  1. WIKI is a good source but often requires verification and is so captioned 717s are a Douglas derived Boeing takeover model and were not outdated.. Nev
  2. MX bikes aren't that noisy if the exhaust system is standard and you won't compete if it isn't. John a C-180 on take off is pretty noisy. People don't like aeroplanes overhead and low. Nev
  3. Jetstar doesn't use the older "Q" fleet. It had the Dreamliner in greater numbers than Quaintarse. Nev
  4. They make your state prosper, like all tourists do. Nev
  5. México is closer to the Equator. Victoria is further from the Equator than QLD. Nev
  6. Well presented?? There was nothing in it of substance. Braised muffler ? How long do you think that will last?? Nev
  7. Extra weight will make it easier to fly. The engine gives you added control. When you have to, use it. . Nev
  8. My comment was "general" . Of course you can't have an airline without planes .Feeder airlines are also harder to run profitably. Sydney Melbourne is a money maker.. The number of hours/day the planes are in use is a consideration also. Nev
  9. The BIG wheels are a lot of drag at a low position and that will require elevator downforce above normal which adds to the load the wing must carry. The buffeting MAY be coming from disturbed airflow on the tail feathers.. I can't see all that making more than a few Knots difference to the stall speed. but the whole thing should be sorted out at a safe height rather than on approach/landing. Nev
  10. If you don't fly the aircraft full you lose money every hour you fly. It's a high cash flow show with small profit margins. Nev
  11. $200 return to NZ is below cost. Nev
  12. The plane is designed for short landings and low landing speeds .IF it's gusty use less flap and some power. Fly to the conditions. Keep talking to your Instructor. STOL planes aren't for gusty conditions. Nev
  13. Do you know your Indicated airspeed is accurate? If you have stall buffeting, fly faster A power off approach on a draggy plane is steep and has a higher RoD than you might like. Nev
  14. Can you translate that Ian? I'm guessing it's a good turnout. nev
  15. Max HP is always above peak torque. . Centrifugal forces are Squared law and very significant forces that load bearings.. Conrods usually fail in tension. Nev
  16. Depends on the keel surface and how the air flows around it. It's a weathercocking effect and I reckon most planes would be directionally uncontrollable. with adverse aileron effect. Nev
  17. Power is rpm and torque but the RPM and friction are squared law. Nev
  18. Till the torque curve starts to dip a lot more revs will give more POWER, but high(er) revs is more friction.. Nev
  19. I know someone who didn't bother but a year or two later decided he wanted to drive and passed.. I also know some one else who didn't know WHERE they were and Drove too fast. (Always did even when being coached by the trainer). Unsurprisingly DIDN'T pass. There IS a time to give it up. My Mate in NSW has an electric thing he just loves and gets around locally and with a cab other times. Nev
  20. Don't you lose your licence when you get retested at an advanced age and don't PASS it? Nev
  21. Might have required too much skill so I started flying the real thing and eventually got paid to do it so that was some compensation. otherwise I might have been a ship's Engineer on a BHP Ore Boat. That's the sort of thing one aspired to in those times. Nev.
  22. All is right with the world then. I got out of models when the RC took off. It was nearly as expensive as the real thing. Nev.
  23. Too big for control lines. Nev
