  1. Next, Insurance Companies will want in Cockpit video recorders installed in factory built aircraft? They do it in many road vehicles now. Then home built aircraft will not even be eligible for hull insurance regardless 😞 I have NO faith in insurance companies, regardless. Read your PDS cover to cover and you will begin to understand.
  2. Prove intention to operate outside the specs unless the investigation finds beyond a reasonable doubt the the pilot did so. In respect of Weather conditions, was there a weather station nearby? Who could prove weather conditions at crash site? Lots of variables including WHO did the investigation? I am sure the insurance company would do its best to deny a claim? Seems to be the way of insurance companies these days…….
  3. AOPA? Been there, done that and the strain of trying to tow start a concrete 747 was too hard. So I did not renew my membership and walked away…….
  4. Use the POH as a guide, then add your own experience and knowledge….
  5. Skippy, See what this achieved for their cause? Sometimes a War is not worth fighting, ASIC Card is one of them….. https://www.crikey.com.au/2022/02/18/aftermath-of-the-convoy-to-canberra-protests/
  6. Well, I bought a Jabiru and know of all the things that can happen and have happened, to some of them. Flying has its elements of risk of losing an engine in flight for whatever reason, in any aircraft. Engine sh1ts the bed? You instantly become PIC of a glider, having to do an out landing. So just run your checklist and make the most of it. Jabiru seem to have a solid airframe so that is a bonus 🙂
  7. Skippy, Try peeing upwind in a Cyclone? All that will happen is you will get wet? WHY pick a War that is not winnable.? Find a way around the problem you want to fix. Don’t like ASIC cards? I don’t like the idea of them either. Quite simple, I won’t fly where one is needed so problem is solved for me. In the future flying may involve the use of clandestine airstrips as ASICS may be needed to land at ALL documented airstrips, nothing would surprise me, the way the World is going. The total worst of it all could be, you hold a pilots certificate or licence, it will be mandatory to have an ASIC Card? So what then? Fly with NO licence and NO ASIC Card, NO Rego number displayed? Own you own airstrip? Be the best thing you could do. Everyone here knows the suggestive answers I could make 🙂
  8. Skippy, I am a good man….WHAT do you want me to do?
  9. Well it’s simple…..WANT the card? NEED the card? Just suck it up and get it……many things in Aviation are a crock, just add ASIC Card to the pile 🙂
  10. Not so sure I would want to be involved in ‘official’ searches, they know their work better than I ever would. There is a thing of having too many aircraft involved? And possibly being outside my personal risk assessment? My idea is more a personal thing, years ago I volunteered myself in a big flood using my boat to look for lost and stranded Cattle, that was a personal request from a property owner. He wanted to compensate me for it, I just said no, it’s OK as I have ‘booked’ it up to community service 🙂
  11. Well, I guess maybe I am weird, stupid or both. Monetary cost is totally mine in consideration of helping others. The buck stops with ME, I would cover my own costs for fuel required, maintenance to aircraft and any parts needed. My time needed to try and achieve a satisfactory outcome. Insurance for the plane? With all the PDS b/s these days, I would not be covered and IF I am unlucky enough to bin the plane? Just go buy another or get it repaired. Get killed? I would go down losing my life knowing I was trying to help others. Passenger? NO it’s a DIY deal for me, and me alone.
  12. Title says it all, Can an entity invite an RAAus pilot and aircraft to participate in search and rescue incident? Can you offer to participate in same? IF say for another example, a friend or even a party not known to you becomes lost or missing in say a 4x4 somewhere and you offer to go look for them? Is this legal? Under ordinary circumstances you cannot airdrop them a vehicle part or a comms radio etc, can this be done in these circumstances in the guise of providing emergency assistance? Naturally considering all of the above circumstances involve being in a remote area not readily accessible by 2WD vehicle etc.
  13. The Savannah Air Force 🙂
  14. Did anyone think to phone the RAAus Technical Dept? After seeing all this, they will write an amendment for their Technical Manual 🙂
  15. Not for a factory 24 rego, unless makers STC?
  16. Turbs, I take on board what you say…..but the more I learn, I can’t but think the whole system is somewhat broken 😞. Insurance? You can forget that as Insurance companies dig as deep as the can to deny any claims they can. Policies with PDS documents not understood by many. CASA Riles have a mountain of bandaids stuck one on top of the other! WHY? because they are too lazy to rewrite anything that will update and simplify the rules. RAAus are guilty of the same…….their attitude is simply, just pay your rego and membership? Their insurance policy for members? I have been told by those who know……it’s a paddock full of Landmines 😞 RAAus themselves need to get their act together, too. But, being the little Cupcakes we are…..we just suck it up.
  17. Look, you screw up, licence or not in, ANY kind of aircraft and DIE by your own hand? When your life is lost, its over. I have NO life insurance, NO superannuation, NO pension, the first 2 are a big scam anyway. At my age I have NO fcuks to give. So, all the goody two shoes people can go live the rest of their unhappy life obeying every last nanny rule until they croak. Not for me……Adventure has been part of my whole life. My wife? Sadly she looks like passing before but if it’s the reverse I have her covered anyway. I am a decision maker and planner…….
  18. In crashing anything, some people will do their best to make the Crasher…..a scapegoat. No matter how innocent they could be. Human nature can be VERY horrible in some cases……
  19. The wheels or wings or bilge plugs go missing AND you injure or kill somebody, licence or not….YOU are done like a dinner. NO licence is a mitigating event to the main problem. IF I chose to fly unlicensed, or in an unregistered plane, it would be on a property in the Central West of Qld, even to the point I could trailer it out to a remote road somewhere and fly……that makes the ‘illegality’ of it even more fun! The big rule would/should be NO passenger(s) So, you crash and die with either result…..on impact, or the passage of time before found. YOU the PIC decide your risk factor in this. You make a big bungle and YOU die? Will CASA, RAAus fine your estate for your unlicensed flying, what about you insurance for plane? There is none if you had no licence and you are not alive to claim anyway…..so what’s it all matter. Your family get to grieve, but you are GONE…… Also, how many licences pilots have flown without a current medical they are under? How many with expired BFR?, expired 100 hourly?, Without correct endorsements? Snuck through controlled air space? Flown IMC on VFR flight? How would CASA ever know? They won’t unless they spring you on a ramp check. Bigger chance of an RBT in the Simpson Desert?
  20. I buy Tycab Australian Made cable via Cooldrive, cost more but worth it. Gave Junkar away a long time ago….. https://www.tycab.com.au/
  21. With the advent of most organisations wanting to treat crash investigations like hot potatoes. It’s getting to a situation where people care less, just want to do their own thing. Why become involved? An old DC-3 pilot I was talking to a couple days ago said to me, WHY even bother with even having a licence, you don’t need one to be a good pilot 🙂 I said a resounding YES!!! Licences will never stop crashes. You can still be.a crap pilot with a licence and a hay stack high list of endorsements and still crash. As a PIC, the whole buck stops with you as a pilot. Be it a 747 or an Aerolyte 103
  22. All my cable supplies come from Cooldrive in 30m rolls, made by Jaylec.
  23. Speaking of fuel tank condensation, for machines on the ground, I often give them a dose of Methylated Spirits to solve that problem.
  24. Don’t lean too hard on decent Instructors…….or there will be NONE left. They will simply call it a day and enjoy their twilight years flying there own planes.
  25. There is lots of good YouTube stuff, and not so good. You need to sift the wheat from the chaff. Jason Miller from “The “Finer Points” has some good stuff.
