  2. Does anyone know if Sentient Software ( Air Nav) is still going? I have not used this program for a long while and they are still deducting a $63 upgrade fee from my account but I can't get into the program as it wants a new product code. Attempts to contact company have failed, phone number disconnected and no response from email.
  3. As a grade 3 student in the mid '60's, I always looked forward to opening a new box of Kellogg's cereals to find the snap together plastic model aircraft. Was given a Biggles book once for my birthday but I wanted a Matchbox car so I 'ran a way' to the local shop to buy one 'cause I was in a bad mood over getting the book over the car! Got a grilling over that.......assumed Mum would drive up the street to pick me up, I didn't know that Mum's Hillman Hunter was broken. She rang Dad to get him home early.........., ....... I had returned home by then! Never did read that or any Biggles book! Anyway I am getting side tracked..... Go back a year to grade 2 at Frenchville state school in Rocky.........I have a vivid memory of walking out of class onto the verandah and hearing a lot of noise coming from above the parade ground between the school buildings. What I saw was a Bell 47G hovering just above roof height with the pilot leaning out for a look, he was a cowboy...flannelette shirt and big hat and boots. Went back to class shouting to all to come and see! Also the same year, 1965, I remember being picked up by dad in the morning so we could go out to see the BIG Ansett sikorsky heli coming up from Brissy on the way to the Whitsundays to enter service to Hayman Is. I am sure this sparked my interest in heli's. I have owned and flown RC heli's since getting my first job and currently have large scale RC Bell 47G petrol engined model that is reserved for those special club flyin days. Booked a 1 hr trial flight in a R22 with Helicopters Brisbane once to see if the RC model experience was helpful, at the end of the session I was able to hover taxi from the western side of Archerfield back to the eastern side with no assistance from the instructor (I think he was impressed). Could never justify the expense to get to commercial licence though!
  4. Kasper, thanks for the description of your trike, wings and motors configuration. I and probably many others were not aware of this so that info was helpful in understanding your rego issues. I am not educated on HGFA rules but am wondering if you would have more success under them. Is there a reason why you want your Trike under 95:10 regs?

  6. Stab is attached to longeron with 3 hinges (per side) at LE, half chord and TE. I would need to wedge hinges and adjust stay wire lengths.
  7. Ok, a few more details, R503 tractor configuration, parasol wing, horizontal stab hinged to top longeron ( which is the zero degree datum). Photos of aircraft in level flight show elevator pretty much level with stab. I need only a fingers touch to stop the nose dropping. Aready has a ground adjustable bungee cord on the up elevator side but increasing tension has not had much effect. Option A is what I have noticed most so far.
  8. I would like to fit a elevator trim (fixed bendable alloy) to my aircraft. Elevator is a 'flat plate cross section with blunt trailing edge'. What would the best position to attach the tab for it to be most effective?

  15. Not according to my research. Very hard to find out this info, sales people in stores have not got a clue! Had a blue with a Harvey Norman sales guy, he was telling me rubbish. Even tech specs can be misleading.
  16. Last flew the Drifter in December so I could not wait to get back in. Eleven circuits and 2 steep turns later I was a satisfied man. Nice morning with some haze under CU's and only minor turbulence. Photos off Video. Wayne

  18. Hi Mike, I have a Samsung Tab A 8" with WIFI and cellular. You need the model with Cellular as the GPS is built into the chip. You don't need a sim card installed though for the GPS to work. OZRunway works well on mine. Wayne
  19. I find it hard to believe this thing will takeoff (pun intended). It appears to be aimed at a recreational market for the more adventurous persons that have done the jet skis, fast boats etc. But the price is sure to be much higher than any jet ski as it has a carbon fibre hull, big trailer will add to cost plus training too. It is not just a ground effect craft, video shows it flying higher than that, but it appears to be aimed at flying low over water. Training would have to be very comprehensive, the thing is not a gentle floater, in inexperienced hands it would be a killer flying down low. Just imagine this thing flying around the Gold Coast broadwater or on any popular calm water lake or waterway. Boat wakes, Yacht masts, Power lines, Turbulence off land etc. But then of course, look at the rules and regulations in Australia, it will never get off the ground or will be highly restricted. I don't believe it's a proper aeroplane and true pilots will look elseware for the money.

I was doing some circuits with an instructor off 07 one day with the wind socks showing a good 10kts straight down the runway but we were experiencing what felt like a tailwind on turning final and I was have some trouble keeping the correct decent profile til short final then all seemed fine. On the third circuit we noticed smoke from a backyard burn rising toward the North East as we turned final, a few seconds later the airspeed started to increase quickly and I responded by raising the nose, It then briefly looked like we were going to overshoot the aiming point before passing thought the updraft and moving into the sea breeze headwind. Crazy conditions where the two opposing air flows meet and caused the updraft on final. I think that being right beside the water of the bay caused the land and sea breezes to 'fight it' out! Wayne
  21. I remember this aircraft. Also remember an amusing story involving aircraft and the police. One of the locations he used to fly was at Beachmere, Deception Bay. I was out at Redcliffe on day when the police drove up in a hurry and approached some of the guys around the hangars, after chatting for a while they left. I later found out that a pilot flying one of the club aircraft saw a aircraft on the beach and told Flight Service. they had no record of an emergency or knowledge of this aircraft so they called the police to go and look. From memory of what was told to me, it was John and by this time he had packed his aircraft and was on the road heading home when the police roared past heading to the beach. John and his mates knew nothing about all this at that stage. After the police found nothing at Beachmere they were directed to Redcliffe where pilots in the know pointed them in the right direction. Story goes that police were starting to think they may be onto a drug running aircraft!!
  22. This incident brings back memories of a couple of incidents at Redcliffe when I was flying there in the '70's (makes me feel old ). I was on the aero club deck one arvo watching a fellow solo student commence a takeoff roll on 07, next he was spearing off to the port and coming to a quick stop in a cloud of dust just before the drain and levee bank. Instructor Roger Togolini and I drove down to render assistance. On asking what happened, student replied that after the crosswind upset his track, he over corrected then just froze until realizing he was on the dirt heading for the bank. He then just pulled back on the power and hit the brakes. No damage done that time. Another day I was just about to leave home and pick up a mate before heading out to Redcliffe for a flight in PZW, a really nice near new Piper Warrior I had booked for 10am that morning. I was about to jump in the car when my mother came out of the house to tell me that she had just heard on the radio that an aircraft had crashed at Redcliffe! I had this strange feeling...that it might be PZW. On arrival at Recliffe there was PZW sitting nose up, flat against the inside slope of the levee bank at the end of runway 07 out front of the club house! We ended up taking old faithful KOU the club 172. What happened with PZW? The hirers had been up for a local flight and the pilot decided to do a touch & go back at Redcliffe before a fullstop landing. After touch down he applied power for the go round and went to pull back on the yoke to rotate but the yoke would not move (in pitch) and by the time he had aborted the takeoff there was not enough runway left to stop before hitting the levee bank. No injuries but aircraft was written off from memory. Cause of the jammed yoke was a small alloy pressure bottle spray cleaner that rolled forward and jammed in the chain and sprocket pitch linkage under the centre console.
