    160 or 170 jab

Yep figured that was the case. Had a good look around at the last 100 hourly and can't find any joins seeping fuel. Doesn't worry me at all just an observation really.

    160 or 170 jab

Yep understood about the quality control issues etc but we just never had much success with avgas. After going to mogas all our leakdowns problems went away so take from that what you will. It's definately more convenient using avgas though. Where we are avgas is about 60 cents per litre dearer as well which helps offset the hassle of using mogas :)

    160 or 170 jab

We went from avgas to mogas in our 160. We were getting lots of rubbish buildup on our pistons after only a few hours from new and we were often getting crap under the exhaust valve meaning bad leak down figures. After going to mogas no more problems, good leakdowns and no more issues though it is harder to start and the cabin now smells of fuel! We run our engine at 2900 most ofthe time and have since new so we don't baby it. I won't be going back to avgas. Also on wing loading, the wing loading depends on the weight of the aircraft vs the wing area. With the 170's higher mtow the wing loading between the 160 and 170 probably isn't that different at mtow.

    160 or 170 jab

Our 160 weighs 304 kg according the the placard in the cockpit. I notice the jab web site says its 320 now with the 170 20kg heavier. At 304 kg we have 236kg useful load with the 170 getting 260kg so not a huge difference.
  5. speed_racer - not wanting to frighten you but wait til you do stalls with a bit of power on and some flap out! You'll almost always get a wing drop in that situation and you need to see it and be able to deal with it. Do it often enough and it becomes fun!
  6. Now that was well written and very funny! Oh yeah, and also true :)
  7. Surely any school operating jabs in your area would have a spare prop they could lend you? I'd be ringing around if your request fails here. The school I worked for had several spare props but we are in sa, sorry.
  8. Yeah that was really nice.
  9. Yep been riding bikes for 34 years and flying for 25 years. Wouldn't be without either!
  10. One of the guys on the motorcycle forum I frequent went through the process of finding the "best" smart charger and came up with this one - http://www.moto-tech.com.au/products/optimate-4-dual-program.html I don't have one but the guys that do rave about them.
  11. Not sure what it was called. You can definately drop in there, they have a really nice clubroom with coffee and tea facilities and Avgas if you call ahead. Loxton is another very nice spot to go if you are looking for alternatives.
  12. Hey guys this was a privately organised safari to the wentworth flyin. I assume the flyin was advertised in the magazine but as I was invited on the safari that was the only notification I can recall. Btw, the two pilots doing the formation flying both hold formation flying endorsements, please don't try it at home :)
  13. A mate and I doing some close formation
  14. Hey guys, a short video of a mate and I flying in close formation in our J160's going into the Wentworth flyin last weekend.
  15. I was asking because the Jab prop is apparently made by Bolly hence the confusion. I have a friend who bought a new jabbie wooden prop and also had his old prop restored at the same time - less than half the price and it looks/performs every bit as good as the new one. He's using the restored one while the new one is his spare.
  16. Why is it that in the magazine there is an ad for Bolly with a 2 blade prop costing $700 and something dollars but the Jabiru version is $1800? I don't get it.

    Problems

I doubt he knows about any of this - he doesn't browse these forums and he doesn't use the internet. I know though and probably others going would know I guess. I don't know whether to tell him or not. If he flies to the lower MTOW then he won't go 'cause he'll be overweight with just himself and his wife. The way I look at it is that our governing body has seen fit to allow him to continue to fly at the higher weight so he is legal and that "should" hold up in court if it came to that.

    Problems

But only at registration renewal time?? I have a friend with a CTLS and we are all going away this weekend. He'll have his aircraft loaded to close to the "current" MTOW - what happens if he has an accident? Will his insurance be void?

    Problems

The Flight Design web site states the empty weight of the CTLS is 326Kg with BRS and MTOW is 600Kg. Where do the figures of 400 something Kg MTOW come from?
  20. The negative flap setting on the CT range of aircraft makes a large difference in speed. Can't recall the exact figures but when you select the negative flap setting you can feel the aircraft accelerate - it's feels like you're adding a fair bit more power. I like it and want to try it on my 160 :)
  21. And if it only had 40 something hours on it that means the gaps were wrong from the factory presumably?
  22. Yep that's it. You treated it well didn't you:)
  23. Very cool. I bought my J160 from Wyalkatchem and used that same runway when I departed. Very nice paved strip in the middle of nowhere :)
  24. You can tilt the carb slightly to one side or the other to even out your mixtures left to right. Can't remember which way riches but a search here should find the relevant info.
  25. Hey Patrick, yep I have an iPad and OzRunways. This is mostly for those that don't want to buy an iPad. I reckon it'd do the job and for a lot less money factoring in the cheap android tablets out there.
