  1. Mine is just some silliness. I borrowed the idea from a pic I saw with a Thruster in a similar position. It made me laugh. It's what happens when boredom and Photo-chop meet! Also, I used it for my FarceBook avatar - some guys in an international aviation group started working out the improbable maths behind it! Nerds!
  2. Sounds like a good idea, P! I'm not entirely sure of that... I regularly have to reverse my work's ten tonne truck through public events, schools, retirement villages, you name it. Regardless of how big, noisy, beepy it is, people still walk behind a reversing large truck - even with guides trying to keep the area clear!
  3. Sure did! It was great. Although, we were doing about 120 kt .... if I was paying top dollar for a low level heli tour, I would want to see it a bit slower than 22o km/h! At 500 feet the scenery would wizz past before you could look at it!
  4. Thanks Linda! Full blog post with pictures and such now here.
  5. It seems mine came last week, but I only found it by accident. It turns out that my wife accidentally put it in the insulated shopping bag with the shopping, then proceeded to unload the items and put the bag away - with my mag still inside!
  6. Parafield Airport is the smaller GA airfield close to Adelaide. It's on the right side of town to head up to Balaklava. Is there a local aerodrome closer though?
  7. Congratulations! Be sure to keep us updated on the next chapter in your training!
  8. I've had the Galaxy S II for a little over a week now. Upgraded from a Samsung Omnia II - at the time it was the best implementation of WinMo 6.1, but at that stage I didn't know that Android was just around the corner - and so good! It has served me well, but is just so frustrating and limited sometimes! The difference is like night and day: Capacitive touch is wonderful! The gps unit is much better. The data radios seem to be much more reliable. The dual-core processor has not missed a beat, despite hard-core 3d apps. The Apps - Android Market!!! The screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, I've found a couple of aviation related apps.... What are the good ones I should be looking out for?
  9. Yes!!!! That would be great! Now, does anyone here know someone in the ABC?
  10. I guess it's already in the takeoff attitude, so that's one less thing the pilot has to do!
  11. You're right David! I should have also mentioned that it is only for normal approaches. Anything other than that requires a slightly different concept. However, while you are learning the conditions should be as normal as possible...
  12. However, maybe not if you find yourself flying a 747 or something! :-)
  13. Cool! You'll still talk to us when you're a helicopter captain, yeah? Best of luck for your training!
  14. Hey Glint, While learning to control the aircraft, my instructor used to tell me to "Make the centre line run between your legs..." Obviously, this would make the aircraft a bit to the right - but as was mentioned earlier, you will only be a foot or so out. Keep at it! You're not alone! I'm sure many people (including me) have grappled with this issue at some stage!
  15. You're picking inconsistencies and plot holes in a Bond movie???
  16. Thanks for reminding me, Owi! I have the same problem with my Altronics headset (purchased second hand - but in excellent condition) and the Microair M760. It's fine for intercom stuff, but the minute I press the transmit button it screams! Tried every combination of volume settings, etc. Haven't had a chance to try it in another aircraft yet.
  17. Would love to! Now all I need is an excuse to go to Perth! Hmmmm..... Wow.
