Ultralights replied to recflyer's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
whats speed got to do with it ? and how does anyone know what checks happened before the spin exercise? how do you know it wasnt inside a dedicated aerobatic box of airspace? -
Cessna 210 emergency landing near Broome WA
Ultralights replied to JEM's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Alice to Broome Non stop in a 210 is a bit of a stretch... -
they shouldn't have, the VNE is a result of design parameters. unless of course one model has a differing weight
-
be careful with the plans, a certain designer from the US borrowed the plans to make a kit in the US, he modified the original design, resulting in a fatal flaw, of course, he washed his hands of the design, and Micheal Colomban, the original french designer was bankrupted clearing his name. if you build from plans, please get hold of copy of the original plans from the designer himself.

dont forget, some aircraft fitted with wheel spats, can have their wheels constantly rotate in flight, even my Savannah nosewheel never stops turning from take off until after i land and park the aircraft

i find just reading the synoptic charts are good enough, more accurate than some of the crap the BOM publish sometimes
-
the last few years the BOM forecasting has been abysmal, obviously from their massive funding cuts a few years ago.

Light Aircraft down near Camden
Ultralights replied to red750's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
just because they were on camden tower freq, doesnt mean he departed from Camden, i often fly over camden on my way to bankstown, and will monitor the frequency as i approach and fly over. as well as sydney radar when in the area. -
Why is it so hard to become a PPC pilot ?
Ultralights replied to David Taylor's topic in Powered Chutes etc Usergroup
i spoke to someone a while ago about getting into powered chutes, as he was a PPC flyer himself, as well as unpowered chute glider pilot, his advice was to go to the USA, get the training done in Hawaii, buy your setup over there, come back home, fly till your hearts content and keep your mouth shut.. and no videos. after reading the above, i can see why. -
Cameroo camel Station, Bindara Station on the darling River. Arkaroola in South OZ flinders ranges. Louth on the darling river, between Bourke and Willcannia, or there is this map, made by a well know and well respected forumite.

so seeing as i have done a lot of work repairing corrosion, installing newer and safer aircraft grade components, including paint and corrosion resistant treatments, now do i have to remove all the new parts, install the old worn, corroded and cracked parts, apply for engineering approval, wait, pay, and probably pay again, before i can reinstall the new parts again? and who do i trust to approve all this considering i have been an aircraft structures engineer now for 25 years, with experience on every airliner boeing and airbus make, and the entire aus defence force fleets, i now have to trust someone who doesnt know the inside of a Savannah from a drifter?

Somersby would be a lot closer to Hornsby than any other strip. needs permission to use though http://www.microlight.net.au/location.htm

dont forget to fly into YSBK with RAAus aircraft, you need it to be factory built, or have an approved engine for flight over built up areas. with a PPL its no problem, but with just a RRAus certificate, im not so sure anymore. I wouldnt go to warnervale, the costs there are almost 10 times that of Bankstown, Bankstown landing fees are $10, and that covers you all day (well they were when i last flew out of Bankstown quite a few months ago now) . and parking on grass is $15 a day. (was, not sure if its changed)

Bogged down on Lake Eyre
Ultralights replied to aj_richo's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
forced landing you say, fair enough, but obviously the engine was running long enough to attempt a U turn on the mud before getting bogged. -
i would go for a set of 15x6.00-6.

if only we had mountains high enough to do something like that in oZ, then it would be banned by the national parks like everything else in this country
-
100% rating they say? obviously didnt survey anyone in the industry on the east coast either.. a chronic shortage of pilots? there is always a chronic shortage, but funnily enough, there is never a decent wage/salary increase thats typical of a sills shortage.

Here is some good news for rec flying.
Ultralights replied to flying dog's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
if they bought her a Savannah, she could have literally flown to school. -
Youve gotta watch those Jodels

Do landing fees lead to safety being compromised
Ultralights replied to ozbear's topic in Aircraft General Discussion
landing fees themselves, No, excessive landing fees, Yes, Warernvale being a good example, to land at Bankstown +$10, is class D, has ATIS and AWIS, top class runways and taxiways, well maintained airport, Warnervale for your$27 you get a scrap of what some would call tarmac about 4 ft wide, with more pot holes than most Australian roads, poor quality taxiways and parking areas. no lighting, no ATC, no AWIS no ATIS nothing...
