1. My D11 has a 0-200 (which I recently rebuilt) fitted with a B&C starter and alternator. Plus a Rotec TBI unit, that works very well indeed, can't praise it highly enough. Although I have heard of people that couldn't get it to work properly! Maybe they just don't suit every installation. Mine took about 10 minutes to tune in.....G
2. I was talking to a bloke at Tooraddin yesterday and he told me all about this site. So here i am.....I'm an almost retired motorcycle mechanic with 50+ years experience and a 2 year old daughter. An incurable tinkerer with a good workshop. (L2 too). I fly a Jodel out of Tyabb. I hate politics and love to fly...
3. Hmm, very unfortunate, poor bugger. He was flying ok at 1.30pm. Although the aircraft went up to 10,000 ft or so and came down without dropping any jumpers, we all wondered what that was all about?...

Latest 3300

Really 2850 is just not fast enough..............more IS better....

Latest 3300

You should be able to achieve max revs at W.O.T. level flight at a set altitude, say, 1000ft?.....( or even a little more)....... if not? Then the engine may not be as good as it can be, or you have too much pitch....The engine REALLY REally wants/needs to be revved, to labour the motor is to kill it by allowing it to overheat ( I don't know about non-Jabiru installations) ........So as far as I can make out 3000 rpm is a minimum cruise engine speed and the engine should be propped accordingly.....As far as a Bolly adjustable prop goes. I would adjust it to give me, say 3400 at WOT and cruise at 3000, WHATEVER the speed is, is irrelevant to the engine.....

Latest 3300

You can happily blame the engine ! I have a shortened Original Jab prop here you can try if you like...Ended up shelling out 1800 for the sensenich. 3300 WOT is now easy to achieve. That, plus updated pushrods/rockers and LOTS and LOTS of other things pm me for details if you like....
7. Thanks for that David, It still wont open, But I know they're available. I'll complain to optus now......................Geoff
8. There are only 10 types of people that truly understand binary
9. I was shown a Trutrak electronic artificial horizon at the 2011 Natfly. Fantastis piece of kit! I was wondering if they were now available, The website is www.Trutrakap.com , I use optus server and it looks like the website is blocked. (Optus blocks others, mainly film downloads) It will never load, just times out, Can someone else try and see if it's working? Thanks Geoff
10. I believe you are talking about the Stolp Starlet SA 500 that has been for sale for quite a time...Lycoming 235 too!....I think it's an absolute bargain. If I didn't already have an aeroplane I would have bought that one!...
11. your stator may look like this?.......................note especially where the rotor has rubbed on the screw heads!
12. The problem is:- The crank doesn't turn fast enough to make any decent amount of power. The motorcycle that the alternator came from has a cruising rpm of around 7-9 thousand rpm NOT 28-29 hundred, as on the 230. (That is just about idle on original fitment) So the cure was for Jabiru to fit a belt and pulleys to get the thing to turn fast enough!....
13. Really nice and interesting ; all that info about knee boards. Unluckily I can't see my knees in my Jodel. And that wasn't the question anyway. I see I shall have to ask Jeppensen....
14. Try Werner on 58562154, his mate, Doc. Ferguson has a nearly new one. I believe it is for sale
15. Oh yes they do, have a look at one yourself
16. So what am I missing? I was flying around Melbourne the other day and noticed that Sunbury (pop. 31000) is not marked on the Avmap. Nor is Yea, (pop. 15000) Neither are new towns and there are plenty of smaller, much smaller, places marked. If I found two then there must be plenty of others not marked. Why is that? Anybody know?
17. Did you get your engine yet?
18. What a great experimenter, it's just delicious to see inventive brains at work. There is , of course, no good reason to put your life at risk that way. I couldn't see any real improvement on a "normal" tail.....But great to see anyway,, ..................Plus I just watched the "fighter jet" video. How great is that. I love America, the land of aviation experimenters!!!!! (Crap world political attitudes) But THE land of aviation pioneers...10 minutes later.............After doing some surfing I found a video of "Archon Lygisitis and friends" The damn thing is Greek! But still bloody great
19. well I've decided to go and take my tent, I think that a sleeping bag might be excessive, maybe I'll take a summer one. I notice that it's about the same cost to take the train from San Francisco but taking 51 hours!......Hmmm worth thinking about...So, see you all there?
20. Has anybody visited Oshkosh and camped there? What were the facilities like? I'd like to go but I prefer to travel alone and stay onsite. Just looking for information at this stage....
21. Those are old model BMW's . There are now R1200's in two different states of tune. The most interesting is probably The motor from the R1200RT which is published as having a max torque of 120nm @ 6000 rpm or max power of 110hp @ 7750. Having worked on the earlier models since they came out I would be quite happy to run one at 6000rpm continuously for cruise and 7700 for a short time for take off, similar to the Rotax . Due to changes in VIC ROADS rule concerning written off vehicles , you should be able to buy a whole bike at auction (Fowles or Pickles ) for not very much at all.....
22. If you are in Melbourne give "City auto electrics" a ring . They are in Coburg at (03) 93506677 , they repair/rewind all kinds of motorcycle alternator windings. I used them for 15 years or more when I had a motorcycle shop...They are VERY knowledgeable ..............Never had a comeback from them...
23. Some poor buggers (like me) just get sick and it spoils flying ......But, don't bother with Ginger. that's ok for beer. But for airsickness ( which I suffered from when I first started) use "Quells" they will make your mouth dry, so don't forget your water bottle, I used half a pill half an hour before the lesson. After about 6 or 8 lessons I didn't need them anymore.
24. I just looked at www.thunderengines.com Very nice looking modern inline twin they claim 80hp at 50 something kilos. Looks very trike oriented, maybe alternative to a rotax 581? Cheap too!!
25. this usually caused by an air leak in the exhaust somewhere, only has to be small. If you can richen the idle mixture you can make the mixture that gets into the exhaust too rich to burn...
