  1. Wonder how many from CASA ride their sports bike on the weekend to unwind..
  2. Might be being picky but if its the one " with the plane" isn't it a turn cordionator?
  3. Unfortunately that's not how they see it That is more like how they see it. A safe aircraft is one in the hanger, unless your work cover then it's a hazard to the LAME.
  4. Shiite... Not the first company I've herd of with the same story
  5. 14hrs over water in a single! His B@!!$ must be made of unobtainium
  6. Also Greg, I've a QLD HR licence and forklift licence as well as a QLD builders lic, everyone down here is telling me that this would help getting a start, this make much difference over Joe B?
  7. Thanks once again boys, Nev, 33c+ is where I do my best work! Just done winter in SA, can't wait! As for the rough air maybe not so much Poteroo, I've had this in mind and if I end up waiting it out somewhere till next year I'm hoping to get a few hours on type to keep current. Finding one to hire could be the trick tho. I'm hoping that I could find one to do a NVFR rating so that my $$ are going to something as well. That's if I have any. Greg, the flying sound awesome! I got into aviation for flying and series like that rather then the $$ or the "big shiny" AC.Can you tell me if there is any point getting up there before next year? Like said previously if I need to wait it out ill probably go bak to Cairns, pour a few beers or swing a hammer for a bit, but, I would like to get flying sooner rather then later. Long story short if there is any chance I may go on a drive over Dec and try my luck. What would you recommend. Mick, gave away the real job last year and yea that has made the CX progress a ill slow but once in settled again I will be straight back into it, just this time with a much smaller wage and way more "must haves". Will definitely take you up on the inspiration before I head off again, I think we are going to try and do some gliding up there before I head so I will get in contact. BTW, how Is yours going,? How many hours have you got up now?
  8. Hey Greg where are you flying out of? I'm doing my training at YPPF
  9. Thanks for the replies! RMGWA, that does help, it's good to hear of people actually doing it and making it! Most people seem to want to tell you all the bad stories I have lookedInto both the company's listed perviously and both are on the list to visit as well as many others Greg, from what I make of it none of them pay all that well but roof over my head and a few beers on a weekend and I'm happy, tourist work would be fine, if not preferred. Whats it like living out there? I'm sure some of the scenery and flying would be spectacular.
  10. G'day all, So in as little as 2 months ill be finished my CPL/MECIR and will be about with all the other wannabies trying to get that first job. I will have around the 250hr mark with no Cessna time and no useful twin endorsement and have decided to go the charter/ joy flight route. I have been looking into it a fair bit recently and wanted to get and advice that could be about. I'm from Cairns so i would love to get work there if I could but not sure if I'm wasting my time?? Apart from that I would be happy to go remote (NT/WA) and would like any advice from the guys that have done it. Also is there anywhere/way that I could be ale to get work before the end of the next wet if I'm going to be finishing in nov? And is there anything that I can do to prepare myself better for employment? As I'm sure it's going to be quite different from a flying school. Cheers Ben
  11. Some still have radar but use procedural separation.
  12. That's good to hear Russ. I'm from Cairns and will be looking for work up that way in a couple of months!! Currently in sa. Who did you speak to there? I herd a roumer that Sally isn't there anymore?
  13. Not so much a RA issue but, I find the student straight to instructor idea a bit concerning. Seems to be the norm from what I've seen tho.
  14. "What confuses me is why should you be asked to squawk ident when flying OCTA. If flying in CTA it should be covered in your endorsement. ??????, G'day frank. We get asked to to do it nearly on a weekly basis on a busy VFR route (SUB SPR/ WRR DMW). Helped me a few times with separation from other VFR OCTA
  15. Was watching a policeman being interviewed by a reporter once, he that x number said (60% or something) of accidents had speed as a factor. Reporter jumped him straight away with " so your saying that they were speeding or that speed was a factor. Turns he didn't mean speeding but that speed was a factor. Who would have thought that.
  16. Falcon f20-5. Mach 0.88 and fl400 only because we were not cleared higher
  17. 614 kn and 75 min from wheels up to down jump seat the whole way and ac all to our self!
  18. And this is what everyone has been saying. Problem is casa don't take common sense into it. Like if you have a GS failure on finals for an ILS you are meant to switch to a LOC approach and use LOC minimas, just juggle out the jepps instead of a missed approach!
  19. Just waiting on the syllabus then will do. The ground schooling was not up to standard at all so was pretty much on my own but I've found a reference in the jepps saying that AU 303 3.2.5 of when thunderstorms or their associated turbulence or their probability is forecast sufficient fuel must be carried for an alternate I'm wondering if their using the associated turbulence bit to say that TCU needs an alternate.
  20. Yea motz I do have the kdrs and there is 4 for alternates wit TCU in the tafs and 2 wrong for fuel required with the same. We had 20 sit on the same day and we all got the same wrong. End of the day I'm just glad to have it over with.
  21. I'm pretty confident about the subject. Our ground school did a shite job of delivering the subject but I've done allot of self study away from the airport. Did taits book and right through the jepps. I'm going to try and get I contact with casa and try to see where I've gone wrong cause all of the TAF's had TCU's in them which I just regarded as a CU as did everyone else. I think maybe they wanted us to treat them as a TS.
  22. If you will need a PPL then I would recommend doing it straight out, if you think you will need a PPL at a later date I would also recommend a PPL. I've done both and my RA hours ment nothing and it cost me 18k still for my PPL so all my Ra hours cost on top of that. GA training that I received was to a much higher standard as well. Mind you if RA was to meet all the things that your after it was allot of fun for me and much cheaper.
  23. Thanks for the help guys. Passed!! Although not a very good score. Not a very nice test, and, I got every question on alternates and fuel required wrong which I don't think I got one wrong in the practice tests so not sure what went on there but everyone else also it them all wrong so at least it wasn't just me. Anyone really care about the results or just a pass? It was 75%
  24. Sitting IREX tomorrow and am after any pointers. Have gone alright in the practice exams and got 90 in the casa practice off the website but seem to have a fair issue with reading the question! Any pointers appreciated.
  25. It's a full time CPL/ATPL.
