Well done Robyn , we plan to get there next year . What was the fixed camera by the way ?Bob

Hi Bob. Both fixed cameras were Drift's. One is an older HD170 and the other is a newer Ghost. Both have remote controls so I was kept busy turning both cameras on and off when there was something good to see, as well as using a handheld occasionally, as well as navigating. I wouldn't say it was a very relaxing trip. :-)

Next time I'm just going to let the cameras record and hope they don't run out of space.

Spoke to Geoff Mercer, owner / manager of the Holiday Village at Great Keppel yesterday and was told that the airstrip is NOT closing but as we all were told on our trip in October that the resort caretakers have requested that they have 24 hours notice prior to anyone flying in.

Here is the recent formal request which will be included in future ERSA,s

Here are some photos of our recent yearly holiday /pilgrimage in October this year with a group of 10 Aircraft.

Subject: Landing at Great Keppel Island - 24 HOUR PRIOR NOTICE REQUIRED

Hi everyone

We have had advice from Peter Williams who controls Great Keppel Island Airfield that 24 hours prior notice to land at Great Keppel Islandis now required.

ERSA Notification is pending publication..

This is due to heavy aircraft traffic recently at Great Keppel

For landing requests please contact Peter Williams on mobile 0408 004 536

Ryan:

It's not a big problem as the strip is plenty long to sort out your arrival. When we were there, there was some grass growing through the runway. Don't know what it's like now.

If you land on 12, there is a bit of turbulence from the hill southeast of the runway on short final if the wind is from the southeast. The stronger the wind, the worse the turbulence is. It might even be better to land downwind on 32 in some conditions as there's plenty of length to get on the ground and get slowed down.

Had a trip up to Great Keppell after Old Station. Informed that strip is closed to traffic hence the big X, pity its a terrific spot did get some great photos though.
