  1. Just got an email to warn that if we park outside the terminal, there will be a $20 per hour parking fee charged. This is signed off by the airport operations manager. There is a light aircraft parking area and there is now an incentive it use it.
  2. one of the fundamental mistakes "L Platers" can be guilty of is trying to rush the landings (abiet unconsciously) so the biggy is RELAX , take your time and listen to your instructor..
  3. Awesome! No explanations on the first trip through. But keep watching because on the second, he tells you what everything Is and who everyone is. I had no idea there were so many astronauts aboard. It looks like they have fun, so it must be recreational flying. SOUND is ON..
  4. wondered where you got to..
  5. I've gone through the "pilot watch" phase with the rotating bezels and dual time etc., but really the watch of choice that I constantly use is a Seiko automatic..with second sweep hand, no batteries, self winding and simple ..
  6. http://en.gen-corp.jp/ and it comes in kit form by the look of it. Nice toy.. so who is going to be first in getting one?
  7. G'Day Jack, Thanks for the info and a little nostalga for me at least... I learnt to fly in a Grumman Lynx, was a part owner in a Grumman Cheetah and also hired Tigers a fair amount and actually got my initial twin endo in a Cougar.. Although I haven't flown a grumman in years, still got a soft spot for them.
  8. Two US Air Force F-16 fighters have intercepted a privately owned Cessna plane that entered the same Los Angeles airspace as Marine One, the helicopter that was ferrying US President Barack Obama. A law enforcement official says police discovered about 18 kilograms of marijuana inside after it landed at Long Beach Airport. The Secret Service says the president was never in any danger. In a statement, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said it scrambled two F-16 fighters from March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County, California, to intercept a Cessna 182 over Los Angeles (at about 6.30am Friday AEDT). The Secret Service says the plane had entered into the same airspace as Marine One. Officials interviewed the pilot and turned the matter over to local law enforcement. ' Talk about bad timing:cops:
  9. Being a successful property developer, Kim Rolph Smith can see an opportunity in being involved with Randall MacFarlane in developing an airport in the Brisbane -Toowoomba growth corridor. (In fact blind Freddy can see it.) The looming demise of Archerfield airport as we currently know it within the next three years as it is going to be too cost prohibitive to operate unless you are corporate or an RPT operator. This will of course force current Archerfield tenants and the majority of users to look elsewhere hence Gatton airport. If you want to build a house and a hangar, there is always the gatton airpark option.
  10. yep, the place is a dive because the owner of the aerodrome won't spend money on the building, the new screens on it looks like its boarded up, but no they are still there and serving good food as usual. I have been getting lunches from him since he opened there (when in YBAF). Good to see the RQAC kitchen reopened hope it works and not too expensive to operate.
  11. "........unlike the now closed cafeteria near the terminal." Don't know where you got that one david, bought lunch from there today...
  12. years ago, there used to be a canteen outlet at the bottom of the RQAC building as well as the resturant upstairs...
  13. Shags, basically the boomerang is a whitney redesigned Piper Tomahawk, with the tail feathers attached conventionally. despite government funding, the blokes that were developing the aircraft settled on building an expensive 2 seat dinosaur. There are a phetora of modern designed aircraft out there (Tecnam, Skycatcher, Sport, Alpi and heaps of others, we all have a favorite) that came onto the market at the same time and are cheaper to purchase, maintain and fly under either RAA or GA, so as I said at the time it was doomed to fail and that is indeed a shame for the Australian aviation industry.
  14. I was in Harndorf once at a festival where a pipe band (from Mt Barker) were there making an awful racket and the mother in law stormed over and had a go at their terrible playing etc., when they explained they were only deflating their bags so they could go home... That was a magic moment for me (still laugh about that one) good video by the way..
  15. Its not looking good with unprecedented flood levels expected to inundate every property in St George:sad:
  16. I'm anal retentive about FOD when I fly the Yak and make any one silly enough to hop in the back empty their pockets prior to getting in. the cables that run down to the tail don't have much clearance and even a errant biro cap could cause a lot of grief. part of the preflight I do is to hit along the bottom of the fuselage and if anything rattles.....we don't go anywhere until we are satisfied that there is nothing there.. very sad to think that the crash in NZ was caused by something like this..
  17. 6 of one or half a dozen of the other, either way nothing wrong with getting an old 150 type, just ensure that a thorough pre purchase inspection is carried out. a C150 with half life engine and prop will give many years of enjoyment and are cheap and easy to maintain as you can do a fair bit of the maintenance yourself under schedule 8 reducing the costs encurred leaving the important stuff only a LAME can do. when you do it this way, costs are comparable to similar RAA aircraft.
  18. yep, read them all as a kid but wouldn't have a clue what ever happened to those books so a few years ago my good wife went and bought em for me again, so they are in my bookcase with all my other "factual" aviation reference material
  19. got it in one av8vfr, with the exception of: Copy of Schedule 8 of CAR 1988 Schedule 8 Maintenance that may be carried out on a class B aircraft by a pilot entitled to do so under subregulation 42ZC (4) (subregulation 42ZC (4)) 1. Servicing of landing gear wheel bearings. 4. Replacement of defective safety wiring or split pins, but not including wiring or pins in control systems. 5. Removal or refitting of a door, but only if: (a) no disassembly of the primary structure or operating system of the aircraft is involved; and (b) if the aircraft is to be operated with the door removed — the aircraft has a flight manual and the manual indicates that the aircraft may be operated with the door removed. 6. Replacement of side windows in an unpressurised aircraft. 7. Replacement of seats, but only if the replacement does not involve disassembly of any part of the primary structure of the aircraft. 8. 20. Coolangatta airport, pub just outside lighties access gate, used to have good counter lunches and if you tied down the aerofloppy thingy.. coldest beer around and if you didn't tie down, the cokes were just as cold. Forgot home!! Couple of pubs within walking distance of Dalby Aerodrome, or if you are feeling lazy, some one is sure to offer a lift' On the other side of the country, how about Forrest.... caretakers have a bar, food and fuel and when I was there last, great hospitality.
  21. I realise that this topic is a little stale, but looking at the photo of the C170 of Al's, it has the rego of the taildragger that I got my TW endo in, only when I did mine it was in a GA registered Skyfox VH-APK. Its stable mate VH-APN was the first JAR-VLA certified. I remember doing a lovely ground loop in one of them once at redcliffe with a chorus of radio chatter wanting to see me do it again..
  22. Welcome Fred, might catch up xmas 2012 as the wife and I are planning on flying over to see the rellies and friends who live at Bow Bridge, Margaret River, Busselton and Perth.
