    Goodaye Just saw Sully at the cinema, what a great movie. Tom Hanks was a a good choice and directed by Clint Eastwood so l did expect it to be good. Made me wonder how true it was, it comes accross as factural but.... It seemed to me they were looking for someone to blame. regards Bruce

    Goodaye You can drive a bus without a medical as long as you dont get paid. So killing free passengers is ok but not paying ones. As someone that will loose his medical when l get my first hip revision l am sure l am going to made to jump through hoops to get it back. Plan B stick with RPL regards Bruce

    Goodaye all There seems to me there are statistics, facts and opinions mixed up in this. Facts would require engine failures against hours flown on all types GA and RAA With clear causes. Statistics are a tool to interpret facts, these can be skewed by bad and incomplete data. So can sometimes be useless. Opinions are formed both by hard facts and bad data, its is a indervidual's own perception of the data. Right or wrong its the inderviduals choice. l have a opinion on engines and base my choices on that, would like to see clear data either to reinforce my opinion or correct my mistake. One piece of information l would like to see is engine cost against failures? Cost does drive the choice of a engine. You get what you pay for, but thats only my opinion. regards Bruce

    The Sloper has splash fed bearings, Chev used it up until 1953. White metal bearing on the crank and 4 shims in the conrods to set up the gap. Last forever, l have dropped the sump in the car to remove a shim on a hammering bearing to fix it. We had it on a dyno a couple of years ago 29hp at the rear wheels, exactley what the manual said. Not bad for a 76 year old. regards Bruce

    Acturley tried a turn back last week. Declared 2000ft ground and attempted it at 3000ft Lost 400ft climbing clean and 500ft with flaps, learnt a lot. Consider better options at 1000ft to 1200ft. regards Bruce

    Very well indeed thanks. l was told l had cancer, but was told not to inform CASA until l had a official diagnoses, was told to consider my self grounded which l did. Final tests no cancer just scar tissue all good. regards Bruce

    Goodaye all Broke my golden rule today. One project at a time. Purchased a Genuine LJ GTR Torana, its in bits but the bodywork is done. New double carport built, l will be shuffling a few cars around to put the Couger fuselage in the carport while l get a start on the wings. The Couger take's priority. l will collect a few missing bits on the GTR in the meantime. Bonnet, boot lid and front seats, would be interested in any bits and pieces. regards Bruce

    Goodaye all The correct Loctite has its uses, we use a bit reassembling truck components, used components that is. As threads are touqed the threads distought and the bolt stretches, loctite allows the reuse of the bolt. Would l use it for aircraft flywheel bolts?, l would go with the manufactures suggestion when using new bolts that l would fit. Bolts are cheap insurence. This also begs the question where are the dowls that would take some of the load and ensure the flywheel is put back in the correct position for balence? If no dowls l would make sure the flywheel goes back in the same position. regards Bruce

    Goodaye all Sat down with the CFI at my school, to convert my GFPT to RPL. Was due for a flight test and did the reveiw the week before so only needed to fill in paperwork. Was current on my medical and have a ASIC. Spent a hour doing paperwork and then did the english test (l thought it was good laugh but not worth the cost) It was recorded and will be kept on file for CASA if required. Discussed the extra privlidges and my responsibilities and we were done, paperwork off to CASA Seemed painless but we will see. Will wait till the new year to do my Navs as that side of it has not been setup yet. regards Bruce
