods, then the bottom end is pretty well bulletproof. Next comes the new cast case, looks nice for sure but its a serious change to a engine where problems just been sorted out.
  24. Good to know, they will be turning up crankshafts in no time.
  25. Jabiru have very little CNC capability as far as I know, most parts are made elsewhere or imported. Camit was the sole source of most major engine parts. Heads, cylinders, cases, cranks and maybe camshafts. They also assembled all new engines. If and when the new engine gets going, Jabiru indicated plans to have new source cast cases, cylinders and heads.
