  1. I heard that too They havent acquired anything it seems but doesnt mean they cant produce parts
  2. There is aviation grade ones but at $300 usd are a bit hard to afford Ive tried many plug in and panel mount adapters and have the same problem, its simply cheap electronics I have a couple of the Jaycar ones but not in the plane, might try it. Not all of them work with Ipad though. Not having Ipad on charge seems to see it run much hotter so charging is important. I use a high quality usb back up battery pack now. The charge circuits are smart enough to effectively use it first then revert back to internal capacity after.
  3. Sales of coils for honda small engines is strong
  4. Certification plays a big part in stagnating development
  5. Generally wont work with leaded fuels SDS uses one to setup injection on Jabirus, i think it lasted longer than anticipated With he wide spread of mixtures in Jabiru engines you need towatch each cylinder separately to make sure theres not one way to lean or rich, the average wont cut it. Hence why multi channel egt and cht are so common
  6. Somewhere I read the new engine is accepted as replacement for certified models No idea how, its either an all new engine or its not, this seems like they are having a bet either way In reality certificated owners would be in deep trouble were this not the case as there are no longer even parts made under correct production certificate anymore
  7. Yep there sure is a lot riding on the success of this round of upgrades Everyone hopes its successful, history says major changes take a while for them to sort out. Its still unkown why aome locations have great run with Jabirus and others the opposite
  8. or someone will buy the whole thing, now certified etc.and in production ........ and do well.
  9. There was a quite detailed tuning sb from Jabiru outlining jet sizes and combinations for each model engine Has been superceeded by a pretty useless one Maybe theres a copy somewhere
  10. high quality parts are going to be hard to find and expensive. Jabiru have been saying loosing CAE isnt a big deal........maybe this is what you get

    Oil leak around head

The factory is well aware, isnt that why South africans developed different setup for drain on side of case, now seen on latest models I think
  12. Use a small line laser clamped to the back of the prop, facing the ground, the extra distance make very fine adjustments obvious, on a cement floor can see differences well below that seen on an inclinometer the line makes sure its sitting in the same spot on each blade assuming aircraft doesnt move.
  13. Levil aviation make what you are after, would require 2 x ipads Id suggest, one for EFIS/EMS one for Nav Has an inbuilt sensor module and displays via Ipad or similar I do know an owner who isnt as impressed as he was pre purchase.
  14. Because unless your an experimental, you can only fit what Jabiru designed. The manual flap is pretty rough design and relies on the flex in the handle and a nylon lug to hold in plce Stage 2 sees flaps have significant mech load on the lug and it pops out. Dropping a stge of flap at landing could easily cause a prang. As could flying with one or no hands.......but thats what you have to do to hold it in place reliably. The electric setup is pretty good and has benign failure mode
  15. I didnt "do it", it does it itself Locating lug slips out under load, if you havent experienced it before, be prepared Talk about brown M&M's
  16. All are good points however finding a non arrogant, professional LAME or L2 with in depth real current knowledge on all variants of Jabiru isnt easy. That manual flap mechanisim is pretty ordinary even when new. Sure had a few frights with it releasing from St 2 to 1 on short final, not only in terms of aircraft performance but the loud bang it makes. Ive seen numerous attempts to improve with limited success Get rid of it and fit electric version, if you have wings off it can be mounted pretty simply. Worst failure mode you have ten is flaps that wont come down or up, in either case you can handle it.
  17. Maybe Im missing something regarding training concerns New users need instruction for sure but, There isnt engine type endorsements currently so any training would be non RAA required so all the rules on owners nd 51% wouldnt apply. Its not IFA prop but CS.
  18. And every engine type and variant has its own curve Mikes info is based on conventinal aero engine types not all types
  19. If its an LSA you have no choice but to follow these and other non logical recommendations
  20. Did anyone say the plane was hired or costs claimed Id say if the plane was free and borrowed- hence the claim it was inappropriate donation- whats the problem? Casa should look if someone was being paid to act as a pilot or did their employer stand them down at the airport gate.
  21. How about places without existing services? Theres big sections of NSW and beyond without weather info at all or even effective weather radar Yes they seem to fail a lot, hoping ASA get good ones they can maintain Dont forget Dick Smith donated money to them for this
  22. Many of which have no public listing or are broken down regularly
  23. Actually Saab 340 not Metro, but airframes are getting old too. Shouldnt be relevant for engines though? Ill bet theres some maintenance teams getting roasted this week. Take offs and returns, baulked starts and such arent that uncommon. But engine out is a step above. Sat in many airports waiting for maint team to arrive and reset or check some system out. often on the next flight. Rex has a tough fight with main competitor being Qantaslink. Despite not being required (aircraft smaller) they are forced to implement and pay security levies at some airports just because Qantas DOES have to. Sydney and other main centres trying to force them out. Problem with these sized carriers is they need to larger routes to sponsor small volume ones Id guess. Without them many regional centres are screwed. Seat pricing where only one brand operates are up to 100% more expensive and never on special for the same travel distance.
  24. Multiple electric options should be safer and fairlly simple.
  25. Id say its a very typical level of lazyness but with uncommon homesty about it. Maybe pdf burns time and data, dont know. Some email setups block them. Including magazine subs in renewal is a good idea Would like nothing better than magazine to pay its way with more people subscribing.
