  1. Just hope someone else gets Ian on board to make these parts elsewhere.
  2. Asia or there will be the new cast ones........unproven and just a little cheaper than a new Jabiru engine. Customer cop it again. Somehow the whole engine drama has played into Jabirus advantage, limitations on anything modified, no parts for old models, most likely pick up some good CAE staff. Cant believe Sue comments, a key cause of the difficulties of CAE is their move to OS suppliers and a concerted effort to see CAE close down. Now theres a monopoly expect to see costs rise and service drop. CASA didnt raise a mention??
  3. Maybe but $91k is less than $350k........a good thing?
  4. No answer at CAE, doesn't look too good
  5. Evidence says your in the minority JW Best argument Jab owners had was they are cheap to fix, not that they don't have issues Many more problems with hydraulic lifters versions, now admitted by Jabiru, now all fixed they say. Yet they wont be able to sell fixed engine (or parts) but an all new model What about thousands with one of older versions that isn't fixed, maybe now can't get parts. If you think Jabiru's changes list is longer than CAE, then you don't have CAE list.
  6. yes new oil and filter at every 25 hrs, plus a couple of extras at the start.
  7. Yeah I think the engine ran for 30+ days not 3
  8. Don't believe anyone thinks it can break even. Those who made the decision to keep it accepted this load on membership funds Was also previous board who approved this course Whats needed now it either a plan to increase sales or a line in the sand for paper mag to cease Looking at it differently the paper magazine is costing $91k now but told it was costing $350 K ?? or more before Id have thought it more likely paper sub numbers will decrease as some get used to Online
  9. yes correct but theres several versions of the "new" 2210 engine, one in aircraft has machined case and ran a couple of versions of bolted heads for some time, Done 300hrs total I think over couple of years now. Not sure what version the one test cell has, assume its latest cast block with cast, screwed heads. - but its done 1000hrs as you indicate Other in aircraft at Narromine had around 10 hrs at the time.
  10. It would be the same parts, Jab have been slowly replacing CAE parts for a while Jabiru complain about bitzer modified engines and if Camit aren't supplying anymore almost all will be except newest ones Yes they did look final and well done, hard part is anyone buying a new engine will now wait. From what was said I got the impression there are only one of these engines ever built and running. One pictured for just a few hrs. Long way to go in my eyes. Some parts have done more.
  11. The question was asked, Data passed on to those who can penalise ie casa is de indentified They could let casa know about repeated breaches or I think ATSB and coroner can demand info
  12. Kasper argue with someone else, your last line Calc doesn't make sense I'm telling you what was discussed at meeting, not my numbers and they add up it was indicated the cost of magazine is $70 pa per subs We are 1300 subs short of break even point or - $91k To break even theres -$91 K needed from general members funds to pay for this shortfall To break even they need to sell another 1300 subs at current $68 or more like 910 at $100, simple stuff. A waste IMO, but the board and members demanded it. Possibly the same ones here complaining about finances and losses. Get payment for another 1500 copies sold via deal with SAAA and problem gone.
  13. I think some are seeing an SMS that easy and simple and not GA or commercial level, problem is that idea won't be effective or palatable to CASA - who is driving it all. The resources will be there for anyone to use , some money spent on short videos online and they are calling for feedback.
  14. Current offer price is $68/ 12 mths, this is around cost of production they indicated 1300 more subs needed to break even, all other numbers drawn from this Sure you can work it out several ways Postage will be $1 per magazine and rising again shortly, big % increase. To cost of mag
  15. Maybe a bit of wishful thinking by Jabiru, the current engines are still made by CAE to Jab specs. Most talk was about the new engines with parts coming from elsewhere, but fact is they arent real yet
  16. ATSB uses data provided by RAA and others, crap data was evident in recent Jabiru debarcle. RAA indicated in safety talk they have 9000 members, 170?? CFI, best they can do is get them involved and provide info to members directly. There's some safety documents coming shortly they said. Idea for local CFI to run safety talks came from members When last asked just 2 CFI volunteered to get involved. They are developing videos, resources and incentives like free memberships to encourage Cfi to get run safety talks and make them quick and easier They are seeking ideas and feedback on documents and efforts, let them know what you suggest. Don't just tell forum members. Safety management is an annoying issue as it can be nebulous and ineffective or well run and have good results. Costs can be exponential so it's a balancing act. Unless people are encouraged on board it won't work. In industry it's done by penalties.
  17. Don't like the sound of having to remove barrels every time there's a valve issue. Being able to swap a head out or send for repair was a nice feature Without CAE parts things look pretty grim for all owners of current engines
  18. Yep From Sat presentation, in loose numbers, break even is 3300 subscriptions, currently around 2000 Actual paper costs $70 pa so around $90K being spent keeping paper mag alive This is 100% being done because of vocal support and management doing what was requested by members. Now the costs are being felt Its an example why managers and board need to make hard decisions for the benefit of all To be a bit fair, there is a benefit in paper copies to newsagents in new member promotions etc and ways to share costs with others like SAAA are being investigated
  19. Planey, been through this many times, 912 can't perform same as 3300 especially at higher weights and with IFA is way more expensive I know they are out there but very rare for good reason
  20. Costs to certify (or do anything really) here, even to astm are absurd and this would open markets to both, enable competition and keep businesses local Planesmaker, I recall you got a good deal on the 914, great for you but not for the next guy. At full price it's difficult to justify. I'm very glad I have a Camit purring away and didn't put it off too long
  21. Yes Rod said they would be a little cheaper, I'd bet not much. Not sure how there's a middle man cut out, if anything it's only on machining cases Simply cheaper because casting is cheaper after originals made, also no doubt coming from overseas- a sad thing for AU and something that has bitten Jabiru repeatedly in the past with quality control The casting looked very nicely done,
  22. Yes but that's a whole new design, this one is new materials on existing design so not only retains certification but should be lots of problems already found.
  23. Yep good point,I guess they will need to offer customers something to justify expense. Wont risk of any poor outcomes, lie with company and directors?
  24. Casa have been trying to get new regulatory frame work "correct" for decades and billions of dollars Still a mess Is this the approach you prefer?
