  1. Me too. I am really intrigued as to how this would compare with the pricier and slightly heavier 100 hp Rotax 912.
  2. Volvo held out longest with lots of flat panels and the boxy look.
  3. The best handling notes I've seen - although dated - here CH701 STOL Classic quote from that site, not particularly a handling issue: "Glove boxes are more important than silly dials!", insisted my wife.
  4. Nice and clear ...and elegant too. I like it! I hope that you can adapt the same technique for the wings: I expect that the wings are likely to be constant chord, rather than tapered! There are many good constant chord wing aeroplanes so that is not a major issue at all. Next question: is this going to be a low wing plane or a high wing?
  5. Beautiful pictures Farri!
  6. When are you starting your build?
  7. I think it would be great if someone started a Savannah paint system THREAD on this forum. There are so many options and it would be great to get different people's experiences in a single thread.
  8. It's a lovely looking bird, Guy!
  9. Despite Tony Abbott's sudden removal as Australia's Prime Minister, it seems that you want to perpetuate his memory by making a poor cartoon of Tony your avatar? Is he your hero?
  10. "Be afraid; be very afraid" There have already been a number of weight increases over the last two decades. The last one was from 544 to 600 kg, a little more a ten per cent increase. An increase from 600 kg to 750 represents a further 17 per cent increase. This is almost a 30% increase over 544 kg. By this time, the laws of physics determines that an incident is likely to lead to bigger injuries or more frequent loss of life. What is the real purpose of the RA-Aus asking for this? Is it some kind of Empire Building, a way to increase the numbers of aircraft on that register rather than the VH register? Picture this: once the 750 kg limit has been approved, I think we'll have a flood of ex-VH aircraft joining the RA-Aus register. Most of these are from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s; some are from the 1970s and 1980s. Whichever way you look at it, they are old aircraft, pretty much close to the end of their useful lives. The current RA-Aus register would have very few aircraft of that vintage. Some of these older aircraft may fall out of the sky (God forbid!) and that will lead to undue attention on RA-Aus. This is likely to result in a media call to "do something" and demand "tighter restrictions on those ultralight Cessnas" or words to that effect. The final outcome may indeed mean that the aviation-ignorant legislators feel that they need to satisfy the media demands and actually impose a stricter regime on all recreational aeroplanes. Is this worth it? What do the majority of RA-Aus members actually want?
  11. After Harold Holt was drowned (or captured by the Soviets in a submarine ...take your pick), the Deputy Prime Minister from the Country Party was sworn in at short notice. This was on the 19th December 1967. With the Christmas and New Year period intervening, the Liberal Party did not have a new Prime Minister ready for five weeks. The new Prime Minister (from the Liberal Party) was sworn in on the 10th January 1968: it was John Gorton. If this happened again during a non-Christmas period, expect the leader of the National Party (the new name for the Country Party) to be the Prime Minister for about three weeks.
  12. ...and, as frequently happens in legal disputes, the only real winners are the lawyers.
  13. ...but in the meantime, the leader of the National Party would be prime minister for a week or so.
  14. Remember the castor oil! Hi Bex: I wholeheartedly agree with Litespeed who wrote: I hope that all goes well for you in the weeks/months ahead. There have always been naysayers (Thomas Edison was told that he was wasting his time in finding the right material for a long-lasting electric light bulb but that did not deter him) so take courage and focus on the task at hand.
  15. That's a bit cynical Russ. Let's give Bex a fair dinkum "benefit of the doubt" and see what transpires in the near future. I am confident that this is going to be a game changer.
  16. I hope Project No 2 will be a unique, fast build, aluminium high wing plane :-)
  17. Fantastic footage but somewhat disturbing when you think there is no place to go in the event of an EF .
  18. Well there it is: a wheel on the tail. That, in my books, makes the Foxbat/A22/Valor a tailwheel aircraft ...in addition to being a nose dragger. I think it will be hard to feet a tundra tail wheel to a Foxbat though!
  19. That should help Malcolm reach a budget surplus, if implemented fully.
  20. I agree. Many people lose sight of relativity. Flying has always been an expensive business and flight training (which includes aircraft and instructor time) especially so. There are three certainties in life: 1. Death. 2. Taxes 3. Flight training is expensive.
  21. I don't think they make an RA-Aus compliant version. http://www.xtiaircraft.com/trifan-600/
  22. Just a few big steps to go. You can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
