  1. I use graduated multifocals with transitions lenses. I wear them full time and have no problems with flying, driving or bright sunlight. The only problem I ever had was walking down stairs, actually have to look down, ie tilt my head, rather than just casting my eyes down.
  2. I suggest that all aviators with an interest in Toowoomba airport and in retaining it as a GA facility, take note of this property developer’s name and should the opportunity arise, make his life difficult!
  3. Not sure how you spell it, but Mjuri Tsante (does that mean” well, Thankyou?” Haven’t been in East Africa for 45yrs and never saw it written.) Anyway welcome to the madhouse, must be mad to put up with CASA!
  4. Don’t know, I’ll have to read the book. I have dual radios, so I do that anyway.
  5. Don’t know their heritage, just know they work well!
  6. Haven’t seen one of those for a long time. How many (if any) in Australia?
  7. Welcome to the group. Where are you having lessons?
  8. Just Googled it, definitely SRN6 and to Ryde on IOW. Apparently still operating, at least until recently.
  9. Thinking more about my previous post, I think the SRN4 was the car carrier across the channel, the IOW one was the smaller SRN6!
  10. Had a ‘flight’ in one from Southsea across the Solent to the Isle of Wight many years ago. Don’t remember the destination town!
  11. Point is that an R/C aircraft isn’t a toy, it is a real aircraft in miniature. It flies as does a manned one, in accordance with the laws of physics. A Dinky, Corgi or Matchbox car or aeroplane or even an Airfix kit on the other hand is a toy and no, I am not an R/C flier myself.
  12. First manned electric aircraft! A lot of R/C modellers would be quite put out by that article. Lots of electric models around and they are arguably real aircraft, just smaller.
  13. No quarrel with that, but Tesla batteries, back to grid solar etc. Still interesting but definite deviation from basic thread!
  14. Amazing how off track these threads can get!
  15. Love it!
  16. Don’t want to buy into any of this straight wing, taper wing stuff, I just remember a quote from an old pilot about the DC3. (Tapered wing) “There are three rules about stalling a DC3. Don’t stall, don’t stall and don’t stall!”
  17. Interesting discussion. We used to live to the East of Amberley airbase in Qld. We used to watch storms approaching from the West and then they would split and go North and South around us. It was suggested that this was caused by the thermal activity due to the vast expanses of concrete and also the steel hangars, hence the rising air currents split the storm in half. I am absolutely no weather expert but it sounds feasible to me.
  18. Don’t have to be crazy, but it helps!
  19. Merry Christmas and happy flying to all crazy aviators.
  20. I have two fliteline radios which I bought second hand from Jabiru, I hope I am not jinxing myself by saying so, but they work well and have integrated intercom, not sure about four place though!
  21. I have ADSB out in my CH701 as part of my Skyview system. Airservices tell me it cannot be used for navigational clearance purposes so really, is it any more use than a normal transponder?
  22. Welcome, from Warwick Qld.
  23. All levels of government in this country just get greedier. Let’s see what else we can do to rip off the populace seems to be their mantra!
