  1. Ryanair in the UK tried to use them but public backlash and the regulator I believe, stopped them. I guarantee that I will never fly on an airline that uses them!
  2. Just have a look at the Air Force cadets gliding in the school holidays to find youngsters interested in flying. The trick would be to get them interested in our side of aviation. A lot (surprisingly!) of people aren’t even aware that it is possible to build ones own aeroplane.
  3. Agreed on all points. I shall be there if I can possibly do it. Missed Narromine last year but got there the year before.
  4. Preaching to the converted mate! I too was at the last Old Station fly-in and that is how they should all be.
  5. Don’t know much about the Avid but I love my 2200 Jabiru. Light, simple, cheap (relative term when it comes to aircraft) compared to others. Just look after it and it will look after you.
  6. Pretty much what I said (or meant anyway) but you still need to have people they can talk to and whilst I can understand pilots wanting to congregate and swap stories, the visitors need to be able to ask questions and not just wander around looking at empty aeroplanes. I might point out that I really am not the most sociable of people and find it difficult talking to strangers, but I do it because I really want to encourage people, especially young people, to enjoy all facets of aviation as much as I do.
  7. No argument with that, only with the difficulty in getting up close and personal with them at a young age nowadays.
  8. We need all ages and lots of them. Need to show gamers that real life Flying is better than the vicarious electronic kind and show the older ones that all ages can participate. As kids we used to cycle out to the airport and sit on the open-air balcony watching aeroplanes of all types come and go, Chipmunks, Mosquitoes, Viscount, Vanguard, Friendship and many others. We used to just ask the captains if we could have a look around their aeroplane and they were invariably happy to show us around. In this day and age it is nigh on impossible to do that so we need to find other ways of attracting new blood to aviation.
  9. Can’t disagree with you on that one. Last few fly-ins I’ve been to, all the pilots congregate together and there is no one to talk to the general public about the aeroplanes. My wife and I just put chairs under the wing, sat there and chatted to a lot of interested people. We need to encourage new people, particularly young people to get involved with aviation at all levels.
  10. Try Mick Duckt?
  11. Sorry, way off track. Just saw a picture of Kenai!
  12. Just a guess, Petersen Kenai?
  13. Surely that fast jet, no aerobatic rule doesn’t apply to the Red Arrows? By the way, I was born and grew up in Edinburgh. My first flying lessons were at Turnhouse Airport, a very different place back then 1968, to what it is now. Where are you?
  14. I saw this in one of the fb groups the other day but can’t find it again.
  15. I go along with the rule that manoeuvres must be parallel with the crowd line and not over it, but to ban land based airshows is ridiculous. We all know there is an element of risk involved, as there is when we fly our own aeroplane or get into an airliner and hope that the pilots are having a good day or even when we get into our cars, which probably have the highest risk level of our activities.
  16. I’m not attaching a location to it. I’m querying whether the statement about all airshows having to be over the sea is correct. Incredible loss of airshows and venues if correct!
  17. Surely that can’t be correct. Battle of Britain airshows, Shuttleworth Trust and as you say Duxford to mention but a few. If it is correct it is the Nanny State gone mad yet again.
  18. Don’t know offhand but it is beautiful.
  19. Taylor monoplane or Taylor Titch? Looks bloody small!
  20. Probably, I am no computer genius. I think they are bitmap?
  21. I discounted that one because of the canopy shape. Bugger!
  22. Went up just for a circuit this morning. Weird, couldn't get the bloody thing to come down. Windsocks were hanging totally limp, should have paid attention to my Skyview and changed runways. The screenshot was on downwind for 27, looked like a 10 kt headwind, hence my 45 kt final was actually 55 kt ground speed, at least that is my excuse for the crappiest landing I've done in weeks! Think my computer must be stuffed, still can't post screenshot. Go to pictures/screenshots to attach file and it says "this folder is empty' however if I get out of this and go to pictures on the desktop there are three screenshots in the file!!!! I hate bloody computers.
  23. Change mind a bit. Let Z-37 Cmelak (Had PZL in my head!)
  24. PZL Smelak? Not sure of the spelling.
